Prosperity preaching Pastor prosecuted, prisoned

So does the fact that John MacArthur makes over $1 Million a year in just church salary make the calvies here puke, or do they give him a pass because he got it honestly and not by fleecing his flock.

MacArthur makes far too much money for a Pastor himself, so spare us all the calvie better than thou selective outrage.

I would imagine a lot of Pastors are paid through their church. There's nothing wrong with that, provided that pastor does his job of studying the word, visting the sick, &c. My pastor has to work as our church is not big enough to have him on salary. He knows its hard to visit sick members, truly study the word, when he has a job.

But prosperity teachings teach if you sow a seed into God's kingdom(IOW invest), you will receive a four-fold harvest. That's not the biblical definition of giving. When you give, its considered a gift. A gift is freely given, with no strings attached, not expecting anything in return. Seed sowing is not a biblical doctrine at all.

I have no problem with paid Pastors. Its hard to devote oneself to the word, the congregants, visiting the sick, if one is bi-vocational. But prosperity preachers preach you sow a seed to get a harvest. That's investing, not freely giving. If you give $ only to look for a four-fold harvest, you've sowed, not out of the goodness of your heart, but looking for a return. You've invested your $, not given it.

I dislike the prosperity gospel more than anyone and I do thank you for posting the story. I see where you are coming from, but MacArthur is completely over paid. Notice I said that was just his church Salary, MacArthur himself has said he would never release his own personal tax return and that is something many of the Prosperity con men have done. MacArthur said, yeah releasing them does not prove anything. Yes, John Mac it does, because it is obvious you have something to hide.

Our pastors are paid by the church. We have trustees that set payments of salary and expenses.
Expenses are accountable.

I have one thing agaisnt John MacArthur, he is a blasphemer of the Holy Ghost. That is my opinion, which is rooted and grounded in scripture.

He's had a tremendous impact on the hispanic community, bringing them out of Roman Catholicism to the truth of Christ.

Yeah and another top rated sales man, Lee Iacocca, had a tremendous impact on select people groups as well, what exactly is your point?

I've heard some tough stories about Joel Osteen.....even my own pastor has claimed watching his sermons on television, and how uncomfortable he was that Osteen always seem to relate to finances more than he would for Christ. I can honestly say my pastor only earns about 4,000 a month for being a pastor, and he's perfectly happy with that. He even says it's more than he deserves.....that's power of Holy Spirit right there.

Look, this about prosperity teachings, not Dr. John MacArthur. My pastor, who is not a Calvinist, thought the pastor should be paid the salary of the average member of the church he pastors. If the average salary of a church is $500,000 then he should be paid that. That sounds reasonable.

But let's not hijack this thread please.

The record is clear, John MacArthur makes around 250K from his church. That is a well known fact.

As I said, your hatred for brothers is sad and you're filled with slander. For the record I love his book Charismatic Chaos and Strange Fire. I also agree with them both. They are well documented.

Joel Osteen wasn't even in the ministry when his dad died. They put him in as pastor anyways.

Honestly, I've watched quite a few of Billy Grahams sermons, and I never once heard him really go on about being wealthy and rich beyond all comprehension except rich in the Holy Spirit......that's pretty awesome in my book.

I was asking about Dr. MacArthur, not Billy Graham. Beastslayer is saying Dr. MacArthur is in that camp, so I asked him if he had any sermons to post.
