One of the qualities of a mature Christian is that they can be respectful to a person they are debating. An immature Christian breaks down at some point and insults the person they disagree with. The mature Christian keeps debating till his point is proven or disproven.

True, you'd be surprised how many younger christians show more respect & maturity than the elders.

Here's what's on my heart: Treat people with respect even when you feel they don't deserve it... Practicing that can be difficult at times.

No one ever enjoys it when someone disagrees with their opinion. I often vigorously argue my point. Perhaps you and I have debated. That is all well and good. The problem comes with the insults. When I tell you that you aren't a Christian (because we disagree on something), then I have insulted you.

The good news is that once someone has insulted you, they've pretty much lost the argument, assuming you can resist the urge to insult them back.

Yesterday, I was at the doctors office waiting to go back for a chest x ray and this older gentleman was sitting there waiting for a blood test. Here I was running a fever of 102 feeling really sick and just wanted to go climb in bed, this guy looked tired and like he was really upset. I smiled at him and the largest smile came across his face, I knew at that moment he hasn't done that in a very long time. I then told him, "I can think of a few places I'd rather be" he laughed and started telling me that he needed a good laugh because his kids never called or invited him for Christmas. I was heartbroken. When I see people out and about I smile in hopes that it brightens their day. Some return with a smile and some don't, but whatever happens show someone that you care by a smile you never know what they are facing in their life

Should the Ignore button ever be used?

This is so true, though I never knew just how much until a week or two ago. Don't remember the particulars, except that I was tired and feeling low while at the store. Then out of the blue a cashier, an older guy, looked me dead in the eye and I just immediately felt like he knew I was down. Then he gave me a smile. I cannot explain why I felt so relieved, but I did. That one gesture made the rest of the day better for me.

We need more people like you, from personally experience I can say that a genuine smile from someone could make my day a whole lot better.

i think that is one thing I donot understand with younger people. It seems to they lost the respect for elders and they want to you to respect them. To me respect like trust has to earn but i agree with it seems younger Christians have more respect then older ones.

Funny, I see the same thing in older people.
Respect is earned. If the "older" ones act like defiant toddlers, why should the younger ones respect them?
(Customer support experience: the older the more cranky, aggressive and rude)

Jesus commanded us to love our neighbors as ourselves. He didn't say to love people who had earned our love.

We elderly people are very nice.

PS. 138:6.
Though the LORD be high, yet hath He respect unto the lowly: but the proud He knoweth afar off.

1JOHN 3:14.
We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren.
He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
