There was a group of them in scripture, they were called pharisee.. The jews had a massive problem with this self righteosness. Saddly, the church has the same issue, and has had it for 2000 years now.

True...and it is sad too as you say!

There were other groups too...the Sadducees and the scribes...the "scribes" were equivalent to our modern day theologians - they studied the scriptures and wrote commentaries on them and transcribed them - much like Greek scholars today.

Who were the scribes that often argued with Jesus?

The study of scriptures without the revelation of the Holy Spirit is basically left with studying a language and each Greek scholar puts their own "application" onto the scriptures in some cases.

The "scribes" know the scriptures but didn't really know "Jesus" who the scriptures are supposed to lead us to find Him and with Christ comes the real life.

John 5:39-40 (NASB)

[SUP]39 [/SUP]
"You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me;

[SUP]40 [/SUP] and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.

You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.
Rom 14:10

I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself.
My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me.
Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God.
1 Cor 4:3-5

"Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”
John 7:24

You are judging by appearances. If anyone is confident that they belong to Christ, they should consider again that we belong to Christ just as much as they do.
2 Cor 10:7

I was adding this on to my post but ran out of time as I wanted to make sure what I was really saying is understood.

I thank God for Greek scholars and I read them quite a bit in my studying. I always ask the Father to reveal Jesus to me in whoever is teaching as I know without the Holy Spirit illuminating the scriptures we are left with our own humanistic natural reasoning.

Our faith is simple.

We are called to walk in righteousness.
We are called to help our brothers and sisters if they fall into sin.
We know without the Holy Spirit working powerfully in our hearts this is impossible.

You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
Rom 6:18

Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.
Gal 6:1

For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.
1 John 5:4

We also know many will claim to know Christ and excuse failure for many reasons, but the
proof of their gospel is in their behaviour. If they preach failure in sin is not a problem,
just get used to sinning daily, hourly, that is the Christian walk, they do not preach from Christ.

If they oppose righteousness with words that it is satanic, they are from the evil one.

No words I can come up with or would even want to come up with can even begin to unravel what you have weaved here in your post Angela. I'm very sorry you feel this way about those of us who see grace differently than you.
Yeah. It almost leaves you speechless...and it leaves you wondering if that was an odd Freudian Slip in the last paragraph...
I know it doesn't disturb any of you to be called a heretic and that you just rejoice all the more in the wonderful news of Gods grace to us through Christ, our Lamb.

Do you know, my reading this morning drove all this home, what happens here, though I'm not sure anyone else will see it.
Keep in the back of your mind Cain and Abel while you think of the verses I give, because they tie into it as Cain was jealous of what his brother was doing, which was pleasing to God.

It's in James. He said that quarrels and fights were caused by evil desires that battled inside of them. They didn't have what they wanted, and seeing their brothers who did have what they wanted, and that they couldn't get it, their jealousy caused them to fight and wage war to take from their brothers what they wanted.

Do you see? It's what happens here. Cain was jealous that his brother got the approval of God through his faith. So he made an offering too, to try to obtain Gods approval. And when he did not obtain it, he decided to kill his brother, to take from his brother what he couldn't seem to have...

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
Eph 4:14-16

Now you can take the above teaching and twist it to mean people cannot tell the difference
between good and evil but this is not what they are talking about.

And as far as anger is concerned, Jesus is addressing anger against believers.

In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,
Eph 4:26

Anger focused on an individual is where the danger lies.

Was Jesus ever angry?

"Surely you have seen this before.."

I am not to judge other believers and their motivations. I am called to forgive and forget,
to look for the best in others and walk on in love.

Now for those who do not know the Lord, I am here just to show them love and support them
in their weakness. I literally do not care why they are doing something, just that I have the
opportunity to share and praise the Lord.

All this article was doing is condemnation, and not speaking from the place of victory and love.
I have much to say about this but I have to stop here and ask my brothers and sisters - do you think it would profit him if I do? I mean, I have a LOT to say in reply, but I don't know if I should just stop and leave it to God, so I am asking you guys. On the one hand, I see some improvement, as I'm sure you all do too, from months ago - and I see that he speaks rashly but then begins to be nudged slightly from the worlds wisdom to the wisdom of God through the verses spoken. I guess I've answered my own question...? Would like your opinion here, guys.

Are you sure?
Love always hopes...
:)
Many of us have been responding for over 8 months and there is no change. I would say follow the Holy Spirit within you. Let the peace of God guide you.

Most of us are at the Romans 16:17 stage. But it's up to you as the Lord can be leading you differently...........:).

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
James 1:19-21

But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
James 1:25

If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right.
James 2:8

Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful.
James 2:12-13

You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?
James 2:20

As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
James 2:26

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.
James 3:13

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.
James 3:17

Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
James 4:8-10

Thank you for this Stunnedbygrace, what you have stated helps me understand A LOT of different things about people in my own life as well!

The ultimate tragedy is that we have nothing that they cannot have too!

It was Abel's faith that pleased God because his offering showed he believed in the way of salvation...the Lamb!!

only people that are interested in learning or even thinking about different view points will be helped. those who think they know everything, have it all together, will not learn anything. humble hearts are open to listening. proud hearts just want to talk, tell you how much they know.

And if that bothers you, I would suggest that you read the entire Bible from cover to cover again, or for the first time, to look for the patterns of sin, the patterns of repentance and confession of sins, and the amazing grace of God which is in the entire Bible, along with Jesus Christ our Saviour (who saves us from our sins) - from Genesis to Revelation.

As for holiness, and growing in it, it cannot be done without repentance from sin and turning from God. And then confession of sin to God and others. Anything else is again a lie!
let' see Angela

what bothers me...hmmmm

even though I have expressed it numerous times, I am bothered by the flat out denial of yourself and others here who go on and on and on about hyper grace even though no one here fits the description you have gone to so much trouble to provide

grace is not about continuing in sin and no one has ever said that it is on this site

this entire hyper grace nonsense was introduced some months back, the best I can figure, and there has been no let up

your language is hateful; you provide NO PROOF of anyone here living in continuing sin...EVERYONE denies that claim and yet now you are creating posts from a supposed advantage of studying Greek

I have no idea why you have suddenly decided you are on some imaginary side

the only side in any of this, with regards to grace, is very simply what scripture states

the rest, is just an attack from a position of personal opinion as far as I am concerned, and I 'repent' in the sense you seem to use it, every single day of my life

I will never ever become perfect in this life

the Holy Spirit is God's and He lives inside of me

your continued attack is something, I think, that is unsettled inside of you and has no real bearing on believers here

no amount of Bible study in any language is going to make up for the Holy Spirit. be careful not to grieve HIM

So true!

I can boldly say my knowledge on abounding grace ultimately came from God, grace teachers may have pointed me in the right direction however it was God that rewarded my faith and belief in that truth with His love, confirming in my spirit through His Holy Spirit that the divine influence of grace is real and continual.

I have to concur it does feel very personal and that does not help the discussion.
Having been attacked on occasion for putting a capital on Grace, silliness really, I almost prefer being called a heretic at least it is a direct assault.

Thank you Lauren, best to get it out in the open and then let us hope we can move on.

God is more then able to correct my wrong understanding, and He has done it many times, point it out to me using scripture once and then let me decide, this constant attack is not necessary.

There is only one truth but unfortunately sometimes as G777 says we have to agree to disagree, since we live in human frailty still.
