By career, I am an Occupational Safety and Health Specialist. I have to keep current on how to operate certain monitoring instruments for air quality, noise, etc. I also keep current in my certifications to inspect Asbestos Abatement areas as well as read the microscope slides for air sampling of those spaces.

By schooling, I am trying to finish up a PhD in Industrial and Agricultural Technology. I'm focusing in Mathematics and am working on a prototype (theoretical) model for storing data in a holographic format, so I am doing a lot of Fractal Geometry and reading what others have done in Fractal Geometry to see where I can jump off their work to my own.
Fractuals are great :)

I like them. So far, my most favorite Mathematics topic to date. There is an elegance in them that can be coaxed out of very complex equations, and the possibilities for application are really only limited by our primitive technologies at this current time.

It's really the opposite -- the equations for these are actually very simple, and elegant, and the complexity that arises out of them, we call "chaos" -- but when we present the results of millions of iterations of some of this 'chaos' in a certain way, we find an incredible amount of elegant order, with a complexity that we can scarcely fathom, which is beautiful, and a profound comment on the nature of the universe and the great divide between how man thinks and comprehends, and how God does.

I'm no mathematician, so to me, a person who had to learn about Fractals by teaching himself, they are quite complex. We see them from opposite views.

Between the cooking, the cleaning, the help bathing and going to the bathroom, the errands I have to run, the yard work to do...all in addition to keep current in my studies at school and keep my career certifications up to date, cooking feels more like a burden than a blessing. It hurts me to say that, but it's how I feel. I'm a loner, and having someone rely on me 24/7 for everything is a very uncomfortable position for me to be in. I wish my parents would have had other kids so there would be siblings to share the burden, but I know my parents resented having me enough that they didn't want to have more. This is just my situation and what I must face each day.
Oh wow my heart goes out to you. I had to take care of my father too. I had help from my mom. I don't know how you can possibly do it alone. I wish I had some sort of advice, but I'm sure you've looked into getting help already and I know it's not cheap. I know the government in my state (california) will provide free help if your income is low enough but the income limit is pretty low. I hope you can get help somehow. God bless.

That sounds very interesting. Is your prototype like an algorithm on paper, or is it a physical device?

If you don't mind, and if you have the time, and if you are so inclined, I would enjoy reading a paragraph or two in a PM about how fractal geometry relates to storing data holographically.

I assume you are going to that university near you?

Purely hypothetical. It's just a model on paper. An idea run amuck, but my committee thought it worthy of doing a research study, so here I am, and hopefully it gets me a PhD so I can say I am done with higher education. I'm not doing my program through an Iowa University. I was done with ISU back in 2004 and I swore never again.

I'll pull a couple paragraphs for you this weekend and you can read what I am proposing.

Each day I pick the things that are the most important to take care of (my Fathers immediate needs), and then I play a constant game of catch-up with the rest. I can't get every thing done every day, so I have to pick and choose. If I am really lucky, I can squeeze an hour or two late at night to peruse a journal article or two while my computer hums away grinding iterations. Some days I can get the yard work done, some days not and I have to work like a sled dog when I get the opportunity to catch back up. Overall, it's exhausting and I've been driven to tears from the stress more than a few times.

I hope this is something you are open to pursuing as a career because if you can convert it to physical technology, you might have a groundbreaking career ahead of you.

I recently read how research is going on in using a crystalline matrix for memory storage. Using UV (or higher freq) lasers may allow for greatest data density.

I also wonder if one might be able to use manufactured molecular level devices to store data bits. Of course, how to maintain them in a 3 dimensional structure is beyond me.

... unless one might grow them within a crystalline matrix???

Hmmm.
