I appreciate your quick wit :)... but it is also very profound ....

There is no peace in a works based salvation...if one takes their eternal destiny seriously (which I did even when I was catholic) it is quite torturous to worry if you will ever measure.

I am still so thankful to the man that led me to the Lord and having been set free ....I will stay free indeed.
That's what is sad. I labored under this too in the first so many years of my walk. Am sure this is why we are so adamant about grace.

those that put on their ignore button are those whose spirits are being seared by the word like a hot branding iron. whose hearts have hardened to the truth. I find every post worth responding to regardless of how lame it sounds., but i search the scriptures to see if what they are saying is true, then i respond with the word to back me up.

Hi Rosemary!

Keep in mind you cannot work out something you do not already possess.

Look at the context in the next verse: "for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure." That is the evidence of your conversion, God working in you to follow Him, to will to follow Him and to do for Him. By these things we can know that we are saved, when we desire to work for God and do His will.

Note as well Jesus in Matthew 7:21 concerning those who are saved are the ones who do God's will, all due to God within them of course, as we see here in Philippians.

So, work out that process of salvation, employ yourself in the salvation that God is working within you. The next verse tells us to do these things without grumbling (which at times believers do, in our flesh).

So he is not telling them to work for their salvation, but to employ themselves in the working of God through them in their salvation which they possess.
Thank you all for explaining this to me...I can now see the freedom of what it means to be in Christ...Don`t get me wrong, i know i am saved by Grace through Faith:) but when i come across Scripture like that if i do not understand it then it can make me wobble just a little bit:rolleyes: I do know also that we do good works for God as we must obey, but these good deeds are what He calls us to do, the Holy Spirit is working in me, through me and go and do :)...Thank you once again for reply's, i guess the words fear and trembling can make one stop with fear and trembling , such scary words if they are not for a warning, and i don`t read greek or anything else, i just read straight from my Bible as it is written...xox...

People lose their salvation, but no one loses His salvation.

Note Psalm 51:12 -- Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. :)

This is the reason the word of God is weak and of no effect to people, . because of silly remarks and gestures. laugh on, you workers of iniquity.

You are a real treasure Joe.
thanks for the kind words,despite standing firm for God,I consider other people's outlooks too,whether they be right or wrong,or complete fabrications,or simply too quickly concluded,I keep to being unjudgemental as possible,because I've been through "Alot" in the past and can often keep in mind that everyone has been "taught" different or in my case,force fed religious beliefs,so I try not to offend others(though sometimes when speaking biblically some things are possibly offensive to others,no matter in what way you speak of the bible)
I now am a firm believer of God of my own individual choice and am now beyond just being a mere believer,I'm living God's word,allowing God to use me as he sees fit,knowing full well that the path I have chosen with God has no turning back from,I am God's entirely,I may have a will of my own but now I put his will above my own,and am fearful of him only,I have had my fill of this world,now my time left is for God,the only possible thing that I may have in time is a wife and child,if these are not in my path with God then I accept that I face judgement day being not married and with no loss of virginity,and that I am content with of a certainty.

What was really weak are two things:

1) Your taking Scripture out of context and applying it to those who biblically ignore those who sow discord, Romans 16:17 (which seems to be applicable to your behavior on here) and falsely accusing them of having a seared conscience for following Scripture;

2) You calling others workers of iniquity as though you are the judge and Christ.

Therefore we conclude a man is justified by faith without the works of the law..............

CONTEXT!!!!!!!!
Granted, the works of the law minus faith means nothing. We can work all day digging a hole, but if there is no purpose behind the actions it means literally nothing.

"Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them." (Isaiah 1:14)

The faith chapter Hebrews 11. Think again and take Moses into consideration since he was the mouthpiece of the law.
verse 28 "Through faith he (Moses) kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn (of Egypt) should touch them.

Passover is the works of the law. Faith comes first and then the rest of God's will falls into place due to desire... Spirit driven.

Some people who have not been born again, just learn about the gospel of Jesus Christ,but do not and will not live it as other do.. It is not in their hearts to live it.These are the ones when they depart this earth will lift up their eyes in hell.

Those who are born again are sealed by the Holy Spirit, they cannot end up in hell.

Hi all...Why do you think the Bible says 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure...It makes me ask myself, what would happen if i did not work out my own salvation with trembling and fear, it kind of feels like a warning to me, can someone help explain it to me please and thank you...xox...

Hi Rosemary,
I love your name by the way. I have a rosemary plant in my garden and will think of you fondly when I water it. And I love the aroma of the plant - it's a sweet smelling aroma. :)

Here's the reference to Philippians. I like to read before and after the scriptures in question because it always helps to understand and know the context for the purpose of interpretation.

Philippians 2:1-18

1. Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion,
2. make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.
3. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;
4. do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.
5. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,
6. who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7. but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.
8. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
9. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,
10. so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11. and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
12. So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling;
13. for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
14. Do all things without grumbling or disputing;
15. so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world,
16. holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.

God is at work in us to will to obey to want to obey.......if we don't want to obey we must ask if God is at work in us. And it's to bring pleasure to our Lord.

Isn't that so exciting and so beautiful....... that through obedience we bring pleasure to the Lord. So because God is at work in us, we are to take great care to take His working in us to fruition through our obedience.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.........that wisdom produces the obedience we're called to. It's showing God at work and us at work together in cooperation with God empowering grace that cause us to work.One of the reasons I wanted to give context is because there's a comparison going on here.

Just as Jesus obeyed to the point of death, that's how important it is for us to obey as well. We are to have the same attitude as that of our Lord Jesus.Even though Jesus was equal to God for He is God, He emptied Himself of that fact and humbled Himself to the extreme. He, being God came to be treated shamefully.

He, being God was beaten and tortured and spat on and ridiculed.....called a liar, a fake a charlatan and etc. He continued to remain humble and obedient to the point of death. He took everything upon Him for our sakes. He endured the most excruciating pain and ridicule a person could experience for us.........for love and to reunite us with our Heavenly Father.

So if Jesus did that for us, what sort of persons should we be?
vs 3 ~ We're not to live selfishly......we're to think of others higher than ourselves, as more important. vs 4 ~ We are not too look only to our own interests, but also to the interest of others.
vs 5-8 ~ We are to live a life of sacrifice - to humble ourselves to the point of death, for our family in the Lord and for our enemy.

So for that very reason we are to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, because it's God at work in us to empower us to desire His will and not our own and therefore we will be obedient because He says His grace is at work to empower us to do so.

So because of that Paul says we can ...
vs 14 ~ Do all things without grumbling and complainingSo that ...
vs 15 ~ We will prove that we are innocent children of God, blameless and above reproach as we shine brightly in this crooked and perverse world.

So we can be obedient children because it's God at work in us. His work is empowering grace that works within us to pursue His will and His pleasure which if (our work) for us to obey.

He has given us everything for life and godliness through the true knowledge of God and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He's too wonderful - wondrous when we consider all He has done for us and continues to do! Glory Hallelujah!!! :)

Maybe this? Matthew 23:14 - "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense you make long prayers; therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
This would be a great Scripture to discuss.

Widows' houses: those who can barely take care of themselves? Reminds me of James discussing true religion is taking care of orphans and widows (while remaining unstained from the world).

How do you think they were devouring widows' houses? Were they asking for money?
