Back then they didnt follow the gregorian calendar so he would have been born in the jewish month. It was probably around the same time though. Shepherds keep watch of their sheep all year round, plus in Israel, winters are mild. Its not like they are anywhere near the north pole.

I heard some people say Tishri, which corresponds to september, but others say he was born during the festival of dedication (hannukah) which is in winter. Which would be appropriate given that he is the Light of the World. And we do know he was born near the evening sometime. As shepeherds came soon after, and there being no room at the inn..they must have got there late.
Even where there are mild winters the grass has cycles and in the dead of winter it dries up and they don't bother to move their flocks out to graze on nothing.

Hello Deade!

You are correct, Jesus was NOT born on December 25th. :)(y)

I'm thinking He was born in late September. What do you think? :)
This is what I have dug up so far:

Since posting this, I have read that Herod may have died as late as 1 BC, and so Jesus may on that basis have begun his ministry as late as 26 AD or 27 AD - which helps.

Yes, I believe the confusion the date Archelaus takes over the throne from Herod the Great. That is established at 4 BCE. But some evidence suggest that Herod lived longer. As like the Wikipedia entry below suggests that this happened before Herod's death. Maybe Herod was sickly and lived past 4 BCE.

“Most scholarship concerning the date of Herod's death follows Emil Schürer's calculations, which revised a traditional death date of 1 BCE to 4 BCE.[62][1][3][63][64] Two of Herod's sons, Archelaus and Philip the Tetrarch, dated their rule from 4 BCE,[65] though Archelaus apparently held royal authority during Herod's lifetime.[66] Philip's reign would last for 37 years, until his death in the 20th year of Tiberius (34 CE), which implies his accession as 4 BCE.[67] Some scholars support the traditional date of 1 BCE for Herod's death.[68][69][70][71] Filmer and Steinmann, for example, propose that Herod died in 1 BCE, and that his heirs backdated their reigns to 4 or 3 BCE to assert an overlapping with Herod's rule, and bolster their own legitimacy.[2][3][4][1] In Josephus' account, Herod's death was preceded by a lunar eclipse and followed by Passover.[72]”

From Wikipedia

That may well be why the Holy Spirit warned Joseph not to go to Jerusalem as Herod may have still been alive. Matt. 2:22 "But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:"

With all the data we know of, I think your 26-27 AD date is about right. As near as I can figure He was crucified at 30 AD.

Matt 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem.
(NOTE: Jesus is born on or after 4BC when Herod took over)

Jesus was most likely conceived in Dec 4 B.C, during Hanukkah (Feast of Dedication/Feast of Lights). Jesus is the light of the world John 8:12 portrayed a Servant in Isa 53. It's the servant candle the lights all other lights on the Hanukkah Menorah.

Jesus is born in Sept 3 B.C. during the Feast of Trumpets at Tekiah ha-Gadol. Circumcised 8 day's later on Yom Kippur. Then dwelled/tabernacled in a manger (sukkah) with his parents during the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot) that yr.

Luke 3:23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age.

Jesus ministry begins shortly after he turns 30 in 27AD during the Feast of tabernacles, John 7:37-38. Continues through 3 Passovers (John 2:13, 6:4, 11:55-57). And ends 3 1/2 years later with his death on Passover 30AD.

Well, maybe go to Bethlehem and ask the shepeherds what their practices are but here in nz sheep graze all year round and some parts its winter and even snow and sheep are still in fields. They might go into a sheepfold at night, but they still need to herd them. There isnt a night or day that a shepherd isnt keeping watch, plus keeping away predators.

You can figure out if you diligent to do the maths when Jesus was born because it was after John the baptist was born. Their parents needed to serve in the temple and they were rostered at certain times zecharah being a priest. Mary was with elizabeth when John was born and she was pregant then when elizabeth was sixth months.

Ok luke 1:26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth

The sixth month corresponds to what? So, nine months from the sixth month is when? I dont know the day, but we know from the Bible the month. Remember the bible translation often numbers the months rather than giving the name of it.

Here's one. Jacob went to Luz, and while he was there he laid down to sleep. he saw angels ascending and descending from heaven. After he awoke, what did he name the place?

He named it Bethel = "House of God."

