Yes, that's true, but non-Christian peoples still kept track of their kings' lines. Many of these connect up to their equivalent of a supreme deity. Persian lines, for example, end up at Ahura Mazda, the main deity in Zoroastrianism.
Thanks. I understanding you have training with looking at words as to their origins and other things . I have gotten interested in those things when I did first start reading the scriptures.

The question I would ask I understand that the language of God is poetic. or metaphorical in that way that I believe it would help us understand why Jesus said without parables he spoke not hiding the spiritual understanding from those who do not hear the interpretation as a signified language . Like in interpreting the word of God prophecy in Revelations . Revealing not only did he inspire the word but also signified it even calling it the hidden mana in chapter 2. In that way we would take the things seen the temporal like the key in Revelation 20 understanding it is the gospel the key that loosens and bind like a chain to represent the unchanging debt of a bottom less pit. Never to rise to new spirit life, as with other earthly things seen to view the Holy unseen eternal place, again as the signified language of God .

Revelation 1 King James Version (KJV) The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and "signified" it by his angel unto his servant John:

Remember what Paul said how if he speaks in tongues but has not love he is but a clanging symbol? Love is very important.

It is not good to squash the gifts of the Spirit. I can agree with you on that. It is also good to test things to see if it is valid or not. When researchers ask subjects to speak in tongues and they do but the researchers don't see a language but rather just random sounds put to together to mimic language, that doesn't mean that tongues does not exist it may just mean that those specific people might not have really been speaking in tongues. When people who are not Christian practice tongues, it does not mean all tongues are counterfeit but that there may exist some counterfeit tongues.

How can a Christian know if they really have the gift of tongues? For myself it is not something I am comfortable with at this point just practicing it in prayer. I don't seem to have enough faith for it. If I speak in tongues I want to be assured it is of the Lord and not just me. Though I have noticed in the middle of the night before how I would catch myself saying something or singing but not english but I don't know either
I don't disagree with what you have written

there are counterfeit tongues actually and demonic tongues

however when one starts out not even believing in God, I hardly expect any research to be unbiased :)

you should be assured that if you speak in tongues it is by the Holy Spirit and not another

With all due respect - I would prefer to remain 'anonymous' with respect to that. Identifying with a particular religious/spiritual path always seems to generate some sort of reaction in the sense that people tend to automatically place you in a box, so to speak and assume that you adhere to everything that particular path espouses.

I am definitely not atheist/agnostic.

oh you mean like you put Christians in a box?

and how you put all tongues in a box?

I think the correct word to describe that is hypocrisy in case you missed it

hmm

ok...not sure what you are saying here?

if you could please clarify for me'?

thanks :)
There was a study some years back that Penn State University did MRI"s on people who speak in tongues. Their finding was that tongues didn't originate in the language center of the brain.

I used to be able to bring it up quickly in a search but not tonight. The video that was posted was not in those studies.

I have spoken in what sounds like tongues before but I can't tell if it is actually language or just random sounds put together. There have been occasions where I woke up in half awake half sleep mode and I was saying something and not too long ago I was singing in the middle of the night as well. I have trouble getting over the discomfort and doubts of it, so normally I don't do it while awake. I may talk to a pastor or maybe someone from my church. I thought that if God wanted me to speak in tongues maybe he would give me more faith about it unless maybe faith is something that comes as you learn about the gift from the bible and others...

On what basis would you claim other tongues being counterfeit?

I stopped going to church because of such things.

Isa 30:
19O people in Zion, who dwell in Jerusalem, you will weep no more. He will surely be gracious at the sound of your cry; when He hears, He will answer you. 20The Lord will give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, but your Teacher will no longer hide Himself—with your own eyes you will see Him.

21And whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: “This is the way. Walk in it.” 22So you will desecrate your silver-plated idols and your gold-plated images. You will throw them away like menstrual cloths, saying, “Be gone!”

We are called to gather and be unified in glorifying God. I encourage you to find a biblically based church with sound doctrine and reconnect. Or start a house church, disciple a few people to go out and do the same. Just don’t isolate from the body of Christ.

Well many Christians dont have the charisma to go out and pray and see God heal ppl. I believe it is possible tho.
It should be a part of our life.

I think theres many signs if someone received the Holy spirit. tongues is just one of many. Tongues just always get magnified

Well, then we should expect these signs from around 800 000 000 pentecostals and charismatics which claime they received the Holy Spirit and as sign for it speaking in tongrom.
This would be a great sign for the world.
And again, wether Paul taught that speaking in tongues is a sign of receiving the Holy Spirit nor it is to find in the churchhistorie befire 1900.
Why i should believe such a teaching?

1 John 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

I didn't say that wolf. John did.

