We don't wrestle against demons. That isn't our job description. God has angels for the actual battle.

We fight against the lies they spread. The confusion demons and sin causes to us and the world around us.

I believe it means that our fight is not with other people but the spiritual lies and chains that bind them and keep them from knowing God and His love, mercy and grace.

I personally believe literal and the Book of Daniel tells us how Michael had to wrestle with the prince of Persia before he could get there to give Daniel his answer to his prayer.

spiritual warfare sister. we have the armor offered to us and the battle plan laid before us. we cant as some actually do, take words from paul such as " i beat my body and make it my slave" and then actually think we need to beat ourselves as the old time Monks and sects would literally beat themselves with whips for penance. or another example when Paul says " crucify the flesh" this isnt to mean we need to be crucified physically.

Paul says this

1 corinthians 2:But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 11For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 12Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.14But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

it not figurative or anything spirit is very real, the Knowledge in the Bible is spirit and Life. Paul is saying there that were not fighting against our bodies, but against the spriritual forces of evil. they work through Our minds, if an evil spirit can corrupt our Mind and Hearts, Our actions will follow that corruption, So does Gods Spirit work in Our Minds and Hearts, if we follow the Spirit of God and the Knowledge in His word the spiritual Knowledge the truth, our minds will be healed from corruption and remade in righteousness. spirit is Knowledge.

***we wrestle and resist in prayer and faith against the works of darkness---this is not figurative, but rather a real battle where our faith can bring down evil----we can pray---"bring down the works of darkness" in a given area---example---this upcoming Halloween season will have many evil things happening---we can pray that these deeds of darkness will be brought down---I recommend a book talking about defeating darkness---Satan's Underground by Lauren Stratford---Grace and Peace...

For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ (2 Cor 10:3-5)

where does this fit, do you think?

Satan and his evil angels (as well as demons) are opposed to Christians and Christianity and attack (1) the Bible, (2) the Gospel, (3) churches and (4) individual Christians. So there is nothing figurative about this. These attacks can take various forms including loss of finances, health, loved ones, and even life. False Christs, false apostles, false prophets, false Christians, false gospels, false bibles are all a part of this battle. Deceit is the primary weapon and intimidation is the secondary weapon.

The Bible says that we are to stand and fight this spiritual battle having on the whole armor of God, we are to resist the devil and he will flee from us, and we are to expose the works of darkness rather than have fellowship with them. There has been a battle between Light and Darkness ever since the Adversary -- Satan -- opposed God and was cast out of God's Heaven.

The Christian's mind is the target of Satan, and if he can succeed in planting doubts, fears, and false doctrines into our minds, he has succeeded. I believe "arguments and lofty opinions" refers to the attacks of "scholars" on the Bible and Bible truth (including the Gospel). Ever since the 18th century so-called Christian scholars have been attacking the Bible and the doctrines of Christianity. False Christianity is also a major attack against the knowledge of God.

I take it to mean we are not at war against people or heretics to kill them, but we are at war with words & principles in keeping the faith which is the good fight.

John 16:1These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. [SUP]2 [/SUP]They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. [SUP]3 [/SUP]And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

Titus 3:[SUP]9 [/SUP]But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. [SUP]10 [/SUP]A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; [SUP]11 [/SUP]Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.

2 Thessalonians 3:1Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: [SUP]2 [/SUP]And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. [SUP]3 [/SUP]But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. [SUP]4 [/SUP]And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you. [SUP]5 [/SUP]And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ. [SUP]6 [/SUP]Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. [SUP]7 [/SUP]For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;.....[SUP]14 [/SUP]And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. [SUP]15 [/SUP]Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

Matthew 18:[SUP]14 [/SUP]Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish. [SUP]15 [/SUP]Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. [SUP]16 [/SUP]But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. [SUP]17 [/SUP]And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.

Sometime in church history, saved believers had killed heretics, but nowhere in the scripture of the N.T. has taught that.

