It's usually the first step when you're being invaded.

Partially. That wall should have been started within weeks of Trump being officially declared President. With the resources at his disposal (personally) he could have started having prototypes prepared while campaigning, and accessed funds already allocated to useless projects to START building that wall with input from Army engineers and security experts (especially from Israel). He did not need to go to Congress at all, neither did he need to expose the nature of the wall to the whole world. As a national security issue, this was handled very poorly. He should have also put Islamist Trudeau on notice.

Nope. It won't solve the problem on its own.

I'm of a divided mind. On one hand, I despise military intervention. On the other hand, parts of the border are insane.

We have to think seriously about incentives if we're ever going to restore the Rule of Law in immigration.

I think it is an excellent idea....we have national guard and army reserve and marine reserve that rotate through service...let them patrol the border and keep most drugs and illegal aliens out....they are already getting paid and let them build the wall...solves the labor issue......I for one am tired of illegal aliens and immigrants getting help while we have so many Americans and vets that need assistance.....it really fires me up....

No, it won't "solve" it.

It will hopefully prevent it from getting worse, until we can get some kind of foolproof restriction on our border... whether it's a wall, or machine gun towers every 200 yards... whatever. We have to stop the incursions, then figure out what kind of path to citizenship we need for the 1.8 million that Trump promised.

Actually the best cure would be instant stoppage of ANY kind of welfare handouts to non-citizens. They would leave in droves. Proven.

That's off the table now. That was an incentive to fund the wall through the budget. Since everything Trump wanted was deliberately excluded from the Omnibus Bill, that offer is now null and void.

Had the wall already been in progress, this migrant invasion may not even have got off the ground. Had the sanctuary cities been declared illegal right at the start, and all federal funds withheld, while ICE officers were deployed in strength, this whole idea of California becoming a haven for criminals and illegal aliens would have been shut down immediately. The issue is always swift and decisive action, not dithering around. And Trump should have insisted on the *nuclear option* to get the legislators to stop sabotaging his agenda.

Bingo. This is part of the reason why I don't think we need to waste money and succumb to paranoia.

Perhaps building a wall over a long period of time is tenable. But turning the border into one giant Ft. Benning would be a boondoggle and undermine our small-r republican values.

Actually the best cure would be instant stoppage of ANY kind of welfare handouts to non-citizens. They would leave in droves. Proven.

My biggest issue at present is the budget. If we keep kicking the deficit down the road, we're oatmeal.

I guess it's one of the last peaceful options we have remaining.

Great idea. Eliminate the reasons the illegal immigrants come here and reduce the amount of illegal immigration going on.

To expand on this, I know I'll sound like a broken record (I have to since no one else ever talks about it), we need to start targeting white collar criminals who hire illegal immigrants. Require them to pay back taxes of the illegal immigrants and put them in REAL prisons (no comfortable white collar prisons) for an extensive period of time for human exploitation (illegally hiring illegal immigrants and paying them pennies on the dollar for their indentured servitude).

Imagine if there was an instant stoppage of welfare to non-citizens in conjuncture with proactively going after the white collar criminals who lured them here! Trump wouldn't even have to send troops to the border if he does this.

Seems most of the people who care about the deficit are people our age... even still, they are distracted by the latest version of the Iphone or CNN/FOX News feeding them information.

The politicians in office, the middle-aged, and the senior citizens know they will be maggot food by the time the US has to face their debt demon. So while they are in office, it's "low low taxes for everyone! Who cares about our deficit, you get a bone thrown your way now!"

Even the so-called conservative movement doesn't seem to care. I think that's part of the reason why conservatively-inclined youth are jumping over to the Liberty Movement.

Millennials get a bad rap for a lot of good reasons, but we at least realize how the system is rigged in broad strokes.

Let's see... the very people who tanked the entire world's economy just 10 short years ago, have been handed the keys to the US Treasury ... I don't think anyone's going to jail over immigrants. White collar criminals are evidently immune from prosecution.

I'm all for using the military to secure the border if that's what it takes. Also for using the military to secure these sanctuary cities and arrest the mayors and police chiefs for not doing their jobs. Ridiculous allowing these illegals to enter our country, peddle their drugs and murder our citizens.
