BTW...............never said I did not read the OP......said I didn't bother to read the following 73 comments.......it's not like this topic is spanking brand new here is it. The OP was enough........

OP:

After carefully reading and studying the Bible, I've become convinced that God only cares about this life in that we work for him. There may be relationship and whatnot, but what really matters is that we work for him. Everything else is irrelevant, including what we may want and desire. And even then, the next life is not about our joy, our only reward is him, so who's to say we'll be joyful at all?

The highlighted is not Biblical Truth.

IF I HAVE TO get into this again........here are a FEW Scriptures to consider........

Philippians 4:19 - But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Matthew 6:31-32 - Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (Read More...)

Matthew 7:11 - If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Luke 12:24 - Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?

James 4:1-2 - From whence [come] wars and fightings among you? [come they] not hence, [even] of your lusts that war in your members? (Read More...)

Romans 5:1-21 - Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: (Read More...)

Ephesians 2:8-10 - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: (Read More...)

Job 38:41 - Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.

James 5:15 - And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Matthew 11:29-30 - Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. (Read More...)

If what we want isn't what God wants, which one do you think needs a change of heart?

The topic might not be new, but the OP is and you don't HAVE to post.

Personally would prefer if you didnt, unless you actually want to hold a conversation and not slap a bandaid on what you have quickly diagnosised as the problem.

But it's the internet..why bother with facts?

An elephant is an enormous animal but its demeanor, I thought, was gentle?
And why do you "HAVE TO GET INTO IT AGAIN?"

Isn't every person a different person?
And doesn't every person deserve the same treatment as the first person?

Oh boy, I wrote first, get a new heart and then changed it...

You are also supposed to fulfill the Ministry of Christ though...
HE told us to be faithful also, didn't HE?

Our work in this world is to love others thus not only fulfilling (my error) the Law of Christ, we should be doing a work of reconciliation, and this is a ...building up, gathering, bringing in...not tearing down, scattering and casting out.

I see you just joined.........and while I respect your comment.........give it a year or two.......and then when you see the very same argument being posted for the 1,843rd time.....leeme know whatcha think?

This Forum.......especially this Forum (the BDF) is a revolving door of rehashed topics......after awhile.....well......

and, as some of you are upset by my comments, I will leave you to yourselves, and to consider the Scriptures I posted. However, the statement in the OP that I highlighted is not Biblical Truth, and I will ever stand by that comment.

When it comes to Biblical Truth, feelings can sometimes be hurt...........Jesus stepped on more than a few toes, as did all of the Apostles.........

This verse is useful to the conversation.

You have been blessed with a good and loving family. God loves you even more than they do.

Do you know who it is who is hurting?
What biblical truth have you expressed here on this particular thread?
You did provide scripture, yes...but you did not provide the heart and in fact, you must always remember what Jesus would do...and say...and what you have done and said, does NOT sound like Jesus...

You sound discouraged...,can't use the newbie excuse with me. I have seen a lot of revolving door topics, most by the same posters.

However, you have to pray and treat each person as unique and special and loved by God because thats how He sees us.

Do not grow weary of doing good.

Perhaps a break from the, internet might help?

Elephant,

Did it ever occur to you, these "rehashed topics" are because of the very reason that this is supposed to be a Bible Discussion Forum with Christians? Did it ever occur to you that you will see these very topics ALL the time because of that, because those who are hurting are looking for healing?

Truthfully hurt people should post in the prayer forum. You find more loving kindness there amongst the prayer warriors.

The Bible discussion forum has too many wolves and sharks that circle around blood. So much so that people who spend too much time on bible discussion forum start copying their bad habits.

It's because discussing the Bible scares the enemy.

HistoryPrincess, I feel your pain and have questioned as you do....sort of. Although I've never been diagnosed with anything I've always felt lonely and disengaged from people. I thought a wife and family might end my loneliness, but now I feel just about as lonely but waaay busier. Everybody has problems and when two people get together it doesn't solve problems, it usually generates more. I love my family but now I have no freedom to make any choices without impacting the lives of others. Where I can go, what I can do, how I spend my time and money are basically chosen for the benefit of the unit. Believe me when I tell you that God is less demanding. Talk about floating through life! I've been stuck on a runaway roller coaster for years and the only way to get off is jump. The only way I have maintained my sanity is by accepting that my life is not my own and I trust the Lord. By pouring out all of my desires, dreams, expectations and hopes for this life, keeps me from being completely disappointed with the way my life has turned out. Once I was an ambitious individual who would chase success never looking back. Now I've settled for a job I hate, making less money than I could be making elsewhere, not utilizing a quarter of my talents and education....but for some reason I think this is where God wants me. My heart cries out for so much more in life and by the standards of the world I'm unsuccessful but I've never felt so close to God. It's not about me.

Hi
I'm sort of on my way out, but I just wanted to step by this thread and say:

To the OP:
I understand (at least in part) how you feel. I've struggled endless times myself.
I keep asking myself why God sits back to watch all that goes on, without intervening.
.... then I realize that if He did, He would in very many cases override our ability to do what you asked for: fulfil our desires
and dreams .... because there are many people on this earth with evil desires. ... and even those who are not by themselves evil, would have negative consequences. For instance: In my dream world I'd get paid to read... but I wouldn't be helping society by doing that, so it would be a bad desire (Especially if "everyone" decided on the same thing).

I'm not sure if I am making sense. I am just trying to say that maybe God is "distant" is that we have to try a bit on our own to not be robots / slaves, and then realize we cannot do it on our own. ... and when we realize that, he steps in?
