Do you think it a work? I am unsure where you are going with this. Faith is a gift, as I have said. Does it not follow repentance on our part? Changing our mind about God? We do not garner faith from disbelief, after all. Jesus called us to repentance. It is how He started His earthly ministry, following His baptism and temptation in the desert. Scriptures multiple times exhort us to choose. Choose this day whom you will serve, for example.

Mark 1:15 (Jesus speaking)
"The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God
has come near. Repent and believe the good news!"

And yet one is an inner (spiritual) change and the other an outward sign of that change.

1 Peter 3:21
and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also--not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

Water is a symbol here. The baptism that saves is that of the Holy Spirit
of God, the actual spiritual rebirth, for the flesh counts for nothing.

The point Paul is making is that "baptism now saves you!" That is a pointed statement that one simply cannot get around. He then says that baptism is a work of God. Please stop and think about this for a moment. When you read this same type of language from John 6:29 you understood it perfectly but, when you see the same statement made by Paul with regard to baptism it suddenly become a problem for you. "Having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead."

:28 I have a question for you you said paul you mean Peter? and John 6:29 has nothing to do with baptism it has to do with a question asked what shall we do to do the works of God

No, I meant Paul. I miss spoke in post #203. I meant Paul. The text is Col. 2:12.

If baptism saves the John would have been sufficient and Christ died for naught.

I think I know very well what your saying, you are saying that the cross of Christ is not enough and the we must do a work of the flesh in order to be saved. I'm saying that you don't understand the word Baptism. Tell me where was water when they were ​Baptized in the Holy Spirit?

Well, one notable text is Acts 8:38-39, "And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch no longer saw him, but went on his way rejoicing." Another is Acts 10": 47-48. Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.

I do not deny that water Baptism is something we should not do. But what did Phillip preach to to Ethiopian? Baptism in water? or Christ and Him Crucified?
