I can't imagine anyone would say that except a Mormon.

I grew up in the Mormon church; it is absolutely, 100%, NOT Christian in any way.

They don't believe Jesus was God.
They believe Jesus was just a man, and he was soo good that he BECAME A God.... of which there are many.
And if the Mormons are really good, they can all become Gods too.

Joseph Smith, their prophet, was a convicted con man.
Even his con gimmick was ridiculous.
He'd put a "magic" rock in his hat, peep into his hat, and see magical information about where to dig for hidden treasure.
He'd visit farmers, do his "peeps stone" trick, and tell them they had hidden treasure on their land, and they'd have to pay him for the information... then he'd run off as fast as possible with the money.
He got thrown into jail more than once.
This stuff is all verified in court records, newspapers, personal letters etc. etc. etc.

If you want to join a fake church, who's prophet was a convicted con man, and who's members believe Jesus was NOT God incarnate, and that Jesus was Satan's brother, and that the Garden of Eden is in Missouri, and you can wear magical "sacred temple" underwear to protect you, and that you can hold baptisms for DEAD PEOPLE by proxy ... well well... the mormon church is the place for you.

Hi Maxwell,

Thanks for the information on Mormonism. I pretty much know many of their beliefs. I've had a couple of different talks with the missionaries, once at a park and once at a mall. They try to deceive you by telling you they believe in Jesus and all.

You piqued my curiosity. Where in Missouri is the Garden of Eden? Do they claim any of them have bee there? It just seems so crazy to say something like that without proof.

honestly i have to disagree with this one brother, ive read the bom from cover to cover, and it is very christian. The bom claims that when Jesus was crucified, during the 40 days he spent after His resurrection, when he would appear and disappear from the disciples in jerusalem, He was appearing in the american continent and teaching them the same things as He taught in the gospel, everything He taught, (well most of what He taught) in the 4 gospels, is also what they claim He taught in the ancient americas.

I cant say i believe it to have happened or that i would ever convert to be a mormon, but i also, have read the bom, and it is for sure a christian based book, i would sooner read it than some of the new age "christian" literature like " the gospel of grace books out there, or many others claiming to be christian. ive always found all i need in the Bible, but if there were no bible on earth, the book of mormon would probably be what i would choose having the Knowledge of the bible and what it says about Jesus.
see i havent read the book myself

but ive spoken to mormans on their beliefs

so i was assuming they were telling me the truth of what was inside the bom

and a lot of what they said were false doctrines

but i never picked it up myself

so if im out of line im sorry

(wether youre right or wrong on this matter, id like to add from what ive seen of you... you love Jesus and are a true brother in christ)

ive read stuff like
the book of solomon
the books of adam and eve
which i feel well can almost say for sure are false doctrines with truth mixed in

i still go over the book of enoch sometimes
im less certain of this

but if i wasnt being lied to about the bom

it is similar to the books of adam and eve

where they take truth
and add lies to it and make fabrications around it

I believe that the 'Church of Christ' denominations also use John Smiths version of Revelation along with the Bibles verson of Revelation.

They are as close to a cult as you can get and not be one. YET?

They believe the Garden of Eden was destroyed in the flood, but that it "used to be" in Independence Missouri (suburb of Kansas City).
That is a sacred place for Mormons.

Oddly enough, Independence Missouri, which is chock full of Mormons, was also the meth capital of the u.s. until just recently.
Hmmm.

Like most of the "christian cults", they are very legalistic.
We all recognize the common "fruits" of legalism... guilt, shame, fear, rebellion, self loathing, self destructive behavior.
And those fruits cause all kinds of problems, and take many forms.

I love Mormon people... but I don't love their church.

Pray for him and tell him the truth about Mormonism if he is unware of it. Tell him the path he is on by following it's doctrine. If he rejects the truth and won't heed warnings then he will be held accountable

1 corinthians 15:29 "Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?

Paul used this verse arguing for the resurrection. just an fyi. concerning baptism of the dead :)

and honestly im okay with you not imagining me saying that, though Im not a member of the lds church, the Only judgement i will ever care about, is that of Jesus Christ. whether CATHOLIC, lds, "mormon" baptist, lutheran, protostant or any other label mankind comes up with, One thing will always remain true.

2 timothy 2:19 "Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

im not willing to eliminate anyone based on what church they attend. Ill leave that for others. because personally, maybe this is Just me and all, my opinion doesnt matter One iota, when it comes to Who Jesus Christ will accept.........God bless you

bro, i just disagreed with you on this subject, i truly meant no offense and would never think Less of you or anyone else in the world. I also have seen the Love for Jesus in you, i was simply sharing something with you pertaining to the subject. please dont think im saying anyone else should read it, heck ive read the koran also.

