All about gardening...

Hi all...Not to sure if i can post this in here but i was wondering how many off you enjoy getting your hands dirty in the soil ...I absolutely love gardening and houseplants...I asked the Lord last year as part of my recovery from a mental illness episode if He would give me a desire from my heart , and that was to get my garden in order , it had been neglected for many years , and as I type , my garden is coming along nicely ...

I asked the Lord to help me grow my flowers that mostly I have planted from seed , this year they are blooming , I asked Him also to send me butterflies & the bees , He has sent them to...I have a so many new plants that are flourishing , and also while I was asking the LORD for these things , He has sent beautiful Goldfinches & Bluetits , and I also have two Robins that visit , and sometimes when it is nice weather , I take my little pot of tea out with my Bible and sit as I read the Word...

I guess I just needed somewhere to express my gratitude to God for all His goodness , sometimes I am so full of thanksgiving to Him that I am overflowing but nowhere to share it as I do not have any brothers & sisters in Christ really apart from church , so that is why I have made this thread...

Also I thought if any of you out there that do like gardening or plants , do you have a plant but you have no name for it , I have this houseplant but no name , I could call it NonameMagee LOL , anyway , once I figure how to upload it Ii can show it , be back soon...xox...

When I lived on the east coast, my kids & I tended both a flower garden and a vegetable garden in our huge backyard. It was so much fun learning how to grow a variety of things.

Now that I'm in an apartment in Texas, I only have one plant in the house. I love it, too! But I take lots of pictures of flowers around the neighborhood.

Here's a cactus flower that I photographed and didn't realize I captured a bee until I enlarged the picture. LOL

When I lived on the east coast, my kids & I tended both a flower garden and a vegetable garden in our huge backyard. It was so much fun learning how to grow a variety of things.

Now that I'm in an apartment in Texas, I only have one plant in the house. I love it, too! But I take lots of pictures of flowers around the neighborhood.

Texas is known for its fields of bluebonnets in springtime. Here's a picture I found on Google of the vibrant blue flowers.

I planted my flower seeds ( with my wife's help ) 2 days ago. The veggies for the garden have been growing under lights in the basement and I will plant them when the nights get warmer.

Drives me nuts I couldn't get to play in my garden for the last couple of days. Stupid stuff like grocery shopping, baking, dealing with insurance, laundry, dishes, and stuff like that got in my way.

We had late snowstorms this year. We're not known for snow piling up in March often, but we got socked with a storm per week in March and early April, so everything is behind schedule coming out this year. Hubby is trying to convince me the roses didn't survive the winter, because we had roses to pick by this time last year. BUT I see branches turning green, so it did survive. He's trying to convince me the butterfly bush didn't make it. He could be right. If we dip below 10 degrees (Fahrenheit) for two days, it does die. And we did, except, the butterfly bush is the last thing in the garden to bloom, so I don't know yet. (Cannot intentional kill anything but bugs. lol)

As for cool birds. I live in the city, so "normal birds" are pigeons, sparrows, and starlings. (BTW, thanks for that. All of those birds came from your side of the pond, and yet they have made America their home too. I like the sparrow. Like watching pigeons, except they're bullies to sparrows, but the starling? You had to give us that annoying bird too? lol) We do have robins in the neighborhood but saw our first robin in our garden a few days ago. Had a parkeet fly by once. (Felt sorry for it, because it was an escape pet and was going to die the following winter, unless it found home again.) Had a peregrine falcon stop by a neighbor's antenna once. A sandpiper, which is cool, because we're about 90 miles from the ocean. A goldfinch! This amazes me, because I was born and raised in New Jersey where the goldfinch is the state bird, but never saw one until it visited our tiny garden in Philadelphia. And, biggest thrill? A hummingbird landed on our butterfly bush and watched us from four feet away last year. Landed! As in stood there without flapping wings!

Do you get hummingbirds? Because they're the one kind of bird gardeners can entice to come simply by giving them red trumpeting flowers.

No idea what it is, but then again, different continents, so it is possible what you can grow we can't. There are groups on FB though for Plant People. Maybe someone on one of those groups can help you out.

Do you have a balcony or a little land around your apartment, so you can grow outside too? I've got scads of books that taught me how to grow in tiny places.

BTW, I consider plants that don't belong to me but I take pictures of as "borrowed plants." I consider them "mine" for the brief moment I'm admiring and then taking a picture. lol

I like to trim my lawn with a shears with an extended shaft so I can stand up while cutting. I save the interesting plants that some call weeds. The pollinators love them. This method of cutting grass is slower which teaches patience and I can hear the birds plus I'm not shaken up by the vibration of the mower and I can cut grass while there is dew this avoiding the hot part of the day.
Some weeds don't flower until fall (chamomile and goldenrod).
I cut the weeds to stay within the 10 inch rule of the city ordinance and to keep my neighbor from getting weed seed in this lawn. He likes pure grass.

I have been an avid gardener my whole life. I have a house full of house plants, raised bed veggies, and lots of flowers, herbs, perennials. Hubby takes care of the lawn. I will post some pictures here when I get home. Wait My at the doctor’s office right now!

Pigeons are rats with wings. They're the city's unpaid garbage collectors. Drop your sandwich on the sidewalk, and they're the ones taking it away. (Granted, then they eat it, and poop it out on your car, but whoever said things work out perfectly? lol)

But, yeah, went out just to enjoy the garden. So have some pictures I did post on FB. (I keep forgetting it works like that.)

Chives are flowering. So are old scallions. And do you like that I have a teapot and cup in the garden?

The same spot, but this is above it, and the other was from below. That's my plant stand -- a children's picnic table. Thyme is flowering behind the teacup and teapot. And that's my bay on a stand to the right.

Other side of the garden, our blackberry is taking off. The flowers below it are clematis, but this is only its second year, so not very big yet. (Didn't flower much last year, so this is improvement.) And parsley to keep clematis feet cool.

Other corner, near the gate into the alley, is our old Russia Sage and tomatoes starting.