I would say its we wrestle against lying spirits, called demons not seen, who need an outward appearance to work in like the example of Peter in Mathew 16..who forbid Christ from do the work he came to do. It apposes walking by faith in respect to another unseen Spirit, as the same spirit of faith according as it is written .

The new testament refers to it.

Ouch. I'm a Pentecostal, and that offends me. Maybe you could use some softer language instead of encouraging Pentecostal enemies to come out of the woodwork, please?

Eph 6:13-18
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
KJV

The context of these verses is spiritual warfare.

the fiery darts of the wicked are doubt guilt, etc. by which Satan and those who serve him try to undermine our faith and our service of the Lord. Each piece of our spiritual armor is an aspect or attribute of what the Holy Spirit does in our lives as He indwells us.

......what does this verse mean....? Does it mean that we literally wrestle against demons or is it figurative language?
Eph 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Eph 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

It means that the people who will give us trouble,it is not the flesh and blood that we contend with, but they are being influenced by spiritual wickedness in high places, which it mainly means people of power in big groups that go against the saints, such as governments that influence a great deal over people, and can persecute the saints, and try to pervert Christianity with immorality, and go against it.

Which tells us that the governments, and nations, and religions, and such big groups, like the new age movement,Freemasonry, and such, that go against Christianity, and the truth of it,that it is not flesh and blood influencing them, but it is spiritual wickedness in high places, the devils.

And they can embrace the Bible, but still it can still be influenced by the devil of their belief of the Bible, and go against the truth of the Bible, like the new age movement that will occur in the latter times, which their interpretation of the Bible is of seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils, which is based on spiritual evolution through nature, and exalts people.

And any group that does not hold the Bible in the truth that is based of of nature worship.

America allows Christianity, but they also allow all false religions to be practiced there, and immorality, and fleshy pleasures, and worldliness, and the occult, and the pursuit of money, and material things, that can be a stumbling block to many people.

And some nations do not tolerate Christianity at all, whether the truth of it,or pervert if from the truth.

King Nebuchadnezzar acknowledged the God of Israel, but he was a heathen king that believed in other gods, and occult practices.

Any big group that has influence over people that is against Christianity,or embrace it but have falsehood concerning it,making it as one religion of many religions that are valid,or an occult interpretation of it,or some serious misinterpretations of the Bible, and then go against the truth of the Bible,it is not flesh and blood that we contend with in their pursuit of them going against the Bible,or going against the truth of it,but it is the devils stirring them up to go against the truth.

When Satan is bound in the bottomless pit for 1000 years there is peace on earth, and people are not fighting with each other, for without Satan in the picture the people are not stirred up to act so crazy.

There are people that want the occult to be a worldwide thing among all nations, and to do away with religion that exalts a higher power.

And they are kicking it up in American society.

Look at a lot of music videos that are newer compared to years ago,as they go from being the good person,to the bad person, and the occult symbolism in their videos, and them making a transformation to the occult world, for many are given over to the occult.

Taylor Swift on a dark night,as she emerges from the grave, and pops up from the earth, and she is lying in the grave all decked out in white, like an innocent person, but the mud covered Taylor Swift is burying her,and then shows her later in the video sitting decked out in red, with a cup in her hand as if to represent Mystery Babylon.

Britney Spear with her song Slumber Party, which happens at night in darkness, which is about secret societies, and the parties they have, and she crawls on her hands and knees across a table towards what looks like man representing Lucifer with a lightening bolt across his left eye.

And Beyonce that has a video where she is in a building, and sinking in water along with the Bible, and then she emerges from the door of the building,as the water rushes out, which appears to symbolize her transformation to the occult, and inciting a riot, and smashing cop cars, and a video of people worshipping her,and bowing down to her, which she says a spiritual entity,Sasha Fierce, takes over her when she is on stage, and many videos where they display the transformation to the occult, and by way of getting rid of their old self, good,to the bad,new self.

