Hi everyone I have been thinking about this issue recently.I have (I'm sure many if you have too). Mingled with a variety of christians over the years and I firmly belive that despite us being christians it shouldn't stop us being human. So things like having a laughter...having fun..should still be very much part of our lives despite life's hardships and growing in god ect.
However I have meet over the years christians who seem to lack a sense of humour (and I'm not refering to their natural temperament as we are all different)...due to believing that it's fleshly and can lead to sinful things. Some guys I have meet often seek to be very preachy about the bible in normal social situations almost like a mini sermon or bible study (which is fine yet sometimes they often seem to lack social skills).

so I just want to get your views on this really?Having a sense of humour isn't a sin however it can become sinful so there's natural wisdom to be used and sensitivity regarding other peoples feelings ect.We live in a world that often use humour to belittle and abuses others all in the name of having a laugh ect which is totally wrong.Name calling evil play on words ect have no place among gods people yet having a good ole laugh..fun and joking about surely has a place in our lives.

Even many single christian want a partner to have a sense of humour as well as married couples.Naturally each of us have different levels of humour yet nevertheless....do you think it's important to have a sense of humour??

Thought to put the thought out there!!

Hi yes I know that for sure and I think it's almost like a medicine that sweetens the soul..(at the right time of course). It's just like salt adding flavour to cooked food....like experiencing tasting a lovely thick hot bowl of soup on a cold winters day!!!
all goodness!!!

Laughter is the best medicine. Of course it's important. God made us in His image, so I believe He has a sense of humor as well.

Yes, OP, very few "Religious People" have a sense of humor. Most Christians, however, do.

Laughter is good, but to me can not be forced. If someone does not laugh, I don't seek out ways to do it. In my past, I use to go to extremes to get someone to smile, and laugh, but sometimes it led me to sin...because the only way they did smile, was to joke about sin. They would laugh, but actually I felt bad inside.

hi yes your dead right that is a very subtle trap of the enemie to tempt you to get a reaction out of someone by saying something inappropriate.Especially when around non christians at times who sense of humour can be the complete opposite of your own..as well as another christian who may not find you funny..whereas another christian will.

So while a sense of humour is a good thing..others may not react or even share in your level of humour at times but this doesn't reflect on you.if you gotta sense of humour then you have it..it is there..and I am sure with others who you know you can enjoy a good ole giggle.

yes I'm afraid that happens sometimes because their perspective on life is rooted in all kinds of distorted doctrines and ther is a lot of fear sometimes and many aren't free to be themselves.

Yes most definatley.
As I said previously humour isn't a sin Initself!!
It can (as most thing can) be corrupted by sin..yes in Christ god doesn't want us to loose our humanistic qualities despite being saved by him.we are not under law..were under grace!!(praise god for our freedom in Christ)

Was thinking. Was almost going to say I wouldn't be a Christian if I didn't have a sense of humour... But it reads wrong on its own.
I mean... A sense of humour can bring us through the tough times. God has a sense of humour. He has passed it onto us.
Sometimes serious people are hilarious!

Yes there are..there are things in life that are funny and there are people that are funny!!
this is EVEN funnier;there are things in life that people find funny that aren't really funny (those who mock/abuse others)
There are people in life who think they are funny but aren't really funny..lol(those who promote evil humour)

...not that's what I call FUNNY!!!

Well, no, people who enjoy mocking others aren't funny.

The Lord must have a good sense of humor since he created a world that has lots of humor.

Self deprecatory humor is the best. Self defecatory humor is funny, unless the person can not help it- then it is not so funny.

yes it it can be good.most of us have one it at some point.

yet if a person can't help laughing at themselves/putting themselves down (hidden by humour) often they actually do see themselves at a joke and are internally suffering from low self esteeme which manifest as laughing at themselves.

well it is an important question because it is written in the bible that"kidders" will share the second death, but this is referring to people who actually don't take life seriously or worse yet make a mockery of the bible,so I'm glad you brought this up,because there is quite a difference between telling a few silly harmless jokes or acting as if you don't take life seriously and actually making hurtful and mocking jokes about anyone or the bible,or not taking your life seriously,it's good to have restraint.
