[TD="colspan: 3, align: left"] When I was a teenager, I heard preachers saying this: “Jesus is the light of the world. So don’t think for one moment that you can do things behind His back. His light will expose all the bad things that you have done!”

So I was afraid to come near God, fearing that His glorious light would show up my faults, weaknesses and shame.
But is this what “the light of the world” does?

The truth is found in the context of the verse. Jesus declared that He was the light of the world right after He had told the woman caught in the act of adultery, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?”

When she said, “No one, Lord”, He said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” Then, the Bible tells us that “Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world…’” (John 8:10–12)

How wonderful it is to know that when Jesus said, “I am the light of the world,” His light was not to show up the woman’s sin because He had just told her that He did not condemn her.

This tells us that we don’t have to be fearful when we come into God’s presence. He is not there waiting to punish us for our mistakes and failures. His light is not for exposing our sins and shame, or for condemning us. No, His glorious light is for showing us how perfectly His Son’s blood has washed away our sins! That is why Jesus could tell the woman that He did not condemn her—because He would be condemned for her sin as well as ours at the cross.

Beloved, Jesus’ light unveils the truth that our sins have been completely removed. It reveals how perfect and spotless we are because of Christ’s perfect work at the cross. When you know this, you can go boldly into God’s presence, knowing that you have the light of life that gives you grace and hope!

Over the years I've come to see the truth of this interpretation of Jesus being the Light of the world. I used to be more of a negative Nellie too., always considering how God is more aware of my failings than He was of any right standing I may have.

Now a days I see how positive the Lord is about us. He loves us and actually instructs us to see ourselves IN Him and not in our own righteousness (because without Him, we have none) In Him we have His righteousness and can boldly go to the Father.

How we see ourselves will determine how well we are able to freely go to the throne of grace to receive help in time of need. I've found that the freedom to come is only found in my identity in Christ. believing that IN Christ I have all I need. Without Him I have nothing.

And so comes to mind the other truth about when we lose our own life., we will find it In His. This means we are to be daily looking to Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith. The Word of God all ties together in so many ways unlike any other book I've ever read. It always points to Jesus. And it always points me to see Jesus.

[for me anyway] the Jesus I know does not teach that we do not have to repent when we sin, rather even the adulteress woman He told her to repent saying "go and sin no more" which is exactly what it means to repent; as for by Him telling her before this that He does not condemn her, is our example that He shall be merciful and give the person their chance to repent. As for us repenting, we must repent when we sin for the remission (passing over) of our sins; which by the way is exactly what Christ told His disciples should be preached in His Name among all nations. As for the teaching of a no cost faith that nothing is required of us, for me such is another Jesus, and another spirit, and another gospel; it is not the Jesus and the Spirit and the Gospel that I know. A penitent sinner shall repent and own their sin when they sin, but an impenitent sinner will not own their sin when they sin. Beside these, the first thing that the Lord Jesus Christ commanded when He began His ministry is to "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand": and at no time does He say that we only need to repent once, and after that nothing is required off us any further. Again for me anyway, if we do not repent for our sins, then our sins are left untouched.

His light was not to show up the woman’s sin because He had just told her that He did not condemn her.

False, the Light reproves the darkness=sinful behavior.

[h=1]John 3:17-21[/h] [SUP]17 [/SUP]For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
[SUP]18 [/SUP]He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
[SUP]19 [/SUP]And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

[SUP]20 [/SUP]For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

[SUP]21 [/SUP]But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

When I first heard the Gospel I did repent with tears of remorse and sorrow with much guilt and need of getting rid of that guilt and shame of my sins and received forgiveness and Jesus Christ as my Savior.

But after that I learned over the years that my sins were all forgiven as far as the east is from the west. That Jesus was my Advocate and because He gave me His righteousness I can come boldly to the throne of grace and find help in time of need. Help to trust in the Lord with all my heart and to lean not unto my own understanding. To acknowledge Him in all my ways and found that He did direct my daily path.

Repentance I've since learned for the believer is changing of my mind from wrong thinking to right thinking by the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. This does not mean I'm crying and feeling sad when I'm learning. It is often finding out I was going one way and needed to turn and go another. So., I repented of my old way of thinking and my mind is becoming renewed in the truth. The Bible says we are to be renewed in the Spirit of our minds Eph.4:23

God repented many times but it was not repenting for any sin He ever did., God can't sin. There is another definition of Biblical repentance that involves a change of mind.

Salvation did not cost me anything., but it cost Jesus His life and that is what I recognize now. He gave me eternal life as a gift. I did not deserve it nor could I do anything to be worthy of it. Eph.2:8-9 says it's by grace we have been saved through faith., and that is not of ourselves it is a gift of God NOT of our works lest any man should or could boast. We are His workmanship created IN Christ Jesus UNTO good works. So again it's His work not mine. Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe., sin had left a crimson stain...He washed it white as snow.

My sins are all forgiven as far as the east is from the west so far has He gotten rid of them and remembers them no more. Jesus took the sin of Adam that all man kind got as soon as they were born.
Adam's sin was imputed unto us and we all are sinners by birth.

