Paul...

colossians 3 : 5-10 "Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.[SUP] [/SUP]You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator."

ephesians 4:17-32So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.
That, however, is not the way of life you learned when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. “In your anger do not sin” : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

ephesians 5: 1-15"
Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore do not be partners with them.
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. This is why it is said:
“Wake up, sleeper,
rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise

if a person preaches that paul is the authority.....should probably notice these things THROUGHOUT his letters and not teach a verse here n there that make it sound as if theres no responsibility on the believer who is saved by Grace in order to obey and Live as a child of God....Just a thought tho. could always just tell everyone " there is no condemnation possible once you say I'm in Christ." it truly is as the scriptures repeat....time to wake up and shine thanking God with our lives as well as our words

or possibly a sample of peter??

1 peter 3:8-12 "Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. For,
“Whoever would love life
and see good days
must keep their tongue from evil
and their lips from deceitful speech.
They must turn from evil and do good;
they must seek peace and pursue it.
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."

1 peter4:1-8"
Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin. As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry. They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you. But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to human standards in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.
The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

2 peter 3: 1-12 " as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles.
Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.
Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.

nothing out of context, complete chapters really....grace , is not everything, Grace supplies power in order to act upon the righteousness we claim in Christ. don't be led the wrong direction. don't take things like this as scare tactics...its Gods word. as much as the few "grace alone" unwarranted favor...grace grace scriptures. Grace is an element, it is a new life, a new start and total empowerment with the greatest gift a human can receive, the spirit of God in our hearts. The spirit of power and righteousness and truth and all we will ever need because of Grace, True Grace is not a word or defined by unwarranted favor, it is everything a person needs to live as man never could before. Adams spirit failed and died, Jesus never Will. Have faith in all of Gods word meant for believers. Obedience is a good word, and you are well able according to scripture, the same scriptures we sometimes pick and choose from actually have their own message, truth.

none of this makes it any less true that "when we are faithless, He is faithful" or that "it does not depend on human desire or effort, but on God's mercy" or that "the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong"

it's just as easy to pick things like this out and forget that we are saved by grace.

perhaps people dwell on one more than the other because if you were to get out balance, in one direction you retain joy, but in the other you either develop despair of pride? or perhaps from a spirit of meekness and gratitude, we don't make threads boasting about how we overcame temptation all week. instead, we post about how great our Redeemer is and how wonderful He shows Himself to be towards us. it a sampling bias that may misrepresent reality: don't suppose that everyone who is thankful for mercy sits on their hands or goes around sinning willfully all week. maybe they just don't report often on their personal holiness.

give thanks in every circumstance & rejoice always - this is His will for us. apply yourself to the good works that He has prepared beforehand for you to walk in - this is His purpose for us.

possibly a short piece of James ?

James 1:22-25 "Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves, do what it says. anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at His face in a mirror, then after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what He looks like BUT the man who looks intentely into the perfect Law that gives freedom, and CONTINUES IN IT, not forgetting what he has seen BUT DOING IT : HE will be BLESSED in what He does."

really is throughout the nt as well as ot. always guard against a message that opposes obeying Gods word. Has been His will from the beginning and will be His will the day Jesus returns to gather the faithful elect. as John writes it in revelation " the saints who obey Gods commandments and hold the testimony of Jesus." God is the same, man failed, so in His Grace, He made us new, and able by the spirit of His son living in us. The same Son who teaches all we need all these same things. The same son who Lived to obey God the Father, and teaches all His followers to do the same. The will and way of God is to hear the word, and follow it. Grace made us able, understand true Grace and see the difference in todays message about grace being our god, and the truth of Grace Being an attribute of Jesus.

did I say anything like that? or did I merely post scripture that makes it very clear that obedience is taught, repentance is taught throughout the new testament? the huge issue on this place is people adding to what is actually said or posted. Grace as it is taught lacks truth and is sweeping the church setting them against obeying God. as if obeying is "falling from grace" scripture is scripture. if it offends people, it should be taken as Gods written word and if it doesn't make us feel good in our disobedience, there is a purpose it is there. The same word that says were saved, says we are to obey, to repent...all the things that are just as important as the feel good stuff. there is one judge of salvation, it is NOT me. each man will give their own account I'm clear on that because Gods word says it, and Jesus paid the fee to earn that seat.

Just posting scripture that is ignored for the sake of the fluffy gospel of grace that is flooding the world. Just scripture, I'm sure many already Know, but some may not. important stuff in these scriptures. I agree that hes made us able, hes our supply, hes prepared us the works ect.....but that doesn't mean we don't have a responsibility.

We start in the grace of Christ and we live by the grace of Christ and we will continue by the grace of Christ throughout eternity as Eph. 2:7 says.

1 Peter 1:13
[SUP]13 [/SUP] Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace being brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ
.

