Why do you think tongues are a rejection of knowledge? The Spirit teaches us his way.

The claim is made that the speaker does not know what they are saying. Therefore there is no knowledge present. NT tongues the speaker knows the language they speak but the hearers do not know which is why an interpreter is required. There is no prayer language as some here wish to assert. Jesus did not teach any prayer language only the heart attitude that needs to be present when we pray.

Teaching of the Holy Spirit will be in complete accordance with the scripture.

our spiritual language is most important in warfare. The believer who is going from glory to glory will be attacked from the enemy in whatever way he can. Even physically and if one is a new believer, at this time, may not yet be grounded in truth. There's a time that will come when the believer knows the victory of Jesus, and how much we are placed in Him, then Satan has lost his advantage and won't dare touch. But, until then tongues is a great tool of weaponry.

I really wish you would stop your tirade against what God gives to the body. You are fighting against him in doing this.

We put down doubts that the enemy throws at us, but also ward off wrong application of the word used with wrong motives. Plus His name works too. I have actually sensed the devil run with the simple words, you are a liar and the father of lies.

But, we aren't to worship the written word. It's the Word from His mouth that is the saber sword directly from Holy Spirit. The Spirit and the Word agree. We need both Roger.

I believe tongues are still for today.
I do not have that gift, my wife has it.
When I'm stuck in prayer and don't know how to pray or what to pray I just sit silently and say "God got no idea what to pray, so I will sit here, all I can offer up is I lift this person up to you"

That is so important Bill because when you do that you are standing in the gap for someone. You are lifting that person up to God & you might be the only one. We can't possibly understand everyone else's problems or needs can we? But The Lord does.
Obviously using tongues isn't as important as simply getting a prayer covering over that person.

Tongues is our prayer language.
The Holy Spirit prays on our behalf the whole truth and nothing
but the truth. There are no secret sins, no unconfessed sins.
Paul wonderfully writes of though I speak in the tongues of
men and of angels ...
and this is what tongues is all about - a spiritual language that
transcends our human limitations and we communicate with
God spirit to Spirit.
Anything else is second best.

I am surprized that you may have confusion over
praying in tongues and its purpose.
It is important to be grounded with other sensible saints
who have knowledge and understanding on Pentecostal
worship.

That is just how the gifts work my friend and is also how acts of faith work as well, we don't choose when we act or are used in our gifts it is as everything else is in his timing. A lot of times we don't even realize we are walking in the gifts I know I can say that for sure but it just flows it's as if by instinct. If one tries to use the gifts on their own accord it won't work because it isn't by god's leading or his spirit but our own leading and spirit.

heard 120 people inside an upper room all speaking in tongues
at the same time - "And how hear we every man in our own tongue,
wherein we were born?" Acts 2:8

How did a multitude of thousands hear 120 persons speaking in tongues
all at the same time distinctly in their own languages (17 in all)?
Because this was the first miracle of the gift of interpretation.

Because what is taught as tongues in the modern NT church does not align with scripture.

Tongues are a sign to Jews not for Gentiles. Tongues foretell impending judgment to Israel. Every time tongues appear in the NT God is telling Israel that they are being judged for rejecting their Messiah.

Why are so many Christians hostile about speaking in tongues?
It's a gift from The Holy Spirit and it's Biblical.

Why? I suppose because of the teaching. I dont know any church before 1900 which taught that speaking in tongues is the sign that somebody has received the baptism with the Holy Spirit. Almost all penecostals came up orign from
The azusa street revival. And I found that " spiritfilled" charismatics accept the teaching from the rcc church.
These facts hold me away to believe that speaking in tongues as it is taught is right and for today followers of Christ.
