That's the question. What are the gifts of grace? Do we all have the same gifts? And do we all have the same amount of grace? :) Please keep the discussion civil, and use scripture..

Romans 12:3-8New American Standard Bible (NASB)

[SUP]3 [/SUP]For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. [SUP]4 [/SUP]For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, [SUP]5 [/SUP]so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. [SUP]6 [/SUP]Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, [SUP][a][/SUP]according to the proportion of his faith; [SUP]7 [/SUP]if [SUP][b][/SUP]service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; [SUP]8 [/SUP]or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with [SUP][c][/SUP]liberality; he who [SUP][d][/SUP]leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Thank you, Lance. :) The parts in red are things that I don't quite understand. First, doesn't God give us all the SAME measure of faith? And what is meant by "all the members don't have the same function"? Lastly, why do our gifts differ according to the grace we get, IF we're all given the same amount of grace?

The Father has shed His grace upon us. The more mindful we are of Him, the more grace we carry. We must walk carefully, rely on Him and listen for His voice. Grace can be felt! Have a grace-filled day!

this is a paraphrase not a translation and is not talking about the gifts of grace. It is talking about the grace of the Giver.

for example. We are not given 'the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ', rather He shows His grace towards us..

I believe all gifts are offered to each of us but because of our own circumstances and or walk with the Lord we are only given certain gifts. I believe it has to do with the path God puts us on as well. If I'm a Missionary maybe the gift I would need is speaking in tongues or wisdom more than being a prophet. I believe the Disciples had all the gifts because they were put in a situation to perform pretty much all the functions that were needed to witness and start the Church.

Just my opinion.

the bit about not all the members having the same function is the root of many CC debates :p primarily that on tongues
It says that we have been given different tasks to focus on.

i.e: If Joe has been given the gift of giving, the others shouldn't tell him he must be a teacher to prove his worth
(although it is of course possible that God may have given some more than one gift)

[SUP]12 [/SUP]Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
[SUP]13 [/SUP]Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.
[SUP]14 [/SUP]Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
[SUP]15 [/SUP]Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.
[SUP]16 [/SUP]Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.
[SUP]17 [/SUP]Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
[SUP]18 [/SUP]If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
[SUP]19 [/SUP]Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
[SUP]20 [/SUP]Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
[SUP]21 [/SUP]Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:12-21

"Faith" there is speaking of the Christian faith. God has allotted to each Christian a portion of the total ministry of Christ. No one person is capable of expressing the total faith-expression of the Body of Christ, the Church. Which is why we need each other.

It goes along with what Paul says in, 2 Cor. 10:12-13, that we can't nor should we boast beyond the measure we have been given, but we can and we would be right to boast within the measure of the sphere which God apportioned to us as a measure. We should not shrink from declaring the truth we have been given, neither should we go beyond what we have been given. When we do, we always get ourselves into trouble.

Romans 12:3 - For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

1 Corinthians 12:9 - to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit.

God has granted a differing measure of faith to His children. I don't see this as faith that all Christians have in Christ, since Paul implies that some in the body have it and others don't. I see it as a special endowment of faith to accomplish certain tasks in ministry.

I believe Paul tells us we have different gifts.

It appears that God's grace and His greatest gift of grace has been shown to all so that all can be saved by God's grace through faith.

For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,
Titus 2:12

The grace of God is received through faith. Through this unmerited favor of God, we receive mercy, love, forgiveness, joy unspeakable, goodness and kindness and etc. Through this gift package we see that like a diamond with all its various facets, so God's grace is multifaceted in so many ways.

As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:10

Those gifts that come by God's grace are for the building up of one another. As we see that we need each other to thrive and grow in God's grace, we will begin to love and forgive, rejoice with those rejoicing and weep with those weeping. We'll see ourselves as many, but one body. And we'll want to take care of that one body through God's grace.

May we all, as Paul, join hands with him and consider our lives as nothing in comparison to the sharing of the good news of the gospel of God's grace to a lost world.

I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace. Acts 20:24

I thought grace itself was a gift from God. God's gift of grace provides all who believe with eternal salvation.

Ephesians 2:7-10

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are given to us to prepare us to do the work God has chosen for us to do.

I could be wrong, but this is how I see it.

It's not speaking of saving faith. It's speaking of the Christian faith and the part of the ministry each of us has been given a measure of.
