Corinthians tells us those who are in Him, have become the righteousness of God because Christ became sin for them. So do we suddenly have unrighteousness and we are no longer the righteousness of God unless we confess? I wonder if Scripture actually means we are the righteousness of God? I wonder if sanctification is us actually realizing who we are in Christ?
A lie that is so often repeated by hyper grace clones. 2 Corinthians 5:21 does not say that.

Let's bring this discussion back to earth. I believe that all accept that we are saved by grace through our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Some here (including myself) believe that once we are saved, there is nothing that can take us from the Savior who Saved us. Others believe that we can be taken from the Savior by sin in our life. I believe that they are wrong, but I will not condemn them for this belief. There is nothing to be gained from the eternal debate on this issue.

My problem with what I have read thus far is that some believe that we are don't have to seek forgiveness of our sins from God. There are two things that Jesus taught prove this wrong. When the taught us to pray, we were to pray forgive us of our sins as we forgive others. He also taught us to pray without ceasing. Then he went on to tell us that when we seek his forgiveness, he is faithful to forgive us. So, pray often, and always seek his forgiveness when we pray. There is no doubt that, when we ask, he will forgive us.
The irreconcilable problem is that hyper grace rejects both things you mentioned.

Hey BillyD. I struggled with this for a long time thinking right.. "If Jesus has died for me and took all my sin and buried it and re-created me in him then I'm a new creation right? So if I'm a new creation in Christ and receive all he is then now I'm righteous (Romans 5:19) If God has completely forgiven me and made me new then what if I don't forgive my brother ? Does God unforgive me ? Or is forgiveness now who I am because I am in Christ? Is it a command or is it fruit? Dya see what I mean ?

Also I think when we are reading scripture we really need to study the audience, the time, the cultural background to understand it in its right context. Grace777 sent me an awesome teaching on forgiving others and God will forgive you. I'd really recommend it to anyone :) Bless you xx

Personally, I do ask for forgiveness as I feel Holy Spirit lead me into greater understanding.

But telling they have to do something, takes away from the relationship.

If I told you, that you have to forgive your wife, and then you did, what would it mean to her? What would it mean to you? I personally believe that the goodness and kindness of God causes true repentance from the heart. And we get beyond this "I have to" stuff and get into the really good stuff labeled "I get to"...

What's funny to me is that I DO lead people through forgiveness even believers. And I lead them to giving up lies and receiving truth (renewing the mind). But I still think 1 John 1 confessing is talking about needing Christ. But you're right the other Scriptures where Jesus gave us a model to pray, I don't believe the only thing we pray is the Lord's Prayer. But that's another topic. And I think prayer is both talking to and listening to God. Not just 1 way communication. It's a relationship. And I hear His voice.

But our Father is looking for those who will worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.

Worship isn't a religious act, but one that comes from the heart. And when we know we are truly free. That's when I believe we can truly have a change of mind from the heart. And we get into who we really are in Christ. And who He is in us. And it is joyful obedience not like the older son who felt like he had to and was angry at the other brother for his freedom.

I believe it's very telling what the Father said to the older son, my son, everything I have is yours. He could have had a party any time, he could have slain the goat anytime, but he didn't understand his inheritance, so he worked and had no joy in the Father's house. This I believe is religion.

And the younger kid didn't know how to enjoy his Father either, so he sold it all. This is rebellion. Both are two sides of the same coin not understanding the goodness of God and what He has given us. And done for us.

I believe the Scripture that shows us this clearly is written by that old Saint Peter.

2 Peter 1:4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.

Not all desire is sinful, but illegal desire is. If we don't understand the promises of God, the goodness of God, how can we be partakers of the divine nature He has joined us into? If we don't believe what He has done for us, we shall try to do it for ourselves without Him and this is the essence of pride. To think that we could ever do anything to win His love. Because He showed His love so fiercely by giving His Son on a bloody wooden cross.

Romans 8:32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

Paul understood the goodness of God. I pray we do as well. Because I believe that is the path of true repentance. Repentance that comes from being a son not a slave. Paul made himself a slave yes, but God made him a son. And He did the same for us. Our bonds now are bonds of love. Not begrudgingly but lovingly. And He deserves it, not just our work, but also our heart. And that is a battle I believe in fighting for.

