I love being all alone on Valentine's Day. There is nothing more romantic than sitting at home by yourself while so many others are out having a good time with there significant other.

amen, spaghetti bolognese for one and a dvd, with all that money saved any singles are the real winners right!?!?!
Seriously though it is overrated. I used to dislike it so much, that the odd occasion I was with somebody, I felt it was my duty to be miserable, for the sake of singles everywhere lol, humbug!!!, what was the question? :)

The best Valentines Day ever was the year I organised a candle lit dessert/coffee time at Krispy Kreme with all of my single girlfriends. It was seriously the best night ever. And friends stick around way longer than bf/gfs.

The only thing I don't like about the day is that it is all about gifts. I hate to give or receive gifts. I am not comfortable with that at all. My Ex loved to give and receive them but it was so much pressure for me. What if I get something she doesn't like or she already has or just never wanted? Now I see that I was over-thinking it. A gift is from the heart. This is going to be the 2nd V-day that I am going to give love to the world. I am helping out at a homeless shelter. It feels good to love the homeless when most people are justing loving only one person. Try it, hopefully you'l like it.

You are so right. I am not going to go out and watch all of these couples when I want to be part of a couple. Thats just setting myself up for all kinds of attacks.

Lol, the funniest thing that happened to me on Valentine's Day was when I worked it last year. I work with severe dementia people and one of the 96ish ladies got mad at me for asking her what she wanted to wear that day. She promptly yelled "Shut up! Will you marry me?!" . It was hilarious and my first marriage proposal..And it just so happened to be Valentine's Day! :D

A guy once bought me some fruit pastilles sayin "this is cos youre sweet" only error was, he put his name at the end of it! -i thought it was contradictory lol. But very nice of him..........

I think the best thing about it its a reminder of that thing God created - LOVE. honestly, most services I attend around V's day the message is based around the Corinthians description. Im glad its not always about the romantical stuff. I liked Saras idea.... infact, one time about 4 of us girls at church sent cards to eachother:)

I have a little Valentine's Day tradition. There is a restaurant not far from my house called Patrick's. I like to stand outside on the sidewalk as close to the glass as possible and find the happiest looking couple having dinner and then stare at them throughout the whole meal. The best thing that ever happened to me was about two years ago when one couple actually waved to me!

The worst thing I did a few years ago when I was in a relationship was to actually "forget" Valentine's Day. I am not sure how it slipped my mind, but my girlfriend at that time was so upset about it, she remained angry at me for an entire week after Valentine's Day. Now that is what I call holding on to a grudge - lol. But surely I am not the only man in history to forget about Valentine's Day, right guys??? Please tell me I am not the only one!!!

On a more serious note. Although I am in no way against couple's celebrating their love for each other on Valentine's Day, for single people it can sometimes be a day of loneliness and heartache for not having a special someone in their lives to share that day with. But for us Christian singles it need not be that way. We have the greatest love in the universe to celebrate on Valentine's Day (and every other day) - the love of Jesus Christ.

Here are a couple of quotes from two of my favorite authors (17th century Puritan Thomas Watson, and 19th century Preacher Charles Spurgeon) to help prepare us single Christians to use the upcoming Valentine's Day as a day to cherish the fact that we are actually not alone (we have an omnipresent Lover), and to celebrate God's undying love towards each one of us.

"God's love for His people is an ancient love, it dates from eternity."
- Thomas Watson, The Godly Man's Picture, pg 198

"The men of the world have bounty dropping from God's fingers, but the godly have love dropping from God's heart. He gives to one a golden cup, to the other a golden kiss."
- Thomas Watson, The Godly Man's Picture, pg 198

"The region of love to Christ is the native place of the Christian."
- Charles Spurgeon, from the sermon 'Love's Crowning Deed'

"We were first brought to know Christ and to rest in Him through His love, and there, in the warmth of His tenderness, we were born to God."
- Charles Spurgeon, from the sermon 'Love's Crowning Deed'