When Jesus came and I received the gift He offered of eternal life that is when Jesus righteousness was imputed to me and I was no longer found in Adam. No more seen as a sinner. Now a saint a daughter and because of Jesus "in the beloved".

I'm a new covenant believer no longer under condemnation because I have Jesus gift of salvation and His righteous standing. The new has come the old is gone.

need to get to get going. Hope you will take time to find out what "imputation" means. Blessings!

From the OP---->>>
His light is not for exposing our sins and shame, or for condemning us.

This false teaching that is being promoted in these forums is from the false teacher Joseph Prince---->>>>>

Many followers of Joseph Prince and the “Hyper grace” movement say the Holy Spirit does not reprove or convict them of sin. But is this notion based on scripture? I will show by scripture how this teaching is false, and is also very dangerous because it can cause people to harden their hearts to the conviction of the Holy Spirit, the law and commandments, and also the words of God spoken by Jesus, which are Spirit.

First let’s look at a verse in question, which many say is not directed to them being believers, but only to unbelievers who are of the world. Clearly Jesus is talking to his disciples in John 16:8, who were to receive the Holy Spirit, who would in turn reprove the world of sin by their preaching Jesus’ words. We know the Holy Spirit is not given to unbelievers because Jesus said the world cannot receive the Spirit of Truth in John 14:17 “Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”

So in fact the Holy Spirit is sent dwell in believers, and by Him the world is reproved of sin. But does the Holy Spirit reprove believers of sin? Well let’s first look at the word reprove in John 16:8….

And [SUP]G2532[/SUP] when he is come, [SUP]G2064[/SUP] he [SUP]G1565[/SUP] will reprove [SUP]G1651[/SUP] the world [SUP]G2889[/SUP] of [SUP]G4012[/SUP] sin, [SUP]G266[/SUP] and [SUP]G2532[/SUP] of [SUP]G4012[/SUP] righteousness, [SUP]G1343[/SUP] and [SUP]G2532[/SUP] of [SUP]G4012[/SUP] judgment: [SUP]G2920[/SUP]

The KJV translates Strongs G1651 in the following manner:
reprove (6x), rebuke (5x), convince (4x), tell (one's) fault (1x), convict (1x).

Bible usage also shows….by conviction to bring to the light, to expose.

The above words “to bring to light” is interesting because God’s Living Word Jesus Christ is also known as the Light of the world. But let’s first look at a few more verses where this word reprove G1651 is used.

Reproving
a brother of sin…

“Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell [SUP]G1651[/SUP] him his fault [SUP]G1651[/SUP] between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.” (Mat 18:15)

John reproves Herod of sin by the Spirit….
“But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved [SUP]G1651[/SUP] by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,” (Luke 3:9)

The Light of Gods words reprove a dark world…
“For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. [SUP]G1651[/SUP]” (John 3:20)

Being convicted in their conscience after hearing God’s words, which are light…

“And they which heard it, being convicted [SUP]G1651[/SUP] by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.”(John 8:9)

Reproving the darkness…

“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove [SUP]G1651[/SUP] them.” (Eph 5:11)
“But all things that are reproved [SUP]G1651[/SUP] are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.” (Eph 5:13)

“Them that sin rebuke [SUP]G1651[/SUP] before all, that others also may fear.” (1 Tim. 5:20)
“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, [SUP]G1651[/SUP] rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” (2 Tim 4:2)

“Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince [SUP]G1651[/SUP] the gainsayers.” (Tit 1:9)
“This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke [SUP]G1651[/SUP] them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;” (Tit 1:13)
“These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke [SUP]G1651[/SUP] with all authority. Let no man despise thee.” (Tit 2:15)

The law also reproves….
“But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced [SUP]G1651[/SUP] of the law as transgressors.” (Jas 2:9)

And the Lord also reproves believers ……

“And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked [SUP]G1651[/SUP] of him:” (Heb 12:5)
“As many as I love, I rebuke [SUP]G1651[/SUP] and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.” (Rev. 3:9)

Now going back to this concept of how the Light reproves the darkness = sinful behavior

God is Light ….. 1 John 1:5 God’s Word is Light…. John 8:12

God’s laws and commandments are light….Proverbs 6:23

Jesus disciples who have Christ in them are light….Matthew 5:14

And the gospel message is also light….2 Corinthians 4:4

By the above things that are Light, these all will reprove the world, either believers or unbelievers of its darkness. And if any man speaks evil of the Light, or speaks contrary to and even opposes the Light of the Truth, he is still in darkness. Beware of those who speak contrary to the Light, and do not believe the Light is given to reprove (G1651) the darkness that is in them and in the world.:)

Here is from the horse's mouth what exactly he says about sinning. Look at the 1:10 mark and you will see that he is telling people that are living in adultery to repent.

Some people are just so full of malice and hatred that they have become blind to some things.

