I think, therefore I am.

As far as your resume goes, I would say I am a self starter, (meaning people don’t have to tell me every little thing to do- this is great, because many millenials are so gormless, they have to be directed to do every little thing. Employers actually have complained about this trait in millenial employees) I am cooperative, and I am a trouble shooter.

If you pay attention to detail, you can say that. I don’t, so I didn’t say that about myself.

Is this for a job?

I like to be around people and sometimes I don't want to be around people.

"Peel back all of the laughter and smiling
Let your emotions have the day off
So you can see what's underneath it all
Take away the people, the ones you depend on
Remove your successes and the empires you've built
Swallow your pride and tear down the walls
And reality will unfold and the truth is told

When no one is watching
It's just you and the wind
When the masquerades are over
Who are you then
Take a look inside your heart
Cause whatever remains is
Who you really are"
~Ronnie Freeman

"Who are you" can be a scary question, because a lot of people don't know who they are, and a good few of them use the wrong measurement to determine who they are. To increase who they think they are, or avoid thinking about who they are, people will:
Do anything to advance their careers;
Do anything to fill every waking moment with entertainment;
Do anything to find a spouse to give them some identity;
Pickle themselves in alcohol or drugs to chase the question away;
Or sometimes even kill themselves when they realize they have no idea who they are or why they should be here. No I'm not being facetious.

As the song says, when you take away what you have done, who you know, all the social trappings and achievements... what remains is who you are.

So who are you?
Minus the I'm-going-to-kill-myself part of this, this is the exact problem I have. Agents want to know what you do for a living and who your family is. (As in "I'm a wife," "I'm a mother," or "I'm single.") They'll even take what your future goal is. (I'm going to school to become _____.)

What they don't want is who I am. I did have jobs and dreams, but then I became disabled and had to learn to accept reality. Reality is this sentences about me:
I belong to the Lord God -- to love and to mold, to work and to serve, and mostly to glorify him.

I cannot gauge who I am by what I do, because the standard is what we do to make money. I do squat to make money. And I'd go with hobbies, but my hobbies are coming here, writing (and, again, usually teddy bear stories, which is why I'm looking for an agent), spending time with hubby, spending time with the Lord, and gardening, if it's summertime, and learning new things, (like how to write a novel, then how to query it, etc., and I also like to keep up on old things, like marketing. I just like marketing. Serves me no purpose for now, but I just like marketing. lol) And my "work" is household chores.

All in all, it sounds like a very boring life, and yet it is quite enjoyable, because I am the Lord's child.

BUT, an agent doesn't want to hear that. They want to know what I "do" and what my goals are. And the weird part is getting an agent rather points to what my goal is, as far as they see it.

(And, yeah. I did notice you didn't tell who you are.)

Oh, yeah.

I blog and I either write fanfic on my days off or read and explore ways to further my personal development.
...who could use a few more days off here and there. :)

If I'm remembering answers correctly, so far you and Auntie are the only ones who can show what you do/who you are without hinting at family ties or jobs.
(And, I'm not entirely sure Auntie counts, since her user name includes a family tie. lol Just kidding.)

I'm learning how to sleep longer, learning how to take things easier, learning that it is o.k. to pay someone to clean house for me.
How does one learn to sleep longer? My sheets are a wreak because I determined to sleep longer today.

Who am I? Yea but is that the question?
To the original poster: can you list the enduring traits you possess? Hard working , attention to detail, calmly point out an error and graciously take negative feedback (provided it's not an in your face yelling ;) ) Those shorten descriptors could help.
Since I wasn't looking for traits, but looking for visible describers, I don't see the purpose of listing my traits. (Oddly enough, I can, and "graciously" would never end up on my list, but, alas... lol)

or friends or God? passionate? i enjoy things, but am really only passionate about those things (persons).

must be my cold, hard heart. :rolleyes:
Nah, you truly are where you're supposed to be and passionate about the important things -- the Lord, family and friends. That isn't wrong, cold, or hard. We already know our purpose in the Lord.

The odd part is that just doesn't make any kind of sense to the world. I even would guess the world can see a nude descending staircase in that painting, but we can't.

And trying to describe me in one sentence to someone in the world has been canoodling in the back of my brain for over a week and still can't do it.

Nope. Not supposed to be a resume, nor is it about a job. I'm trying to get a novel published, so I'm looking at a British agent, (this time.) And agents tend to want to know the author's bio, even if I'm not yet an author, so have sold nothing, and I've got no relevant writing credentials. I'm just supposed to tell him who I am, but since I don't work to make money, and I'm not raising kids, what usually counts as "about you" doesn't work for me.

This really is about seeing how people show who they are without mentioning how they make money or who their family is. We really have cut down who we are by making it just about those two things.

You're not the first to think this is about what to fill on a resume, but it's not about getting a job. It's who are you as a person and showing that by what you do not related to job or family.

Strange that it keeps coming down to how to fill a resume, considering if it was a resume, I could do that. I used to write resumes and cover letters for money. lol

Ah! I understand. I’m Galatea, by the way.

In your case, I’d say “I love spending time making up stories about my stuffed friends, gardening, wearing overalls, and spending time with my beloved husband, John.” Authors’ bios often include information about their families.

Twice, because I didn't know you were Gal, and... perfect! I think you just wrote my author bio!

Lol, it is alright. I embarrassed myself, so deleted my account. What do I do, but start making posts to embarass myself again!

I’m glad I could help you with your bio.

I didn't know you wanted to know who I am. I thought this was about who you are. And all the restrictions you listed on the answer seemed to fit right in with the song I quoted, so I posted it.

But if you want to know... I'm a guy who makes sourdough bread, likes to talk about existential issues and has a lively sense of humor and a keen eye to help people if they need help and I can give it.

One sentence, nothing about family, nothing about job, etc, etc.

Good news is when we embarrass ourselves everyone else is so busy thinking about themselves that they forget all about what you did in short time.

Just something to consider the next time, since I have yet figured out how not to embarrass myself. lol

And, I finally did come up with the sentence. Have to figure out if it's worded right later on, so thank you.

Oh, how easily you did that. I'm truly impressed.

Did you make enough bread for the holidays yet?

If you're impressed does that mean I get the job? :D :D :D

And I have enough bread, but only just barely. I will need to bake some bread for my own use just as soon as the holidays are over.

I've been telling myself it's o.k. to stay in bed and relax that it's o.k. to turn over and go back to sleep. I'm more relaxed since married to Tourist with him helping to share the load of responsibilities. I can relax more. It's nice and the fact I'm getting older and my body won't allow me to do the things I used to do in the quantity of work I used to do. I'm learning how to do these things.
