Some of the threads are obvious started just for contention. I hope and pray that Christians will be discerning enough to stop posting in threads of people who have been banned.

However, I have seen that is not the case because most people don't bother to check time the first post was posted...if the ok is even still active or responding.

We get zombie threads all the time because someone feels like trolling cc..

I was just thinking of somehow you could close the threads started by banned members, some of the more edifying threads talking about the Bible and living a Christian life might be the center of focus. Its like a scavenger hunt to find threads discussing the Bible without contention.

That would take tremendous amounts of time and effort. There are hundreds of zombie threads and thousands of threads made by banned members..

it's been more disappointing than usual lately

start a thread in which you want to discuss actual scripture, and it dies out in 2 or less pages

or, someone comes and tells you that you are using the wrong version of the Bible

it's sure not only the trolls that start threads to argue...

and no, I seriously doubt most people will stop responding to trolls

sadly

I don't know. When people leave as guest all links are removed...couldn't a program be written to close all threads started by a banned member?

I know zombie threads are hopeless.

Wouldn't be viable to write such a program since not all banned memebers are trolls. So that would close potentially dozens or hundreds of valid threads. And since open threads are a big part of drawing in new people, I doubt they'll be making any changes in that direction.
Some are removed if they're bad enough, at the time of the banning. Doing them at the time of banning, or if stumbled across is really the only legitimate way. Hunting down old ones would take hours and hours of time from the volunteers. Not going to see that happen either.

Religion is the worst for arguments.

I don't know why but it just irritates me when people bring up long dead threads and post in them as if their responding to the op when the op has either not been on in years or is banned sometimes I wonder if it's trolling or if they are acting in ignorance but something in me just clicks when I see it and I am like why?

If people are arguing then they need to let it go and walk away but if they are debating at least then something good can come of it. arguing and debating is not the same thing but debating for the sole purpose of debating is arguing.
Religion is one thing that starts the fires of war but an equally powerful fire starter is politics.

These two subjects can turn civilized people into apes throwing poo at each other and putting the two subjects together your asking for it

I've noticed this. I think some people join forums just to have an outlet to debate and spread their views.

Technically, in a debate, each party presents their own argument.

I wanted to give you rep for this but had to spread it around more.

There are certain threads I just don't get involved with any more as I know it will
end up a rugby scrum. Or if I post on a thread and it turns ugly (no offence ugly :D)
then I don't bother posting any more. (Unless it's a one sided outright case of someone
being abused and bullied then I will tell the other party exactly what I think - don't
mess with Miri. Lol).

Pride gets in the way, with each party wanting to get in the last word. Is this really
displaying Christ like attitudes. Once a person has given their opinion and heard the
counter opinions, why can't we just leave it alone folks. It's like picking and picking at
a sore.

I just commented on one from 6 years ago where someone wants prayer for their hospitalized mother

I mean these things do not float to the surface

it's ridiculous IMO

It think it would be possible to auto- delete all threads by banned members, but if it is, I suspect that vBulletin would have to implement it, rather than CC specifically

I had a gaming site for 10 years. I also had a gardening site for 8 years. I also had voice over IP for 9 years when dial up was game.
I had 5 moderators. When something was brought to our attention all 5 of us would look at the posting. If we felt it was wrong we would delete the posting.
If not for the moderators I would never be able to keep up.

This is something that Admin. might consider.

I wouldn't delete any of them it would be easier to just lock them after a period of inactivity. Some forum software has this ability but not sure about the one CC uses.

I've had a few different forms. Free ones and purchased all can delete a posting.

IMO,many people look at the title and respond without looking at the date of the OP,me Included,so then,

That would put the onus on the poster for not noticing the age of the OP,BUT,IMO,ressurecting dead threads would happen less if

There was a "promt" before a member submits their post saying something like "are you sure you want to submit your post In a dead thread"?

But then I think there might already be an option under settings--->general settings'
