Most doctors today don't believe in natural medicine - they use only drugs. Why?

There will likely be a mix of answers. Some will say doctors and pharmaceutical companies are evil and only interested in pumping people full of drugs to make money. There is probably some truth in that.
Others will say it's a conspiracy to push drugs on the sick and weak to kill them off faster.
I'm sure there are plenty of other conspiracy theories of big, evil bad guys enslaving the masses. Or killing them off. Or corporate greed. Again, there may be Some truth to some of these.
But another truth is that natural medications/therapies have to no required testing standard, so they have more freedom to make claims that have not been tested and proven and ok'd, the same way pharmaceuticals have. At least this is the case in the US.
Also most pharm meds have a faster acting affect so results are visible faster, and often times stronger. I've yet to see a natural health supplement for anxiety that works as well as Xanax, for example. So drugs often have a faster and stronger impact than natural.

@Ugly: Thank you for a balanced, well-reasoned and insightful answer. You said what I would have said, better than I would have said it.

They're coming around. When one of my doctors saw my triglyceride levels, she suggested I take Fish Oil. I told her I don't do fish pills, but do Flaxseed twice a day. She told me I needed to double up. And then my next doctor when for two statins right after telling me that stains were poison.

fish oil is good but KRILL is better, at least for me...hubby and I have tried both and we have
found the latter to be an unbelievable healthy supplement that has a great many benefits...

as we age our skin tends to dry-out and the Krill will not only make your skin moist and smooth,
but it will also put a shine on your hair and nails and the real 'bonus' is that it has proven to us
to be a wonderful asset in helping with inflammation - coupled with other anti-inflame
remedies that we have tried over the years and that have worked for us...can't say enough
about it...we learned many years ago that 'taste and texture' take a back-seat to being well
and as healthy as we can...:) anybody remember being dosed with 'cod-liver-oil or caster oil???:p
it definitely got the job done!!!

As already mentioned: Much of the "natural remedies" are sold as miracle cures with no research to back it up.
In SOME cases, it is even dangerous.

Ironically, those attacking medical companies say they do it to earn money, and fail to realize that the "natural remedy" people do it for the very same reason :=

I have GERDs. I don't do fish oil, because when I did, for the rest of the night, it tasted like we had fish for dinner again. I like fish. I don't like it every single night, especially when the taste hides what I really ate and that was delicious, even if it was salmon, (which is better tasting than cod.) lol

Because that was how they were trained to help-- diagnose, then prescribe. Some are becoming more open, yes, as some here mentioned. They would need new training to understand the perspective from natural medicine practitioners. Maybe.

So your saying doctors can make the same money prescribing a healthy diet and selling supplements?

We are not talking about a natural healthy diet, but about people selling "miracle pills" with 0,00000001 mg of something in it
Most of the time, aromatherapy, to make one example, is so diluted that there is no trace to be found of the supposed substance that is to work miracles

my doc always suggests the naturals first.

unless he knows it's more of a life or death kinda thing.

then he's gonna go for the rx because he's a good doc. :)

There are some quality supplement companies put there. And even the companies who products are a notch below still can still benefit people. May I suggest Young Living or DotTerra for essential oils. They work, I can personally attest to that, and can so dozens of people I know.
As far as making money, we all have to make a living. I don't think anyone has a issue with that. But are you okay with the chemo drugs that are reaping BILLIONS of dollars for the drug companies and doing way more harm then good? I would call that dangerous. Just because it is the standard procedure for cancer treatment does not make it less dangerous. In fact whats worse, a supplement company that produces shabby products, makes millions, and hurts practically no one in the way of their long term health, or the chemo industry, making billions, and killing millions?

Lynn,

Krill is not 'fish-oil', and does not carry the 'fishy' consequences,,,the benefits are unbelievable!

If people who should be taking medicine for serious conditions, are tricked into eating dandelion leaves (exaggerating a bit here), then maybe millions will die from that too. I am not saying we should eat all kinds of pills. I am just saying that there is a lot of muck in the alternative world too.

It depends I think. I imagine that they assume anyone who isn't educated wouldn't really have a real way to heal, though there are some natural remedies that not only take care of the symptoms but the actual core cause as well. I think it's all a matter of biases.

good post, As,

but it is usually a matter of 'dependencey'...