Thank you for your post.

Just one simple question remains. We know that God has forgiven us. How often are we to ask him to forgive us?

Not sure what he sent you, but what's interesting is that Jesus said forgive your brother 7x77.

Ever wonder where that came from? I did. I also just figured 7 was perfect, so 7x77 was to eternally forgive which it could still mean that as well.

BUT...

Daniel 9:24-

Jews were given 70 WEEKS. 70x7 to get their stuff together. They didn't which is when the temple fell in 70AD.

So taken that way Jesus is saying just as I have forgiven you Jerusalem, you shall forgive your brothers.

Did Peter and Paul had no idea of what Jesus said there in Matt 7 before the Cross when they preached the gospel of the grace of Christ after Jesus' resurrection?

Look at the word-for-word accounts of the true gospel of Christ being preached and no where does it say to "forgive first or you will not be forgiven" I'll give you the exact scripture references . Peter - Acts 10:43 and Paul Acts 13:38

Have you ever heard Billy Graham say " Forgive people first before you come to receive Christ's forgiveness"?..of course not..it is anti-the gospel.

It is extremely important to read all scriptures in their context - even the words of Jesus. I understand this conflicts with some of our religious beliefs passed on by mad-made traditions which nullify the grace of God.

The Cross of Christ changed from living according to law and we are now in the grace of Christ for forgiveness. It is not based on us. We forgive because we are forgiven - it's in our nature now.

No where does Paul say that we need to forgive others in order to be forgiven - he says the complete opposite - that we are already now forgiven in Christ.

This short video will show you the context of those scriptures in Matthew 7 and do we really need to forgive in the New Covenant in order for God to forgive us now that Jesus blood was shed for all sin.

If you believe in your heart and CONFESS Him as Lord you shall BE saved. Written by Paul in Romans.

So actually yes it does say that exactly elsewhere.

Not are saved. Or keep your salvation. Or what ever else you're teaching here.

John wrote so they wouldn't sin. Why? Because the HOPE of glory purifies as we are pure. But before he could write that they shouldn't sin because they were born of God, He had to first deal with those who said we don't have sin. I.E. Need Christ.

Which Paul confirms in Romans 6. I am free from the law of sin. It has no power over me.

And from God's view. You're in Christ. And He said He is no longer counting your trespasses and will remember your sins no more.

Oh and if you think the way you are judging people's heart and their intentions is Christlike, I wonder about you.
Please note, confessing Jesus as Lord, isn't confessing sins.
John was writing to believers, and you know very well that people will sin, so that's why John wrote 1 Jn 1: 9.

God no longer counts our confessed repented sins against us.
I'm not judging people, I'm just telling you what the Bible says.

Thank you. Might become (subjunctive), not have become (indicative).

Angela has corrected you concerning the Greek on this subject a few times.

The usage of the Greek word "hina" which means "so that" is before "we might become" It is a statement of fact. Jesus became sin so that we could become the righteousness of God in Him.

2 Corinthians 5:21 (NASB)
[SUP]21 [/SUP] He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

The subjunctive in Greek in some cases is used because a "dependent clause" has been made. In this case - "Jesus became sin" -
this is the dependent clause.

Here is an example =
"I went to the bank so that I may give you some money." - going to the bank was the "dependent clause"

Here is the resource for this: ( I realize this conflicts with some religious beliefs )

The subjunctive mood is used in both independent (main) and depended (subordinate) clauses

Or you might be partakers of God's divine nature, but we know some Christians aren't partaking if God's divine nature.

I wondered about that. So it is potential future? (You are welcome.)
Subjunctive mood expresses possibility, but not certainty. Indicative mood expresses certainty. The verb in 2 Corinthians 5:21 is in the subjunctive mood.

I think when we are resurrected we will be the righteousness of GOD in Christ. Now we have imputed righteousness and the indwelling righteousness of Christ's spirit.

I can give you guys what the scriptures say about righteousness and believers that are "in Christ" now. Everyone can believe what they want too.

