The notion that beauty is in the eye of the beholder is more than just a colloquialism. It's scientific fact. Prior to the information from your eyes reaching your occipital lobe it passes through the limbic system which is the emotional center of the brain. In doing so it becomes biased based upon how you feel about what you're looking at. Things you like will appear more pleasant to you than they actually are and the opposite holds true for things you dislike.
