Personally, I believe that side hugs aren't real hugs. I understand the reasoning behind men and women not giving each other "full" hugs, but isn't there a point in your relationship where you both feel comfortable enough to hug each other normally? For instance, I have known my best friend Cassidy for 14 years. We've grown up together, but she still gives me side hugs. At some point, I feel like hugging someone goes beyond sexual concerns, and it is simply a sign of friendship and closeness. I have always been a hugger, and I always feel that side hugs are awkward. Thoughts?
