The annoying thing about it is that they think you really don't understand because they don't like certain words you use. They insist you think something you don't. So it always becomes an argument over how you can't use a certain word or they will do everything in their power to make everyone so miserable that conversation will cease. It doesn't matter so much to me what words someone uses. It matters what they MEAN by the words. One person may say "teal" and another may say " blueish green."

Yes, I generally try to use those circa 1500's Shakespearian, Elizabethan words as they are understood and used today. I don't find it productive to use those old words (Which now days are understood a lot differently than when they were first written.) to try and incite sensationalism from false meanings. We all know that these days, CONVICT, carries with it a courtroom implication of criminality... NOT a loving admonishment to come back into the Father's arms.

He can say it was Him they did those things for because He LIVED in each of those people.

It's like Jesus is saying you served me in obedience by feeding the hungry, giving the thirsty something to drink, inviting the stranger into your home, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and those imprisoned.

So to the unbelievers it's like Jesus is saying to them that they didn't serve Him or obey Him and their lack of obedience, works will condemn them. The proof is in the pudding kind of thing. It proves they have no faith.

Actually, they weren't "serving Him in obedience." They were simply following their hearts.

You see, if it had been an "obedience" thing, they wouldn't have had to ask, in total surprise, "When did we do all these good things to you?!?!?" They would have known, very well, each and every time that they had given out a cup of water in obedience, because they would have been very consciously mindful of making sure to do it "intentionally" in regular and almost scheduled obedience.

As it was, they were amazed that the simple compassionate living they had done because they honestly just WANTED to do it, was considered by God to really be the "obedience" He was looking for from humans.

It's not about schedules and a list of tasks. It's about prayerful meditation on good and right things that God might ask us to do.

Their surprise was that Jesus was in each of those people they were helping....just as He can be found in those who do the helping.

It's about being the Body of Christ. Living a life that shines so brightly with God's love that people are drawn to the light and you can help them be resurrected from the dead into a renewed life in Christ.

I think what Willie is getting at - is that there is a religion of Christianity that mimics the real life of Christ but it is not necessarily flowing from His life inside of us and it is not from the Lord.

Trying to force people to "do things" in the name of the Lord instead of preaching Christ and allowing His fruit to come forth naturally from them - like the scriptures that desertsrose put up. The righteous did good works unconsciously - not from "being obedient".

One is a slave mentality and the other is being a son participating in the family business of loving others and extending the grace and love of our loving Father to others. The reality is = by being a son - we are obedient by default.

Jesus said that a little leaven ruins the whole lump.

I'm not saying anyone is saying that - it is just something we should be aware of because in truth this is deadly to our growing in the Lord and following Him by the Holy Spirit within us.

The religion of Christianity is an enemy of the Lord Jesus Christ and it is really a product of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Even though I agree it's a natural flow from their hearts. I disagree that it wasn't conciously and intentionally done.

They made a decision: help others or seek my own pleasures. They decided what to do with their time and energy.

Again the surprise wasn't that the works were good, but that Jesus was in those they are helping and that they got a reward.

Most people lead by the Holy Spirit don't expect recognization or reward for doing good works. Mainly because they only did what was expected. Therefore they are humble enough to realize that they are actually Unprofitable servants.

Why would anyone want to dictate to others what God tells them to do? Personally have enough on my plate living my own life.

I find fulfillment i doing the good work God created me to do and believe others will as well. However who gives a baby a shovel and tells them to plant a tree?

It's sort of along the same lines as men serving angels and not knowing they were angels in the OT...

The righteous did good works unconsciously - not from "being obedient".

This is a very subtle slur on people. If you do a good work consciously that is wrong,
only unconscious acts qualify.

The point Jesus is making in His parable is people consciously reached out and loved,
while others did not. It was very much a conscious act of good works, which anyone
who does them knows it takes time, effort, emotion, risk, love and money.

I never knew such behaviour could be unconscious unless you are a zombie.

We need to remember they are different judgments though.

The believer is judged for their works, to see what (if any) reward they will receive.

The unbeliever is judged for his work, and found lacking, and sentenced to the second death.