"There were ten thousand princely acts of the love of Jesus Christ towards His own, but none of them can for a moment endure comparison with His dying for them - the agonizing death of the Cross surpasses all the rest. The other life-actions of His love are bright as stars, and, like the stars, if you gaze upon them, they will be seen to be far greater than you dreamed, but yet they are only stars compared with this clear, blazing sun of infinite love which is to be seen in the Lord's dying for His people on the bloody tree."
- Charles Spurgeon, from the sermon 'Love's Crowning Deed'

"We poor mortal men have only power to die, but Christ had power to live. Crown Him, then! Set a new crown upon His beloved head! Let other lovers who had died for their friends be crowned with silver, but for Jesus bring forth the golden diadem and set it upon the head of the Immortal who never needed to have died, and yet became a mortal, yielding Himself to death's pangs without necessity, except the necessity of His mighty love."
- Charles Spurgeon, from the sermon 'Love's Crowning Deed'

I really don't celebrate valentine's day, but when I dated my ex, it was her first one, so I tried to make it special for her. I cooked a nice (well I think it was nice...) dinner for her. Then I blinded folded her and drove her to this dead end street. I turned on the high beams on the car and then I walked her out to the middle of the road. I told her to wait, and then I opened all the windows in my car and turned up the music to a slow dancing song. I undid the blind folds and then we danced in the middle of the street as we laughed at the people coming out to watch. I thought it was nice. But I don't think valentines day is for me. Too much thinking to just make a girl happy for a fake holiday. Everyday should be a valentine's day if you really love each other.

The thing to keep in mind is that loving someone is not about you, it is about them.

I am sure there are things that someone can do that make you feel special. Those things are your love language. NOW, if you were to do those same things for your g/f and she does not feel loved....that is becuase you are assuming that your love language is her love language.

What I am trying to say is that valentines day may not have much meaning to you....but for most girls it does. It does not mean we are materialistic or anything like that....it is another way to show a declaration of your feelings for her. (and in defense of some guys...yes, I am sure part of the reason it is a big deal to women is due to the influence of society and comercialism and what is EXPECTED of that day etc...)
But that aside...if it speaks love to her, then it should be important to you...even if the day really does not mean anything to you at all.

This goes for more than just valentines day of course.

Sometimes a persons love language may be gifts...but that does not mean big materialistic things...that could be something as simple as leaving a single flower on the seat of her car. Or picking up her favorite muffins from the bakery for her to have for breakfast the next day etc.

(My opinion: the valentines day you planned for your former g/f sounds nice, fun, and unique. I am sure she enjoyed it very much. I think valentines day is more your holiday than you think) :)

Blessings

I agree...it's fun...but only until your mind says uh huh, best only look or you'll gain a good 10 pounds or so if you eat that chocolate ha ha. No but seriously,it is fun to look around and see all the love people have for one another, even if it's just friends,or family.

As for the singles: just focus on God's love for you,and your love for him. Surround yourself with worship music about the love of God and things like that. Have some friends join you, make it great if you want. Just don't sit around and mope lol don't be depressed.

I have always been single on Valentines Day,but this year thank God I won't be! I'm not sure what weekend it will be,but one weekend in February we're going to Gatlinburg,TN for the weekend. Going on a Friday and leaving on a Sunday.

We're getting a cabin together, and it will be a couples thing in a way. A friend of his, whom is like a brother to him and his wife are going with us. They will have their own cabin, but we plan to meet up during the day and do things together and all that. It's sure to be a great time, really looking forward to it :)

This year I am going to get together with all of my single friends and have dinner at a swanky restaurant. Oh wait! I am the only single one! Maybe I'll go alone dressed in all black to symbolize my untra-abysmal love life.

This made me laugh when I thought about it this morning......I've been seeing someone once in my life on valentines day.....we were never official, and I knew she wasn't right for me, but we dragged it out for a few months.....anyway Sheffield United were playing at home on the 14th, and I had a free pair of tickets.....so officially one of the most romantic thing I've done on valentines day, is go to the football.......back of the net!!! :)

A relationship would be more serious now Im a Christian, and I wouldn't be with somebody for the sake of it. Id be more romantic now too, Id probably buy the football tickets! ;) Hey ho, you live you learn :D