Gen 28:22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

An interesting side take. The British Monarchs claim they have "Jacob's pillar stone" under their coronation throne.

Creation questions to [think about]

why did Angeles shout for joy when the earth was made?
was the earth and heavens maybe first made to be inhabited ?
when was satan made god of this this present world?
was there a time when "all creation" was not in bondage?
what was the Angeles original habitation [that they left] ?
what does tohu and bohu mean [heb.] ?
when did satan say in his heart: I will exalt [my throne]
[above] the stars of God...I will be like the Most High?
when did he say in his heart “I will ascend to the heavens" ?
what was satans first sin ?
when did Lucifer sin and become satan? "that old serpent"
when did satan fall from heaven ?
when did God shake the earth ?
when was the universe put in bondage[now in decay and futility] ?
when did the dinos get killed off by asteroids ?
why does the bible say six thousand years, but science says old universe?
when did God "renewest the face of the earth" ?
will God yet shake the earth again, also heaven ?
-

For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth
and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited:
I am the Lord; and there is none else.

“And the earth was [became] without form, and void

"Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom
by reason of thy brightness." Ezekiel 28:17.

"How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn!
You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!

"Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord; awake, as in the ancient days,
in the generations of old. Art thou not it that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon?

"For this purpose the Son of God was manifested,
that he might destroy the works of the devil.

"Who verily was foreordained [before] the foundation of the world
-

Why should the whole universe—the creation—be waiting with eager longing
for the actual birth and appearing of all the sons of God, to be born ?

Will God " plant the Heavens" ?

To better understand what the Bible really says, about the age of the earth, we must critically inspect the translation accuracy of our modern Bibles.

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: And there was light” (Genesis 1:1-3). The Hebrew word hâyâh translated to the first "was" in Genesis 1:2, can just as easily mean "became." Verse one is a general statement that depicts the creation: A perfect and complete work at the very time it was done. God would not create an uneven, disorderly world.

In verse two, we could say that, somehow, the earth "became" without form and void. Translated from the Hebrew, are the words for "without form" (tôhûw) and "void" (bôhûw). In their original tongue, both these words basically mean the same thing: Empty or desolate. Enter the "gap theory," which states: There could have been multiple thousands of years between the time "in the beginning," when God did the creating in Genesis 1:1; and Genesis 1:2, when the earth was (or became) empty and desolate. In essence then, the creation depicted in Genesis chapter 1, after verse 1, constitutes a re-creation. This is also called the “old earth” doctrine.

I believe in the gap theory, as it aligns with the true picture given us in other places in scripture. Satan had already fallen by the time he got to the Garden of Eden (see Ezekiel 28:12-16). Also consider the following:

“And it shall come to pass in the day that the Lord shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve, that thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, how hath the oppressor ceased! The golden city ceased! The Lord hath broken the staff of the wicked, and the sceptre of the rulers. He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth. The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: They break forth into singing. Yea, the fir trees rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us.

Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: It stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. All they shall speak and say unto thee, art thou also become weak as we? Art thou become like unto us? Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: The worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; that made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners? All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house. But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet. Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: The seed of evildoers shall never be renowned” (Isaiah 14:3-20).

This Lucifer, turned evil, can be none other than Satan. God was, and still is, casting Satan out of His government. The earth became desolate through gross mismanagement. God had obviously given Satan charge over all the earth, but the devil's rebellious ways brought about a major catastrophe that made an absolute mess of the planet.

God then re-created the world and removed Satan from his rulership and placed man in his stead. “And God blessed them [mankind], and God said unto them, be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: And have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth” (Genesis 1:28). The devil still rules the world system, but he now does it in an indirect way——by influencing man.

God had given us the history of the world, as recorded in Genesis, only from the time that man entered into the picture. What had taken place on the earth, before this time, is not fully revealed nor relevant to what God is doing with mankind. Once resurrected and immortal we will help God rule all the planets. He has a vast universe to manage. There are no limits on tomorrow.

Who said you weren't allowed to look it up. We always were upfront on whether it is from memory or if we looked it up. If it's not in your memory, you can still play. You are correct according to 1 Sam. 17:13. Your question next.

That would be Micah 5:2 "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting."