One of the main things youll notice with many people is they have an opinion of EVERYTHING, and when doctrines come up theyl;l says " theyre of the devil" oir they are heretice" or that books of the enemy" stuff like that, noit only with mormonism, but with any church in the world. thats one of the reasons i responded to your comment there, simply because i have read the book. i alsi shared the article of faith that is written in the book of mormon. i was sort of offering the idea, that before we reject groups, we should find out whats there for ourselves.

i hope you understand the spirit in that, i sometimes dont offer the right words to espress my thought. Just a consideration. Inoticed how many people kind of follow thier own opinions, i heard 100 different things they say "mormons believe" my point is what i found in thier book was quite different from anything i heard from others about thier doctrine.

that being said there are several things i never agreed with them on. One it seems to be too important that we " beloieve that joseph smith is a prophet" and they like many denominations believe they are the real church, but thats true of catholics. reformists, old school protestants, even the new angles coming forth like the gog movement. every denomination believes its thier way or your wrong.....thats the things that causes denominations.

i know isalm to be false because again i heard all they believe, then went and found out for myself thier scriptures. imagine if all the athiests were to be accepoted when they said " christians belive this or that" you know? the only way to Know what christians believe, is to read Our Holy Bible, cant judge by the way most live or even what most say. that was the only reason i replied, i sincerely apologize if i gave you any offense, God Loves you and may you Be blessed !!

Maxwell got it right....

FollowJesus, you've been conned. You need to do much more research into it... they definitely don't believe in the same God that we do.

That's not to say they are not good people... the ones I have met and talked to are wonderful, family-loving people... but that trait does not save you.
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

lol how am i conned when i made clear that i read the book myself ? an should have added prayerfully read it?

im assuming catholics also dont believe in the same God because the life mary up and have the blessed mother prayer?

listen carefully. it is not for any Human on earth to decide whos accepted of God, and you are maybe judging form things you have heard rather than from one who read the bom, not sure really, but first, the kjv bible is a part of mormon doctrine, they believe the Law was fulfilled in Jesus and the gospel is our way. they believe in repentance of sin, they believe in following the word of Jesus Christ as He set forth in the gospel.

now, that being said, i dont have agreement on sertain things at all, which is why i made clear, no one should go convert to mormonism, nor would i ever. but i wouldnt convert to catholosism i would never follow such a teacher as joseph prince wither, never would convert to many different sects and denominations. the Only "True church" are those who truly put faith in Jesus, repent of sin, and follow the things taught in the Bibles new testament.

any man made doctrine is off the mark, doesnt matter who is making it or what they call it. what im saying is we cant judge anything until we go do the study and compare it to the Holy bible. I did so, and found it to be not at all opposite, but very much in Line with scripture. anyone who knows me well in these forums Know where my Life is, and what Book i trust in, and its not the bom, its the Word of God, the Bible.

there are alot of things that arent written though, Jesus is not able to be limited but By His own enduring word. If Ive been " Conned" it is by the words in the gospel of the Kingdom of God, according to matthew, mark, Luke and John.

thats the reason i sat and discussed with them, because ive met mormons and they are great people. and when you sit and talk with them awhile, all they talk about is Jesus, and they have good understanding of the 4 gospels, the only real difference is that the doctrine and covenants are based on Joseph smitths prophecies, which may be a real thing, but they arent for me because i have what i need with Faith In Jesus Christ and His word, supported fully and completely by the Bible.

God bless buddy

They don't believe Jesus was God.
They believe Jesus was just a man, and he was soo good that he BECAME A God.... of which there are many.
And if the Mormons are really good, they can all become Gods too.

Not true at all they Believe Jesus IS the only begotten Son of God.

as to the rest Here

john 10:35 "
Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? 35If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; 36Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

psalm 82:5-8 "They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.6I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
7
But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
8Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.

what does it mean that adam was created in Gods image? that makes mankind after the fall, fallen gods << little g.

we were gods, made in His express image and person Just Like Jesus was when He came to earth. and what el;se is, were being made back into "gods" because were being made into the image of Gods Only begotten who brought us back from the fall, into eternal Children of The only God.

as too the "many gods in your statement

1 corinthians 8:5 "For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)

"Joseph Smith, their prophet, was a convicted con man."

Jesus was a "convicted blasphemer by the high priests of God"

"
If you want to join a fake church"

I expressly said " I would never convert to mormonism and no one else should either"

and incase you missed my address to your baptism of the dead see my other comment

this really is the Kind of percepton problem i discussed awhile back lol

what i said was Having read for myself the book of mormon, i find it to be consistant with the gospel, and that i expect to see all denominations who accept and follow the Lord in Faith to be with Him catholice, protestants, mormon, baptist ect.....the only real church, are those with true Faith in the Lord.

God bles you though either way.

Mormons do not believe Jesus is God. Neither does followjesus.

Mormons believe Jesus is the spirit brother of Satan...
that Jesus was created just as Satan was as an angel.

Christianity teaches that Jesus created Satan,
since Jesus created all that is, including angels.

Mormons believe that God was once a man as we are now.
This does not pertain in any way to Jesus Christ and can
not be called a Christian belief in any way shape or form.

Mormons believe that God has a body of flesh and bone. This
cannot be called a Christian belief in any way shape or form.
Christianity teaches that God is Spirit.

Mormons believe God was a man and that He had sexual
intercourse with Mary and that is how Jesus was born. This
cannot be called a Christian belief in any way shape or form.