Give blame to the Holy Spirit??

There are offices Wolf. But then, do you even believe this word? Are there prophets and apostles today?

Look at this scripture...

Acts 3:4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.

Most all will pass this by and not think twice about what occurred here. But, I can tell you what was happening. To explain the writer could of said, " and Peter being filled with the Holy Ghost said...

Afterwards Peter attributes the work of healing the lame man to Jesus and the power of His name. It's always through grace which is the divine influence upon the heart, with its reflection in ones life including gratitude. Or simply Holy Spirit working through faith of the believer. Pentecost comes every day in someone's life even yet.
When you mentioned acts, you maby should recognize, that the miracles and healings are done to people which are not christians and to reveal that the gispel is from God and Is true. In the churchhistory God shows such miracles and healings manly in contact to nonbeliever, will say in mission ore evangelisation. I was involved in mission ministrie in India. And there people where healed because the church (non pentecostal and non charismatic) prayed. And the healed people turned to christ.

Today, in the church healing is also occur. But this is not depend to having this baptism of the Holy Spirit with speaking in tongues which you proclaim.
And people have not to moving and acting like animals, ore must laugh uncontrolable, ore are unable to move and what else today is teached if you receiving the Holy Spirit.

The test is in JOhn Chapter 1 and chapter 14 to 16. In Acts 1 & 2 . and many other's. You can it was not taught IF you rip out pages in the book of Acts.
Why then Paul does not taught this? Everything what is important for us is taught.
You are putting verses out of the context for to create this doctrine.
But it is not found in the bible as advise ore information for the church.
And you can quote the churchfathers ore others in the churchhistorie.
This was not taught!
If it would stand in the bible and if it would tsught in the same way. Then this would be normal in every christian life. The people in acts 2 ore 10 ore 19 must not ask the Holy Spirit for to speak in tongues. It just happend to them.

Today you are taught you must learn to speak in tongues, you must ever and ever ask the Holy Spirit to give this gift.

This shows that you cant combine Acts and 1.Cor. together.
And Paul said clearly that prophecie is much better then speaking in tongues.

But the pentecostal movement and later the charismatic waves makes the speaking in tongues so important that the meaning came up that without speaking in tongues you are not a real christian.
According Paul then you should rather prophecy. But nobody is teaching this?
Why?

I've sort of asked this before in bits and pieces, but to have it all in one post -

Many tongues-speakers allude to three ‘types’, or 'categories' of tongues: real, counterfeit/fake, and demonic.

This begs a few questions –

When you hear someone speak tongues and you say it’s counterfeit/fake/ or demonic, or legit/real, what makes it that way?

What, to you, constitutes a ‘fake’ tongue?? What makes it ‘fake’? Why is it any less ‘real’ than you’re your tongue? Obviously, this doesn’t include the “woulda-coulda-shoulda-bought-a-honda” variety; or is this in fact the only criteria for a ‘fake’ tongue; i.e. an obvious play on obvious real language words?

What, to you, constitutes a ‘demonic’ tongue?? Is it the ‘words’ being spoken, the sounds themselves, the intonation or voice timbre of the speaker, just a “bad feeling” about what you’re hearing, or someone telling you that they’re ‘demonic’?? Again, what makes this type of tongue different from yours?

And of course, what, to you, makes your tongue ‘real’?? Why do you perceive it as language? What makes it so? Again, the sounds, intonation, the ‘words’, just a feeling that it’s ‘right‘ and ‘correct’? What, to you, constitutes a real/legit tongue?

I’m not looking for Bible quotes, I want it in your own words – Why do you make a distinction between the three and what constitutes a particular tongue falling into a particular category? Is it just a matter of perception (I guess some would prefer the term ‘discernment’), or something else?

I don’t mean this to be sound the wrong way, but folks, these are your three labels, not mine. I’m asking you to define these three categories more concisely/clearly.

For a bit of reference, I classify two types of glossolalia: ‘real’ and ‘fake’; but my criteria, I suspect, is very different than yours.

For me, ‘real’ would be glossolalia which is subconsciously produced; the speaker is aware of it, can control things like volume, starting and stopping, etc., but the glossic string itself is clearly ‘flowing’; it is produced seemingly without any conscious effort.

‘Fake’, on the other hand, is glossolalia which is obviously being produced with a conscious effort. It doesn’t quite flow, and it seems to involve an obvious conscious effort to produce.

The issue I think is those here some, think if you seek the Holy Spirit in some way you find the devil. Think about that for a moment. If you ask the "Father " for the Holy Spirit, some teach, you get a snake. Just think about that for a moment and let that sink in.

I missed the part where Paul said speak in gibberish and hold tongues above all other gifts as the sign of a true believer.
