Hi SpoonJuly,
If you notice, Micah 5 parallels Revelation 12 in which a woman travails and brings forth a man child who is to rule all nations.
And as Revelation 12, 13, and onward regard events in which the beast and whore appear; the Assyrian in Micah 5 would then have to do these entities, who are also represented as Babylon the great.

Micah 5 speaks of the Assyrian coming.

Who is this speaking of and when does he come?
And He will be our peace
when the Assyrians invade our land
and march through our fortresses.
We will raise against them seven shepherds,
even eight commanders,
who will rule the land of Assyria with the sword,
the land of Nimrod with drawn sword.
He will deliver us from the Assyrians
when they invade our land
and march across our borders.
(Micah 5:5-6)

this doesn't read to me as a specific Assyrian, but a whole nation, collectively.
so i think the right question is not "
who is the Assyrian" but "who is Assyria" ?

so, Micah was prophet ~ 740-700 BC

given the timeline on the map below, of periods when Jews were carried off by Assyria,
is Micah talking about a specific Assyrian captivity to come in the future, or is '
Assyria' being spoken of in an emblematic way, because for the 100 years leading up to an even during Micah's prophetic ministry, it has been Assyria who has harried and fought against and carried off the people of Israel?

just a thought :)

It seems that some have missed the fact that Micah is speaking of the last days and the Assyrian will come into Israel and lay siege.
This is a future event.
Study the whole book of Micah.

Totally on board with Micah 5 representing the last days.
As the Assyrian was the top dog military wise in the 8th century BC, I then believe the Lord uses the Assyrian representing a top military nation who invades and conquers Middle Eastern nations during the end times .
This top military nation who conquers many Middle Eastern nations during the end times is also described metaphorically in Daniel 8 and 11 as the kingdom of Greece, and the Northern kingdom.
Many references about the Assyrian during the end times also in Isaiah.

As i undestand it.The occupants within the boundaries of the promised land(euphates to the nile)shall rise up to destroy israel.Assur in psalms 83: 8 was the capital city of the old Assyrian empire and located in Iraq. The Assyrian homeland consisted of north Iraq,Northwest Iran,Northeasten Syria, and Southeastern Turkey.

The four of these countries bound by the river eurphates are presently allied and Iran is determined to destroy israel.
As I understand.Only those sealed by Christ are saved during this war.

He does not lay seige, Isreal rises up and destroys him and prevents him from laying siege

What part of that can you not comprehend?

Hey bro. It is Not God himslef. It is Israel through the power of God, who destroys him

When the Assyrian comes into our land,
And when he treads in our palaces,
Then we will raise against him
Seven shepherds and eight princely men.

6 They shall [c]waste with the sword the land of Assyria,
And the land of Nimrod at its entrances;
Thus He shall deliver us from the Assyrian,
When he comes into our land
And when he treads within our borders.

While Yes. Jesus does deliver them, As he always did, He uses the people themselves to destroy them, just like he used David to destroy the philistines.

When jesus destroys the antichrist, He comes in the clouds, His robes dipped in blood. He personally takes the beast and false prophet and throws them into the lake of fire. And takes satan who controls them and binds him for 100 years.. He does not use people to destry them.

The verse I am speaking of is

That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders.

I know.. All kingdoms had a king..I aree with you there

I was just showing how he could not be the antichrist. Or man of sin, or final gentile beast as some (including the Op) are trying to say.

The Assyrian relys heaviy upon the euphrates river .Its used for agriculture and is of extreme importance.
While the two witnesses in revelation 12 are pesecuting the Assyrian,it shall not rain during thier testimony. The waters of the euphrates dry up making way for those kings and thier militaries to advance to Armeggedon.
They take Jerusalem and kill the two witnesses as they are instructed in the islamic hadith.

Micah 5 speaks of the Assyrian coming.

Who is this speaking of and when does he come?

One thing I have learned that I think can help aid, I believe is how the Bible uses the word forever. It is used in two ways .One forever and ever without end and forever in respect to the last day of this corrupted creation.

All of the pagan nations to include the Assyrian are compared as a parable to the Hebrew nation. The temporal as a copy representing the unseen eternal. Using ten nations represents all that will come against faith. Again using ten to represent all the generations of men.

Deuteronomy 23:3 He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord.A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the Lord. An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the Lord "for ever":

Ruth a Moabite entered forever and ever without end,("into the age of the ages") by faith. The true holy place, not the earthly copy, not looking to the flesh of any nation, male nor female, but a new creation .

"Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen," (1 Tim. 1:17).

I think we can say all the pagan nations of the world will come against Christians as in Christianity . The new name God name his bride previously calling her Israel . Not all Israel is Israel as His bride the church.

It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.hebrews 9:23

The earthly Jerusalem a copy or pattern used as a parable of the true unseen holy place, the hidden glory .

We walk by faith the unseen eternal and not by sight after the temporal. Not as if the kingdom did come by observation.

And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.Rev21:22-23

I would think the two witness would be Moses and Elijah used to represent the law and the prophets. Or as it is written, the one source of faith by which we can hear the voice of God . The question from Luke is; when he does come will he find faith or like in the days of Noah men using the imaginations of their own heart as personal experience, making the faith of God as it is written without effect, rendering it dead.

Its never about flesh and blood of any nation . The genealogy ended with the Son of man Jesus as the generation of Christ, the new creatures. Taking it further is fruitless.

Even the Son of man, Jesus said his own Jewish flesh it profits for nothing as a demonstration of the true holy place God, pouring out his unseen Spirit, as if it was blood.

I dont believe this is elijah or moses or two men.
Revelations says these two witnesses have "fire " coming out of thier mouths to devour thier enemies.
They have power to shut the heavens so that it doesnt rain.
These are things a military does. And if we keep what is witten of the two witnesses in the context of the chapter it reveals they are gentile and shall occupy jerusalem for 42 months.
The same amount of time Daniel,11 places the king of the norths military in jerusalem till the end.

These two vereses belong together.

I would offer.

The military calls down rain? War dance?

Elijah called down rain to represent the doctrines of God, the gospel of our salvation. .

Deuteronomy 32:2 My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:

Yes Elijah called down fire to represent the judgement of God. Three times. The first 2 groups of fifty .666 (2/3) were consumed. The last group he had mercy on as a picture of the gospel. Moses witnessed a fire that was not consuming to represent the mercy of God.

Same with David when he drew a dividing line .666 faced judgement. The 1/3 or .333 were spared. Seems to be a pattern?
