Amen.....we have "a new law" now in the New Covenant.....

Those in Christ live now by the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus, the law of love, the law of liberty, the law of faith ( the law is NOT of faith ) all of which is the law of Christ - Himself inside of us bearing His fruit in our lives of which love comes first.

Yes. The question is what about some non-Christian who is not a Jew. Why should he be under the Jewish Law that was issued to Israel?

Correct, the law didn't stop it. And although there were men who thought they were obeying it, they were only obeying it outwardly, but God looks at the heart and demands truth in the inward parts. In fact, Jesus made me see that the law was much more holy than I originally thought. Not only must I not murder outwardly but now I must not even do it inwardly. Yet the harder I tried to stop murdering in spirit, the worse it became for me. So simply choosing to not murder wasn't working. Even despite the love He showed me in dying for me, I still couldn't stop being angry and resentful when someone treated me bad. I desperately wanted to stop murdering but I couldn't. So is the solution to say I have been freed from the law that commands that I must not murder? Is the solution to say that there is now no more demand from God that I not murder?

As Paul explains to us in Romans the problem for Christians isn’t us doing what we want to do, it’s us doing what we don’t want to do. The solution is to see that our need for Jesus is continual, and to give thanks to God through Jesus Christ our lord.

Commands, yes. "The Law", nope.

Is it that important of a distinction? God said don't do it. They did it. The result was death. So whether we say it was a command or a law, if God says don't and we do, death is the result. I don't see the importance of distinguishing some subtle difference between command or law, when the result of not doing what He commands is death AND the result of not doing what He calls law is death. But maybe you are seeing something very important that I am not.

I agree...for those not a Jew - Paul said this that the gentiles have the law written on their hearts now. This is a by-product from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil that entered the human race in Adam.

When we are in Christ - we change "trees" to eat from the Tree of Life - which is Christ Himself

Romans 2:14-15 (NASB)
[SUP]14 [/SUP] For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves,

[SUP]15 [/SUP] in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them,

So...you mean my need for forgiveness by His blood is continual because I can't stop murdering? So He died to do away with the penalty of sin but not to do away with the sin?

If the law expired, wouldn't it mean that "sin" (which is the breaking of said law) no longer exists? If the law expired wouldn't it mean no one can possibly sin anymore no matter what they do?

Also, how can someone possibly place themselves back "under the law" - in an attempt to justify themselves - if it no longer exists?

..See what I'm getting at? Doesn't the whole thing collapses on itself if the law expired?

The Law never expired it was completely fulfilled in Jesus Christ and his redemptive work on the Cross....This happened when Jesus put his blood on the mercy seat in Heaven as we are told in Hebrews 9.11-14 and the Holy Ghost was sent at Pentecost...

The Law does not convict a sinner of his wrong doing or his need for a Savior today. The Holy Ghost was sent to convince the sinner of his sin and the need for a Savior when the Law was fulfilled.

John 16.5-11
[SUP]5 [/SUP]“But now I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ [SUP]6 [/SUP]But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. [SUP]7 [/SUP]But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. [SUP]8 [/SUP]And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; [SUP]9 [/SUP]concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; [SUP]10 [/SUP]and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; [SUP]11 [/SUP]and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.

The unrighteous today are convinced of their SIN and brought to Jesus through the Holy Ghost and not any part of the Law....Romans 8.2 says [SUP]2 [/SUP]For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.

The Law was our Tutor until Christ....

Gal 4.23-25
[SUP]23 [/SUP]But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. [SUP]24 [/SUP]Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. [SUP]25 [/SUP]But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

While the Bible never says it, I believe the moment the Holy Ghost was given at Pentecost on earth, is when Jesus entered into the Holy Place in Heaven and offered his blood in the Mercy seat....

The Law has been fulfilled and today we have the Holy Ghost and Faith....because we Have Jesus Christ....

Romans Chapter 7 shows us the condition of converted life if we try to work it out in our own power and then he shows us what converted life is with the Spirit and empowering grace in chap 8....

You are not powerless over SIN....SIN becomes a choice once you become a saint.....

1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

Did you get that? "Sin is the transgression of the law."

Many churches teach that the law is done away with, but that is not what John nor Jesus said. That is dangerous talk. Then there are others that spiritualize this and say that someone in Christ doesn't choose to do anything that isn't righteous.