The understanding of the new creation in Christ and the new identity of the believer is paramount to living the true Christian life.

Here it says our spirit ( the inner person that is a new creation in Christ ) is alive because of righteousness that it is it.

Romans 8:10 (NASB)
[SUP]10 [/SUP] If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin,yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.

Here righteousness is a gift - you don't earn it.

Romans 5:17 (KJV)
[SUP]17 [/SUP] For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

We have grace reigning in our lives because of righteousness in us.

Romans 5:21 (KJV)
[SUP]21[/SUP] That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Here righteousness comes by faith.

Romans 9:30 (KJV)
[SUP]30 [/SUP] What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.

Here when we believe - we are righteousness.

Romans 10:10 (KJV)
[SUP]10 [/SUP] For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

We are in the kingdom of God.

Romans 14:17 (KJV)
[SUP]17[/SUP] For the kingdom of God ( Jesus said that the kingdom of God is within you..He might know a thing or two ) is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Here it says that God made us righteousness in Christ.

1 Corinthians 1:30 (KJV)
[SUP]30 [/SUP] But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

This says we have become the righteousness of Christ ( this is called a dependent clause in the greek - it is determined as fulfilled because Christ became sin )

2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)
[SUP]21 [/SUP] For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Believers are called righteousness.

2 Corinthians 6:14 (KJV)
[SUP]14 [/SUP] Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

Here it is saying that "righteousness comes by Christ".

Galatians 2:21 (NASB)
[SUP]21 [/SUP] "I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly."

Here we have the breastplate of righteousness - which is the armor of God that we are to be strong in.

Ephesians 6:14 (KJV)
[SUP]14 [/SUP] Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, andhaving on the breastplate of righteousness;

This talks about the new man in Christ - the new creation.

Ephesians 4:24 (NASB)
[SUP]24 [/SUP] and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

Ok..that's enough..there are tons more....

Here is one more from the OT - Isaiah 54: 17 of the Lord telling what the believer would have because of what Christ did in Isaiah 53 when He died on the cross to take away our sin and make us righteous in Him.

Isaiah 54:17

[SUP]17 [/SUP] "No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me," declares the LORD.

Folks we have a great salvation in our Lord Jesus Christ!

Ephesians 3:8 (NASB)
[SUP]8 [/SUP] To me, the very least of all saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches of Christ,

Thank you. Might become (subjunctive), not have become (indicative).
Under this interpretation...

We "might" become children of God. So we are not really children of God?

Under this interpretation...

We have a real issue because it appears we didn't really get brought to God.

New International Version
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.

New Living Translation
Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.

English Standard Version
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,

Berean Study Bible
For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body, but made alive in the spirit,

Berean Literal Bible
because Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, so that He might bring you to God, having been put to death indeed in the flesh, but having been made alive in the spirit,

New American Standard Bible
For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;

But it's easy to understand, what Paul is saying in 2 Co 5 is that Jesus being made sin so that we "might" be the righteousness of God is a statement saying, if we shall receive Him.

We know this because the first verse right BEFORE it says, "be reconciled to God".

Romans 1:17 For the gospel reveals the righteousness of God that comes by faith from start to finish, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."

Interesting, this Scripture parallels the "righteousness of God" and then labeling US as righteous.

And there ain't no "might" about it in this one.

oh my sweet, precious Lord,

I intercede and pray in Your Holy Name that you will enlighten those who think that they have an inside advantage
of Your Truth as they think that they PERCIEVE IT, above ALL of their fellows...

we Love them Lord, and pray that You will open and release the bondage in their hearts, minds and spirits,
that satan has so devilishly laid upon their hearts and so deceptively deceived them...

I agree...there is no "might" about it as pertains to Christ becoming our righteousness and that we are one with Him now.

On post #315 there are 12 scriptures that talk about righteousness and the believer in Christ and there is no "might" attached to those verses.

Now - if we had to do our own righteousness or "maintain" this righteousness then there is a definite need for "might" because then it would depend on us - but that is not even remotely close to the gospel of the grace of Christ.

We are saved by grace through faith and it is a gift of God ..NOT of works. Eph 2:8-10.
