I've looked everywhere I could find on the site and can't find where it is explained.

Thank you.

I've looked everywhere I could find on the site and can't find where it is explained.

Thank you.

Once you get 50 posts, you gain a rep power. For every certain number of posts you make, you gain a rep power. Eventually the post number doubles so it'll take longer to get a power. Rep comments also gain you a power, and you gain rep points based on how many powers the person repping you has. For example, you'd gain 110 points if I repped you. For every year that you're here, you earn 1 rep point. In addition to getting rep points, you also gain green bars. Eleven bars seems to be the maximum number you can get.

To give a rep comment, click on the star icon at the bottom left of a person's post. You can either leave a comment, or just your name. I usually leave my name as well as a comment because most here like to thank whoever gives them rep. Right now YOU have no rep powers, so if you do rep someone, they won't gain a power. You need to get 100 rep points to get a power.

Hope this helps you. :)

It does, thanks.

Perhaps it can be explained on the website somewhere?

So if I make a lot of inane posts like this one, I'll get a rep power faster? :)

Make 14 more posts to get to 50, and you'll gain a power and/or a green bar. :) Rep isn't explained anywhere here, even the mods don't know how it works, but what I wrote earlier is what I have observed with my own powers..

OOps, ... honest question...

Is there a difference between rep powers and rep points? You used both in your explanation.

rep power i think is what you have as power rep points are what you give other people when you click on the star thing in a post. So the points bring up the power lol.

Would doing so be too self-promoting?

Lady, if you think it is worth your time and trouble (I don't suggest it is), I invite you to look through my posts and decide for yourself.

In either case, thank you for explaining it to me.

No telling us your rep point level would not be self-promoting, but it WOULD be informative. :) And you're welcome.

I meant asking you to increase my rep points.

I was unable to find anything about my rep points. At the bottom of my settings it said I still had zero power.

Thanks for the rep. :) I'm about to rep you, so my powers will bring your points up to 290. After that you'll only need 10 more points to reach your next 100 point level. :)