Sin is the transgression or breaking of the law. The church world today goes from some that totally disregard the law, to those that place a strict bondage of the law to where there is no freedom in Christ. However, those that are the most spiritual sick are those that label things that are natural as a sin. God created man and woman, and God made man for woman, and woman for man and God made each of them attractive to each other. The woman is God's gift to man, and to admire the beauty of an attractive lady is not a sin. That is a natural thing in what God has created, and it is part of the plan of God.

My friend, when you become baptized and go under the water when you come up from that water, those natural instincts that God has placed in all men and women will still be there, and that is why we study God's Word so we can keep our emotions under control and disciplined. God's Word sets the standards that God accepts, not some board of deacons.

When you falter, repent and get back on course. As long as you live in the flesh, you will have the emotions and temptations of the flesh. Learn from God's Word what is sin, and not sin and don't let others put a guilt trip on you, when it is uncalled for.

It is not alright to sin. The law was given as our schoolmaster, and when Christ came to earth He did not destroy the law, but He fulfilled it. Christ was the capstone on the old, and just as it was the schoolmaster, it is still the schoolmaster.

The law tells you what will get you into trouble, while you are living in the flesh. So because transgression against the law is sin, obviously the law cannot be done away with. All of God's laws are in effect, accept those blood ordinances that are not laws. They are statutes that have to do with those ordinances. Christ's blood fulfilled all those requirements, and in and through repentance to the Father in Jesus Christ's name, the blood of Christ blots out the Father's judgment of you for those sins. Christ's blood takes the place of those blood sacrifices.

Many of the laws are warnings to the dangerous things that can happen to you when these laws are disregarded. One who turns his back to Sodomy these days generally finds himself with an incurable disease. Even though repentance is sought for those wicked acts, the person still must pay the price for his actions in them.

When a person sets out to rob another person, many times the victim has a weapon and wounds or kills that attacker. This is right according to God's law, yet the robber is sent to the heavenly Father to account for his actions in the flesh body. What I am drawing attention to is the fact that when you break God's laws, there is a price to pay, in most cases, even if there is repentance for that act at a later date.

Now let's review this verse; when you sin, you are breaking the law, because sin is the breaking of the laws of God. If there was no law, there would be no sin, because you simply can not transgress that law that doesn't exist. It is only a fool that would say that we have no sin in this mixed up world today.

It is an 'eternal' standard of righteousness. When Jesus said 'it is finished' he was not referring to the end of the law but to His human mission on earth.

If this is correct, the temple veil would have never been torn in half...

Although there are many ways that Christians want to weasel out of them still used, the Ten Commandments are still in effect.

God provided the Mosaic (Levitical) Laws to enable the Israelites to keep them. Only one, Jesus, could keep these laws.

God provided the new commandment(s) to enable those who have been born again to keep them. If we love God as he has loved us, and we love each other as God has loved us, we keep all of his commandments.

We still have the choice, keep the commandments by keeping the Mosaic law, or keep the commandments through our love of God and each other.

Romans 13.8-10

[SUP]8 [/SUP]Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. [SUP]9 [/SUP]For this, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” [SUP]10 [/SUP]Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

The "Law" never expired only a part of it; the ritual/blood part of it. Yet it did not expire either, it was fulfilled in Y-shua.

The Law never expired it was completely fulfilled in Jesus Christ and his redemptive work on the Cross....This happened when Jesus put his blood on the mercy seat in Heaven as we are told in Hebrews 9.11-14 and the Holy Ghost was sent at Pentecost...

If you could please clarify the section in purple for me so I'm not misunderstanding you...

Are you telling me that the Holy Spirit convicts a sinner, one who *hasn't* confessed or known Christ, of their sin in order for them to come TO Christ?

...They don't have to first repent and be baptized for symbolic remission of their sin, in order to THEN receive the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38)? The same Holy Spirit that the world doesn't know (John 14:17) tells this unregenerated, worldly man - with a mind of flesh who can't understand the things of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:14), and who's naturally at enmity with God (Romans 8:7) - that they're sinful and in need of Christ?

We, as Christians, are also priests of God, that does not mean we are priests for the world.

BTW, if Law is still valid, are we priests or Jews are priests? Or does God have two priestshoods?

I think you misunderstand my intentions here. I think you're having a knee-jerk reaction to seeing the phrase "the law didn't expire", and so you begin to tie to it everything we all usually argue about regarding the law etc, etc.

...But what you bring up may be another good thread to start too: "Did both priesthoods always exist?" Or maybe a better title, "Which priesthood came first?"