Mormons believe that God lives on the planet Kolob. This
cannot be called a Christian belief in any way shape or form.

Mormons believe that if you do "all the right things" that
you can become a god and rule your own universe. This
cannot be called a Christian belief in any way shape or form.

Mormons do not believe in one true God but in a progression of gods.
This cannot be called a Christian belief in any way shape or form.

Okay so we grew up Southern Baptist. I moved on to non denominational. Apparently my mom was recently informed that my brother has become a Mormon and she's quite upset about it.
I'm not sure what to think. At least they are not atheist
I don't think I'd worry about it.

followjesus,

I'm sure you're a very nice person.
You seem like a nice guy with good intentions.
However, I've never heard anyone try to defend Mormon beliefs... except other Mormons.

Also, I've never heard of a genuine believer, in any orthodox tradition, read the Book Of Mormon and think it's anything but silly.

You seem to be, very gently, making the arguments of a Mormon apologist.

* Everything I stated about Mormonism is documented, and factual, and can be easily verified.

* Everything I stated about Joseph Smith is documented, and factual, and can be easily verified.

* The VERY FEW verses that seem to support their odd beliefs are ALWAYS a misunderstanding of the simple context, and can be easily exegeted correctly with a minimal effort.

* Regarding your claims the Book of Mormon seems so reasonable:
A. You're leaving out all of the extraordinarily crazy things, like the ancient Israelites sailing to North American in what was essentially a SUBMARINE, and Native American Indians all being Israelites... which DNA testing has proven to be false.
B. The Mormon church has several OTHER BOOKS which they also claim to be DIVINELY INSPIRED SCRIPTURE... these also contain their own measures of nonsense.
C. The Mormon church has many beliefs which they USED TO PUBLISH in books and journals, but which are so crazy they no longer publish these beliefs... in order to avoid looking crazy. But, they still BELIEVE all these things which they no longer publish, and they still teach them. (By taking their especially odd beliefs out of print, they can MORE EASILY DEFEND THEIR FAITH... by pretending these beliefs aren't their real beliefs. Basically, it's a system of being dishonest to fool the public, and avoid conflict.)
D. The Mormons' primary evangelism tools are to be sweet and kind and loving, and kill you with kindness... that is what all cults do to bring in new members. This is their ONLY evangelistic tool, like all cults, because they have no EVIDENCE, either biblical, historical, or logical, to support their beliefs.
E. Most of the tactics and issues I've listed above are classic techniques commonly used by all cults. Enough said.

Trying to argue against Mormonism is like trying to convince someone the sky is blue, it's both silly, and easily self evident.
It's silly.
There are many WELL DOCUMENTED BOOKS, VIDEOS, and WEBSITES going into all of this in great detail.
Therefore, I'm going to politely exit this thread.

God Bless,
Max

One more thing:
I'm sure followjesus is a nice guy, and I'm not out to hate on him... but when he posts specific examples to try and refute my assertions... be aware... this is something that ONLY A MORMON APOLOGIST even knows how to do.

We can be kind, and loving... while also being intelligent and aware.

i pray these people who appear to love God and know something of truth to make it to heaven too

What were his reasons, polygamy?
Yeah, maybe singles guys with lust issues wanna have excuse to have multiple wives

Did he become Mormon to follow the doctrine?
No, he thought it would be cool to ride around on bicycles wearing slacks, a white shirt, and a tie!

they are at thier foundation Christians, who accept the kjv version of the bible 100 percent
If you actually believe that... you are ripe for deception!

satan enjoys getting people to this point where they agree with something that is false that they know nothing about and are incapable of understanding why others say it's false.

Maybe you should go ahead an join up!

Yes, the Mormons know the KJV, but their teachings are from the book of Mormon and not the bible.
Exactly...

I can understand where you are coming from here. However, like I said in a previous post on this thread, my mom, a baptist, started going to the Mormon church at one point.

They came out in the neighbor. They were very friendly and willing to do charitable acts of service. Which definitely seems Christian right? They also didn't mention anything about their Extra-biblical practices or beliefs until AFTER she started attending their church. In my observation, they are very crafty about how they draw people into that cult.

Ive met quite a few mormons, and discussed with them often in the past, honestly, they are at thier foundation Christians, who accept the kjv version of the bible 100 percent, and they like many other denominations believe that they are the true Church. the only issue ive had in discussing with them, is they always want to talk about joseph smith and the bom, more than the Bible. i had 2 missionaries come and i allowed them to come in weekly and discuss and pray, i always spoke from the bible, and they never once said it was wrong, the talked me into reading the bom, and most of what it teaches is the same precepts Jesus taught, so i sort of Look at them as just another denomination.

they are maybe a little more fruitful in good deeds than most christians also, very helpful to others and always Kind. i think that Jesus will have people from any denomination of faith in Him, and thats the core of thier belief. I would never convert, but theres alot of denominations i wouldnt convert to :) God bless
The KJV Bible they use is a version edited by Joseph Smith, who said he believed the Bible as far as it is interpreted correctly. No prizes for guessing which interpretation he thought was correct
