Hey guys what are your thoughts on lying? Would you consider it a sin to tell a white lie? What I mean by that is to tell a lie in order to protect the other person. I would appreciate thoughts on this.

I think it has more to do with motives than what we say.
Is it for our own gain, or is it to protect someone and / or avoid hurting their feelings?
(and do we always know for sure / admit what is what?)
It's like the classic "What if you were hiding jews in your house during the holocaust and a nazi knocked on your door and asked if you were hiding someone?" Obviously, you would do a greater evil by handing over the person than by lying.

Is this a trick question? bc you cant truly love someone and not follow Gods ways
well in my opinion although it may hurt the person and they may have a bit of worry about what must be said it should be said.. Holding truth from someone to spare their feelings is not a good idea. Most often they end up finding out about it anyways then they may be mad at you for knowing and not saying anything.... I have learned that white lies even being done with good intentions never end up good.....i would rather hurt a person for a little bit and try to be honest then lie...
If someone sings a bad solo in church and then asks you how they did, do you say, "It was bad"?

No need to lie. Pants don't make someone look fat. They are. They aren't. Their tush sticks out too much. Their thighs bulge in those pants. They're 1-2 sizes too small. Muffintop because they're too tight around the waist. But not the pants' fault, so I can honestly say "No" if the person already bought them and we met at the beginning of the party. It's true. I simply won't tell the problem of them until after the party. Why feel embarrassed the entire time?
But a real friend will tell what type of pants won't show off the negatives.
And it is possible not to lie, even white lies. So why do it? It's not kind. It's just easier. We're not called to have an easier life.
I do withhold information, but I won't lie. And me being me, it's really tough to be diplomatic in holding back sometimes. lol

Should they be saved from worrying? Worrying is my best way of coming up with a plan. (Granted, God tends to change every plan I have, but I'd rather take the time to think it out then be broadsided.)
i change the topic then you do not have to lie lol but yes i know everyone tells white lies to spare feelings or what not.... I guess it depends on what the white lie is.... If anyone on this posts says they do not tell a white lie every now and then they are lying lol... not condoning white lying by the way... I just know that sometimes they slip out with out people thinking about it sometimes.... that is the glory of God being forgiving or we would all be going to hell..

yes! bc then they can work on it more and not continue to embarrass themselves.. Why does it help to not be honest?
Do you want the best for them? truth is what is best.. sure they may cringe to know but they have the ability to grow bc you told the truth..

I'm tone deaf. (Actually had a ENT doctor diagnose me. lol) If someone is bad enough that I noticed, I would tell all the parts I liked and then tell the part where it was off (and I had to ask hubby, because sometimes I'm not sure if I heard it right. lol) Usually the person appreciates that I liked 98% of it, and she was really asking, "Was I so bad you even noticed?" So answering gives her a chance to figure out where she needs work.
I've even done this for a friend who is a renowned author, and he appreciated me telling him where the short story slipped out of chronological order because he was going to use that version in his anthology.
