Just saw an advertisement for a pharmaceutical for Crohn's disease, which reminded me that I also just read that colloidal silver has helped many people with Crohn's. I'm not sure I am spelling this right, I just know that there is an "h" in there somewhere. The article was from the Silver Edge website, but I use the product and have knocked out food poisoning with it, and it is good for so many things, I don't doubt it's effectiveness for Crohn's. The article didn't say that it helped everybody and it is not a cure, but there is no problem with long term use, so if it works, great.

From Mayo Clinic's website.

My dad takes colloidal silver for his health, but is it safe?

Answers from Brent A. Bauer, M.D.

Colloidal silver isn't considered safe or effective for any of the health claims manufacturers make. Silver has no known purpose in the body. Nor is it an essential mineral, as some sellers of silver products claim.

Colloidal silver products are made of tiny silver particles suspended in a liquid — the same type of precious metal used in jewelry, dental fillings, silverware and other consumer goods.

Colloidal silver products are usually marketed as dietary supplements that are taken by mouth. Colloidal silver products also come in forms to be injected or applied to the skin.

Manufacturers of colloidal silver products often claim that they are cure–alls, boosting your immune system, fighting bacteria and viruses, and treating cancer, HIV/AIDS, shingles, herpes, eye ailments and prostatitis.

However, no sound scientific studies to evaluate these health claims have been published in reputable medical journals. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration has taken action against some manufacturers of colloidal silver products for making unproven health claims.

It's not clear how much colloidal silver may be harmful, but it can build up in your body's tissues over months or years.

Most commonly, this results in argyria (ahr–JIR–e–uh), a blue-gray discoloration of your skin, eyes, internal organs, nails and gums. While argyria doesn't pose a serious health problem, it can be a cosmetic concern because it doesn't go away when you stop taking silver products.

Rarely, excessive doses of colloidal silver can cause possibly irreversible serious health problems, including kidney damage and neurological problems such as seizures.

Colloidal silver products may also interact with medications, including penicillamine (Cuprimine, Depen), quinolone antibiotics, tetracycline and thyroxine (Levothroid, Levoxyl, Synthroid) medications.

I am not sure where you got this info from, but most it is bogus. I cannot say one way or the other about the interaction of it and pharmaceutical drugs, but the rest is incorrect. There are many reputable scientific papers that attest to the efficacy and safety of nano colloidal silver. The black stuff is not nano colloidal silver, but is suitable for external use. The reputable scientific papers I refer to are listed at the end of this website article. Where to Find Reliable Information on Colloidal Silver!

To Sherril I will check out the site. Thank you!

I have made and taken this....after a month the aches and pains in my joints "arthritis" went away and I was able again to pop my knuckles.....I have researched this extensively and numerous civilizations, people, groups have used silver to heal, cure, purify etc.....

it does work....

I even made an extra heavy gallon one time (20 minutes and a 1$ gallon of distilled water) and used it in an outhouse at my cabin in the woods off grid...completely killed the odor for over 2 months middle of summer....

Kills all known pathogens in less than 5 minutes and has NUMEROUS uses around the house....will keep jelly from molding as well.....

Just saying.....!

Like I said I don't know where you got this from. I went to the Mayo Clinic website under "Drugs and Supplements and nothing came up when I searched for colloidal silver.

You're definitely entitled to your own opinion. :)

I follow many natural ways of dealing with health and frankly, I follow the legitimate studies and research. I'm going by what Mayo Clinic says on this one.

Myoclonic status epilepticus following repeated oral ingestion of colloidal silver.

Neurology. 2004; 62(8):1408-10(ISSN: 1526-632X)
MirsattariSM ;HammondRR ;SharpeMD ;LeungFY ;YoungGB
Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences, University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada.

The authors report a case of a 71-year-old man who developed myoclonic status epilepticus and coma after daily ingestion of colloidal silver for 4 months resulting in high levels of silver in plasma, erythrocytes, and CSF. Despite plasmapheresis, he remained in a persistent vegetative state until his death 5.5 months later. Silver products can cause irreversible neurologic toxicity associated with poor outcome.

we know both who love it and those who don't like it...had results and didn't...

we have to be very careful when we try 'NEW' things, even when doctor's prescribe...

we tried the cs and it didn't do anything for us, but we are way outside of the box
in our dietary and healthy habits, they are a 'priority' for us - we grow much of our
own food and eat 'green' when possible, plus our daily-fresh-home-made-juices...

anything we take will affect us differently than the next person, even hubby and I,
we eat/drink the same way, but are affected in our own way for our own chemical make-up...

RESEARCHING from different sources is a must when trying "NEW" remedies...

Exactly! Thanks oldthennew. :)

It's always wise to use caution and look at both sides and then make a wise decision based on facts. I worry that others may read this and take the colloidal
silver and it might harm them or even kill them.

The doctor that was asked about taking this said we shouldn't ever ingest any metals because they're toxic. Other Drs. may disagree. We need to do research and see if there are reputable studies out there and compare them.

I follow many natural ways of dealing with health and frankly, I follow the legitimate studies and research. I'm going by what Mayo Clinic says on this one.
The Mayo clinic has done much to help humanity over the last 140 or so years. I generally respect them. They have made discoveries in medicine treatments, surgical procedures and isolation of life saving elements. They have won many nobel prizes.
Without their work we would have a considerable amount of decreased knowledge about certain medicinal components.

That being said, they are still at the core a conventional medical establishment. They own and run hospitals.
That in itself is also not a bad thing.

Just keep in mind that they are firmly entrenched in the conventional western medical system.
Here is a quote from one of their articles.

"How can alternative medicine help people with cancer?
Alternative cancer treatments may not play a direct role in curing your cancer..."

I know this to be patently false. This is a example of where their paradigm is at.

I am saying all this to call you out on your reasoning of how you come to certain conclusions about health information.
It seems to me that you just skim the service while eschewing any deep dives. You seem to look at the small picture rather then the big picture.
You seem to take a stance that so and/or so doctor or so and so clinic has a certain reputation and therefore everything they put out must be correct, without looking at and considering conflicting info and studies and/or having a basic knowledge of chemical science and/or human physiology and biology.

it is a combination of either laziness or naivete that seems to compel you.

It is not only you, I have seen it many times. I feel though that for the good of those reading this thread that I should point out that your advice about colloidal silver is at best misleading, and at it's worst can be the impetus to prevent someone from using it to heal a ailment they may have.

I have had my clients use CS many times with good results and no side effects. Same with cocnut oil.

It is important to view the treatment as a whole, weighing the pros and cons.
This is what a good doctor would do when prescribing. Does the benefits outweigh the side effects?

This is what a naturalpathic practitioner will also do. The big difference is that the NP has far less concern regarding the weighing of risk/rewards regarding what he or she is advising the client to use, because by nature the very compounds that is suggested are harmonious with the bodies biological physiology.

Frankly, I think your advice in this site about certain health issues are misleading and can sometimes result in out right tragic results for those who may follow them.

You are correct on many things, but are also wrong on more then a few.

I urge you do a deeper analysis of some of the subjects you are giving your opinion on.

Anything, including water in large amounts can be toxic.
With the advice of a doctor or health care practitioner CS is very safe.
If minerals are toxic then why does our body need them?
What is more toxic, taking a magnesium supplement tablet or eating a McDonalds meal?