The word " convict/reprove/convince/expose" in question has many meanings attached to it as well.

It is only used 1 time in KJV as "convict"....it is used more often with the word "to reprove/rebuke/convince"...
the word needs to be looked at in the "context" that it is used...

It is a revealing of things.....to the world the Holy Spirit reveals/convinces/expose their sin of unbelief in Jesus..

To
the believer He reveals/convinces/expose that they are the righteousness of Christ because He went to the Father to stand as an Advocate.

Pay attention to the world ( unbelievers ) and "you" ( believers - remember Jesus was talking to His disciples at the time. ) Remember to always look at who is being spoken to when looking at scripture.

John 16:8-10 (NASB)
[SUP]8 [/SUP] "And He, when He comes, will convict the world ( unbelievers ) concerning sin and righteousness and judgment;

[SUP]9 [/SUP] concerning sin, because they ( unbelievers ) do not believe in Me;

[SUP]10 [/SUP] and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you ( believers ) no longer see Me;

1 John 2:1-2 (NASB)
[SUP]1 [/SUP] My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;

[SUP]2 [/SUP] and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.

Here are a few examples of the same exact word used in scripture
...as one can clearly see..this word has many uses depending on the context

1 Corinthians 14:24 (KJV)
[SUP]24 [/SUP] But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:

Titus 1:9 (KJV)
[SUP]9 [/SUP] Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

Matthew 18:15 (KJV)
[SUP]15 [/SUP] Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

John 8:46 (KJV)
[SUP]46 [/SUP] Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

English Words used in KJV: reprove 6
rebuke 5
convince 4
tell (one's) fault 1
convict 1
[Total Count: 17]

Strong's Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.

Just to keep the slander down to a minimum - here is another take on things.

Here is another take on does the Holy Spirit convict/convince/expose...if so...how and when and what is being exposed or what is being "revealed"?

Does He "reveal" to the world things that are different what He reveals to the believer that is in Christ?

Again compare to scripture--->>>>Hebrews 10:26 "For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,"

Most sin is willful and if people are not honest enough to acknowledge this truth than that is between them and the Lord.

Whatsoever is not of faith is sin. Do we operate everyday in complete faith? I sure don't but I'm growing in it by the help of the Holy Spirit to transform my mind. The blood of Jesus cleanses us as we walk in this life - not of us are walking in all that is ours in Christ yet.

If the fact that the willful sin is unbelief in the sacrifice of Jesus as seen in Hebrews 10:26 - if this upsets your religious views - so be it.

Answer this question and it will reveal the truth about "willful sinning".

Have you ever wilfully sinned? Of course you have - so in your religion if the wilful sin is any other sin but unbelief in Christ - there remains no more sacrifice for sins and thus you will die with those sins still on you because Christ's sacrifice for those sins will not be for you
.

Can't you see that this is a bunch of religious nonsense? Why not just actually believe the gospel of the grace of Christ instead of your religion?

The truth still remains to yield ourselves to the spirit because we are not under law but it has nothing to do with the wilful sin of rejecting Christ's sacrifice for sins.

The only willful sin in Hebrews 10:26 is rejecting the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ for the sacrifice for sins in the book of Hebrews.

The Hebrews were warned not to rely on the temple sacrificial system or they would be trampling under the blood of the covenant and insulting the Spirit of grace. Heb. 10:29

Let's not defile this thread that talks about the wonderful grace and love of our Lord Jesus Christ with all this malice-filled, slandering of others.

Let's respect this thread. Thank you.

the contradiction is actually you pretending to be a prophet

you sell snake oil and false prophecy

I quoted her words compared to scripture, showing the error. On the other hand, the true slanderers and false accusers are ones like you who just falsely accuse out of hate, never providing any proof of what you falsely accuse of. :)

that's interesting, but I compare YOUR words to the words of Jesus and ALL the prophets

I have found that slander appears to be the only language you comprehend and you dish it out just about every post that you make

there is no humility in your posts...no love...no gentle correction...just CONDEMNATION and that is not of God

I do hate actually...I despise the lies you spread about those in Christ who are my sisters and brothers in the Lord

May God forgive you...I pray you come to your senses before all the CONDEMNATION you so gleefully try to apply to everyone else, comes home to roost...like the curse that does not find a place to rest and returns to the one who sent it

resounding brass and clanging symbols

I don't accept them...I know better...I pray people turn from your false gospel of CONDEMNATION

reading your posts is like reading the obituary section of yesterday's news

and when you run short of responding..because you CANNOT answer to what is true, you resort to mocking

Total possession… and that’s where the whole world is headed. We are going to be controlled by one of two powers. Right now there are a lot of people in the middle, and you can find somebody totally atheistic, or even worshiping the enemy, and still have courtesy, kindness, because the Holy Spirit is still striving with mankind. But at some point in the future, the Holy Spirit will begin to separate as people make permanent decisions for eternity. And then eventually when all decisions have been made, and the close of probation occurs, Satan will have total control of the finally impenitent, and God will have total control of those that have accepted His seal.
