Gun rights - for or against?

I would have to check out the range for myself. A lot of times the person that posts a negative review did something so blindingly stupid at the range that they were chastised loudly, and got their feelings hurt.

I tend to take bad reviews with several grains of salt...

Well you know what.. I don't know what changed but I just decided to search again right now on google and now I see at least 5 ranges within 40 miles and they all have 3.5 to 4.5 star ratings with hundreds of reviews.. Its been about a year since I last searched, so maybe I was just searching wrong..

I claim my rights to kill anyone who threatens my family. I'm totally FOR gun rights. And I live in Canada where we don't have the right to defend ourselves, beyond spitting at the assailant

A small can of wasp spray works very well as a carryable self defense device. It's not a weapon.
 
Owning and carrying firearms is a RIGHT, not a government derived privilege. You might just as well ask if someone is in favor of the right to breathe or own land.
 
I have thought about gun rights and the Second Ammendment and gun violence a lot the last few years. I absolutely believe the Second Ammendment should be upheld, and citizens have the right to arm themselves for self defense or for hunting.

HOWEVER, there is absolutely no reason for assault weapons to be owned by private citizens. No one needs an AK-47 to shoot an intruder or kill a deer. I think that it should be illegal for people to own assault weapons. Why does anyone NEED a machine gun?

If assault weapons were banned under a new law, then the people who already own them could be grandfathered in, that way the government would not be coming into people's homes, taking away their guns.

I think there could be a compromise, to get the exceptionally dangerous guns out of the public. A terrorist could kill less people with a rifle or shotgun than with an assault weapon.

What is the difference between a semiautomatic rifle and a semiautomatic assault weapon? Nothing. The "assault" rifle just looks different. It functions the same.

Then they should be banned, too. I meant traditional rifles, not something that can spray 50 bullets in a minute- like James Holmes used in the theater shooting in Colorado. I am not very familiar with guns. I know a regular rifle needs skill to shoot, as well as a regular pistol. Shotguns, not as much. I just read that James Holmes used an A-7 (I think) semiautomatic that could shoot 50 bullets a minute and requires no skill.

I consider James Holmes and the guy who did the shooting in Virginia to be terrorists (home grown, but terrorists just the same).

I wish the bill Obama proposed would have been passed, banning automatic weapons.

A semi automatic rifle can only shoot one bullet per trigger pull. A full automatic is what can shoot many bullets per trigger pull. Full automatics are already illegal except with a special license.

I am not familiar with guns. I know that any gun that can kill many people at once and requires no skill has no business being in the hands of private citizens. I just read that Holmes used a semi-automatic rifle, shot 79 people, killed 12 and injured 50. All in the space of a few minutes. It is beyond me why a private citizen needs a semi-automatic or automatic weapon.

If they require no or little skill to shoot, recreation can't be an excuse- nor hunting, nor defending yourself against an intruder. A normal shotgun is good enough for that. I amend my opinion to be that any gun that requires little or no skill and can shoot many bullets in the space of a few minutes should be banned.

Dear Lady I've had guns, well, long guns since I was tall enough to keep both ends of it off the ground..Never once has one of my firearms gotten up and killed somebody. It matters nothing at all what kind of a gun a person owns....Its the people who misuse guns that need to be banned....

How are we going to go about 'banning' people, praytell? Thank God Dylan Roof only used a handgun. If had used a semiautomatic or automatic weapon, he may have killed far more than 9. The Orlando shooter used a semiautomatic rifle and killed 49 in the nightclub.

NO ONE should be killed by a terrorist, and it is terrible that Dylan Roof killed nine. If he used a semiautomatic, he probably would have killed way more than 9 people.

Let me see.....You ban guns, I use a bomb, you ban bombs, I buy gasoline and make Molotov cocktails, you ban gasoline, I use poison, you ban poison.......See what I mean. If I were a terrorist, which I am not, I could use anything to accomplish anything. Guns are not the problem
