Sobriety is strongly recommended, while drinking to celebrate is not condemned.
Let us not forget that Jesus made very good wine for a wedding celebration.
It is the first miracle He performed according to the gospel of John.

1 Peter 5:8

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil
prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Galatians 5:21
Envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Peter 4:7
The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled
and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.

Proverbs 20:1
Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and
whoever is led astray by it is not wise.

1 Thessalonians 5:6
So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober.

1 Timothy 3:2
Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

Proverbs 23:29-35
Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? Those who tarry long over wine; those who go to try mixed wine. Do not look at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup and goes down smoothly. In the end it bites like a serpent and stings like an adder. Your eyes will see strange things, and your heart utter perverse things. ...

Ephesians 5:18
And do not get drunk with wine, for that is
debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,

Titus 2:2
Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness.

2 Timothy 4:5
As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

Isaiah 5:11
Woe to those who rise early in the morning, that they may run after strong drink, who tarry late into the evening as wine inflames them!

1 Corinthians 5:11
But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.

1 Timothy 3:3
Not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Proverbs 23:20-21
Be not among drunkards or among gluttonous eaters of meat, for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and slumber will clothe them with rags.

Romans 12:1
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

1 Corinthians 6:10
Nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers,
nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Peter 4:3
For the time that is past suffices for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry.

Romans 14:21
It is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do
anything that causes your brother to stumble.

Romans 13:13
Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy.

Isaiah 28:7
These also reel with wine and stagger with strong drink; the priest and the prophet reel with strong drink, they are swallowed by wine, they stagger with strong drink, they reel in vision, they stumble in giving judgment.

Proverbs 23:31
Do not look at wine when it is red, when it sparkles
in the cup and goes down smoothly.

Hosea 4:11
Whoredom, wine, and new wine, which take away the understanding.

Leviticus 10:9
“Drink no wine or strong drink, you or your sons with you, when you go into the tent of meeting, lest you die. It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations.

Titus 2:7
Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity,

1 Timothy 5:23
(No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for the
sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.)

1 John 2:15
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone
loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

It's wrong if your motives for drinking are wrong.

The real question is, what motives are right motives to drink (Since alcohol is a drug) and effects your brain.

I grew up not being around it so it was normal for me not to drink. However, as I've gotten older and have gone out to the bar with friends to celebrate coworkers finding a new job or because of the Christmas party at work, I limit myself to one drink and that's it, no matter what. I
personally feel as tho there is nothing wrong with it, but you also need to be disciplined in that one drink but hey that's just me :)

Jesus comes as a thief in the night. Those that like having the booze buzz should be careful, we was warned. 1Thessalonians 5, Titus 2:12, 1 Peter 5:8, Matthew 24.

I won't call myself a Christian, but I think the use of alcohol should be limited and done very carefully. I'm attending AA because I don't have enough self-control to abstain from ingesting large amounts of alcohol on a regular basis. Ain't nobody's fault but mine - I'm the weak one. I'm in no place to judge others for what they do or do not do.

"Use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities" (1 Timothy 5:23).

"Be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess"
(Ephesians 5:18)

So, nothing wrong with a glass of wine or a beer, but polish off the whole bottle or 6 pack, and you've probably got a problem.

i didn't like what you are saying about yourself, just wanted to get your attention. Don't be so down on yourself, alcoholic iis an allergy, a sickness, kinda like diabetes, and other diseases. Its better for an alcoholic not to drink, just like its better for a diabetic not to eat sugar. You are not weak because you can't drink, and its not your fault, its hereditary. Just wanted to share.

I both drink and smoke. Probably too much. Not that I'm getting drunk or anything, it's more like an effort to make old times nightmares go away.
