On my way home tonight I was driving on an old country road (I didn't want to get pulled over due to a headlight being out) I was going up an incline....being in 5th gear, my clutch goes out. I find myself going backwards and my emergency brake doesn't work to stop. I was outside in the freezing cold for three hours with no cell service. Every horror movie raced through my head. Anyone else have a terrifying story that happened to them to share?

I've never been terrified.

You should get a new car.

Ok. My mother use to ride the clutch, wore out clutch disc often. Clutch disc generally don't wear out otherwise. Could have weak springs in the pressure plate.

What make and model of car is it?

On the way home from a play in downtown Minneapolis a bunch of teens, all from the same family, were in my van. While we were at the play, it had snowed.

We were on the third freeway entrance lane up from the freeway far below. I did not know they had not salted the lane, until I turned the wheel (on a gentle turn), and the van went straight. The van came to the edge, then just gently slid down . . . . on its side! . . . onto the next freeway entrance below, where it lay on its side. Fortunately, the lane was empty.

I panicked, not knowing who was hurt, so I stood up and yelled, "FIRE! EVERYBODY OUT!" Everyone unbuckled and got out, and the only one who was hurt was one whose ring scraped her other finger.

That was my worst.

I have never really had any terrifying experiences. Yet. So far, so good.

I think the worst day of my life was when I found out my parents were splitting. The whole framework of my world cracked and fell apart. That wasn't really terrifying though.

Nah....it's a good car. It just needs a new clutch :)

In such situations, always DOWNSHIFT a manual transmission! A clutch that slips in 5th gear will slip LESS in 4th gear, even less in 3rd gear, and probably won't slip AT ALL in 1st gear!

Doesn't compute.
If you lost the clutch the car would be
stuck in gear and unable to roll backwards.
Sounds more like a broken cv axle or input shaft.
And don't drive uphill in 5th.
Bad bad bad for the engine.

Clutches slip when the lining has been burned off.

I can't afford one :p

Truthfully. Replacing a clutch is nothing....its considered wear and tear on a vehicle...plus I love Honda's especially mine

You really can't tell a story well. You forgot to end it. You left me on "going backwards and my emergency brake doesn't work to stop."

Now, obviously, you survived, but what happened next?