These are only a few examples of how the occult world is blatantly coming out more to influence people to embrace it,for the coming beast kingdom is based on the occult.

The purpose of celebrities for a lot of them is to pervert the people to be immoral, perverted, and immoral, although many may think it is not the intention, and reality for the good, but that is the intention of those in power who want an occult world.

That is why they are acting so weird, especially musicians, because they are given over to the occult world, and many are intentionally following the occult plan of the elites, and given over to the age movement, and the occult.

And some have a meltdown as they might struggle between the 2 personalities, but they cannot seem to break free, such as Britney Spears, and Kanye West as he went on a rant in one of his concerts, and said he has truth to tell the people, that could cost him his career, and his life, and then had a breakdown.

And Katy Perry that cut her hair, and said she did not want to be Katy Perry anymore, who shows occult symbolism, which appears that she was making a move out of it,but can she do it all the way,for she has a video called wide awake, where she is confronted with herself as an innocent little girl, and the little girl leads her in a wheelchair,as Katy holds a fruit in her hand, and the little girl is confronted with 2 men with heads with horns on them,as if to represent the occult, and the little girl stomps her foot down, and takes them out of the way,and then they exist a door, where it is a quiet, nice neighborhood, and Katy is dressed nice, and innocent,as if she broke free from the occult, and back to her innocent self.

For she sang in the song if I knew then what I know now,I wouldn't have dived in,wouldn't have bowed down, and that she is not blind anymore.

But the elitists will not let her go,and Satan will put pressure on her to stay in the occult, and that is why some when they embrace the occult will struggle until it causes a breakdown, but they cannot seem to break free.

And that is why they get the fame and fortune,by complying with the elite, and the occult, and many say they sold their soul to the devil, and look how music was kind of innocent, except the sex part, now the videos are about the occult, and weird, and self exaltation among many of them.

That lets us know that they are kicking up the influence on American society with the occult, and more immorality, and self exaltation, for that is what the new age movement is about, which is the future for this sinful world.

So, why do you think the Apostle Paul chooses the word " wrestle"? What is the significance of this word?

combat. war. fight. battle. struggle.

this alone should let believers understand that we are indeed at war with evil that it is seeking to overcome us, its all in the Mind thats the battle field. evil works through our minds Just as satan attacked eves Mind twisting Her thoughts corrupting Her belief in what God had said. its why people should recognize the fallacy of theres nothing for us to do, the Bible makes really clear were at war, and satan is seeking to devour whom He may, yet were armed with what we need for the fight

ephesians 6 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

even Jesus when tempted, used Gods Word to strike a blow to satan, it is written...it is written...it is written...and the devil left Him. clearly we are at war, which should shine a light on the doctrine that explains How nothing is required of us, in fact were soldiers under a Command and are called to fight in the things of God. the battle wages on, and many refuse to even acknowledge they themselves are in a war for thier soul. you have Lost already if a person refuses to acknowledge they are in a struggle

So, why do you think the Apostle Paul chooses the word " wrestle"? What is the significance of this word?
Wrestlers wrestle with their opponents in order to subdue them. So we wrestle with evil forces daily for the same reason, and use the the Sword of the Spirit (the Word of God) as our offensive weapon and the Shield of Faith as our defensive weapon. There is no arguing with Scripture, therefore we must use Scripture in every issue. There is also no arguing with unshakeable faith in God, in Christ, and in the Bible.

Ad because the Bible is the Sword of the Spirit, Satan has made sure that modern Christians will always be i doubt about the true Word of God. Hence all the critics, their critical editions, and their corrupt modern versions which need to be updated on a regular basis. People can mock all they want about "KJV-Only" but there is no denying that this was the Sword of the Spirit for English speakers for over 300 years, and continues to be the true Bible for many. Even movie makers (who are by no means Christian) will quote from the KJV when they quote Scripture.