Acts 20:32 (NASB)
[SUP]32 [/SUP] "And now I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

2 Peter 3:18 (KJV)
[SUP]18 [/SUP] But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Ephesians 2:7 (NASB)
[SUP]7 [/SUP] so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

Hi...I love that scripture in James. It says that when we see ourselves for who we really are - do not forget yourself in Christ - if we do not continue walking in who we are in Christ - we deceive ourselves...great scripture..it is one of my favorites...thanks for reminding me of it.

You are familiar to me. Have you been on here before under a different name? ...your writing is exactly like jasonj. Do you know him?

Romans 8:1 "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."

Nothing wrong with Romans 8:1, but many deceivers try to say the part in red was not in the original letters, but that is just a lie to try to distort the Truth. The part in red is right in line with the rest of gospel message, and that is unrighteousness and ongoing sinners (those who walk after the flesh) shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Sin does not reign in a persons life if they are truly under Grace and in the Spirit, but this message is being perverted and distorted by many deceivers here in the last days.

Romans 8:1-10 (NASB)
[SUP]1 [/SUP]
Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

[SUP]2 [/SUP] For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.

[SUP]3 [/SUP] For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,

[SUP]4 [/SUP] so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

[SUP]5 [/SUP] For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

[SUP]6 [/SUP] For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,

[SUP]7 [/SUP] because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so,

[SUP]8 [/SUP] and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

[SUP]9 [/SUP] However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

[SUP]10 [/SUP] If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.

Yes, for apart from HIM...there is nothing we can do...
It is only in HIM and the TRUTH that we must REMAIN in HIM that we can do all things...by HIM who strengthens us.

I believe the issue with disobeying is when we forget that "when we are weak, than we are strong...and that HIS beauty and power is made perfect (and evident) in our weakness.

I guess what I mean to say is sometimes our flesh does get in the way and we want to actively "do" but there are times when what we do does not reflect the TRUE and HOLY RIGHTEOUSNESS of GOD...and we have to be still, trusting in HIM, knowing that HE is GOD...and that it won't be and shouldn't be by (our own) power or might, but should be and will be, by HIS SPIRIT.

Yes, anyone who thinks they don't have to put effort into living a Christian life, is going to get a wake up call on judgement day. They have no ears to hear. They have earplugs called stubbornness. Jesus says take up your cross DAILY and follow Me. We are to be willing to die for God or our brethren if needs be. How could we do that unless we grew in maturity? Even Christ sweat as blood thinking about it- that is sober minded. Even in the days of Noah He grieved knowing it was coming someday. John the baptist taught the truth boldly even though he knew he would die for it. The apostles were put in prison. Yet you think you can kick up your feet, relax, and wait for heaven?

Pray rather that HE keep us from the evil day.
Pray that you may NOT have to enter these trials.
Pray that GOD keep you from the evil one.
And pray for all and do not cease from praying.

Amen..unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it.

I noticed that there are two ways of "building the house "...our way trying "to do" the word of God with our flesh or by the life of Christ inside of us living in and through us to bear His fruit.

It seems that God does not recognize what we do in the flesh even if it is trying to "do" the word of God. Abraham created an Ishmael with his own efforts in the flesh and he wad good intentions of fulfilling the word of God to him that he would be the father of many nations.

God didn't recognize Ishmael as a son of the promise. God told Abraham "Take your son...your only son.." God does not recognize things done in the flesh. No flesh shall glory in His presence. The flesh profits nothing - only the Spirit gives life.

Weeds grow of themselves. Denying that a garden needs continual work to keep it clean eventually leads the garden to ruin.

So pray that I don't have to go through it? I have to go through it everyday. That may be the most extreme scenario, but I have to stay in that mind frame. Because if I'm really willing to die for Him, I will die also to the lesser things daily- such as getting drunk, angry rage, greed, filthy language from my lips, not using my body as a living sacrifice to God, not obeying God to go to church on Sunday to encourage others and take the Lords supper, and not considering others before myself. There are many sins I must die to, every day, and strive to become more and more like Christ.

What do you do with your brothers and sisters whom you are concerned about that they get that wake up call before the evil day?

Do you think that Job had any idea that he would have to suffer?
Didn't Job understand that the rain and the sun both fall and shine on both?

What do I do? I tell them the truth and encourage them to accept and do it before it's too late- for them or the world. When I became a Christian I didn't know I would have to suffer- whether in small ways or big ways. I knew I was on the good team and I'd have to try not to sin. I believed in God, loved Him, and wanted to obey Him. But just as a child that is physically born does not know immediately how to walk, run, and drive a car, someone who is born again does not immediately know what they will learn throughout their Christian life. But like Paul said, when I was a child I thought like a child and acted like a child, but when I became a man I put childish ways behind me. And Jesus told Peter when he was a child he had the freedom to go where he wants, but now others will lead you where you don't want to go (to his death).

( I have to go get ready for church)
