I tend to take all of the bible, except maybe just the very beginning in Genesis, literally.
It may be what you say is true. The story may be an analogy.
But I won't even speculate, except to say that if I was going to guess, I would stick closer to the story in literal way.
I have found that for most of the bible, there are clear answers to what it says.
Others, like the creation story, just make my head spin. I have heard so so many interpretations.
I think there was a reason God did not spend much time on it relative to the remainder of the bible.
So I am resigned that I will never truly discern the true explanation to some of the creation story, and leave it that.
I understand, and it is all good. Hey, I thought this was Lynn's thread. I don't think I had posted here until I responded to you! LOL. :)

What does God consider modest apparel? Or does this verse really not mean what it says like where Paul says women should not teach or usurp the authority of the man?

1 Timothy 2:9 KJV
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

You read it so literally? And the fruit was an apple or some such? The way I read it, is Adam was made fully in the image of God, and then those things which we have come to know as the feminine aspects were removed from Adam to form Eve.
Are you saying God is he/she.... hermaphrodite?

I think that depends on the culture. What we consider modest they consider immodest in the Middle East. Is a wide T-shirt immodest for a woman? In Israel it was. Those muslim men bothered us because of it. They had never seen an arm I think. One got stuck to mine literally when we were just visiting churches and synagogues and put the long sleeved thing out when we were out of the building.
Burqa's then to not offend anyone?

The issue is that a womans beauty and worth are in Christ ..not in fashion or costly items. And I have already explained the restrictions on teaching to you.

Yes and He said through Paul that widows could teach etc. It's in that link I pasted.

Exodus 20:26 Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.

People were required not to do stuff that was not modest. God didn't tell people not to look.

Just some fun facts.....

A peacock is a male bird.
It's called a peaCOCK, as in
'The cock of the walk',
being the most brightly
and ornate of the peafowl.

The female is known as a peahen,
and is less flamboyant.

The expression, 'pretty as a peacock'
actually refers to the male of the species.

Now, excuse me, but warm weather is approaching,
and I need to find my green and purple shorts. :p

Find the peacock. ;)
Males are fleshy Females are drab

Adult Horned beetle
Males have horns
Females Hornless

What's that got to do with women in ministry? I think enough texts are pasted here to show women didn't just shut up in church in the Bible. Not gonna repeat them.

Well, the very "word" does say He created us IN HIS IMAGE ...Male AND Female, He created us.
His image is not female because God is spoken of in masculine terms. Scientists have looked at the brain and can't tell if it is a female or male brain. It is how you were wired that makes you male or female.

This whole idea that men learning things
about God from women would cause them
to become effeminate is just thilly. Er, Silly.

Seahorse
male get pregnant And Female do the work

I have been to the middle east a few times, both shortly before 9/11. I went with a Palestinian man, and we/I socialized and did business with the locals. One of the wife's, in her halting English, started asking me about life in America, and about how American woman were treated. After about 3 or 4 minutes the husband abruptly grabbed her away, and snarled at me.
The next day my Palestinian friend told me she got beat up that night, and also that the man no longer wanted to do business with me.
He told me in the future, if that ever happens again, just excuse myself, go to the bathroom or something, after about the first 20 or 30 seconds.
Even then, quite a different world.

Exactly.
And what about topless beaches?
You know, where they make you
take your pants off your head!
Not that I've ever been.....
(Don't know where they are) ;) :p

Do you ever read the bible for what it says or do you always twist it to suit your made up beliefs?

We're not talking about culture, we're talking about what God considers modest apparel.

Better leave them on your head there.
Hey that's the solution for men that get bothered by how women look.

God can raise the dead, can you? How far do you extend the fact that God created man in his image? I don't see any scripture that points to God being our father/mother.

We're not talking about culture, we're talking about what God considers modest apparel.
I think the Holy Spirit can tell you that or use someone else.
Don't think He wants us to dress like they dressed in the Middle East 2000 years ago with the men in long robes because some women may lust after them when they wear denim. They lusted then too, even with those clothes.

You can too. God is Spirit. A Spirit has no gender, but Jesus is a Man. Gender is a human or animal thing.
