oh boy

I quoted what you said yesterday

you said it...I commented on it...it seems you are saying something different today

if you do not see what you posting, even if I quote it to you, how should one address what you say?

listen...you find people like that all over the place...tongues or no tongues

what is the criteria in the Bible? that is where you begin...not with how people act because like I said, tongues has nothing to do with the observable arrogance we see in some. in fact, some of the worst detractors of tongues in this forum are arrogant and nasty with everyone...it's just who they are I guess
I understand I mentioned faith coming from reading the bible and learning from others. I did not mean to imply I have not read up on tongues in the bible because I have read about it. The way I worded it probably was not the best though. I am not sure what you mean by your question about criteria in the bible. Do you mean criteria for being a child of God or being filled with the Spirit?

I am calling out what I believe is distorting the word of God as I’ve said many times. I’ve never judged anyone’s standing with God as you are doing with me.

I never once forbid anyone from speaking in tongues. I am calling out the distortions of scripture.
Yes if I am understanding your point Tongues is the word of God as prophecy of God spoken to interpreted in more than one language .We can see that in Acts at Pentecost.

I would ask? Why would we forbid each other from declaring the good news of God, as prophecy from one another in a hope of unity of the Spirit of Christ. Why distort scripture, as it is written...... and rather we are to make and hear sounds without interpretation ? What would that reveal?

Prophecy and tongues are separate gifts.

well, you asked this:

What if the one who speaks in tongues was most of the time proud, rude, self-seeking etc but the one who did not was loving, gentle, joyful, self-less etc most of the time- which one is walking closer to Jesus?

and I said this:

what is the criteria in the Bible? that is where you begin...not with how people act because like I said, tongues has nothing to do with the observable arrogance we see in some. in fact, some of the worst detractors of tongues in this forum are arrogant and nasty with everyone...it's just who they are I guess

I meant if you are going to judge something, then do so by the criteria of scripture...not how people act because their are actors everywhere

I never said it’s a group of people 🤣. It’s a serpentine spirit that coils around the spine. It is not the Holy Spirit yet a Pentecostal revival is identical to a kundalini awakening in Hinduism.

well yes you did implicate a group of people

all Charasmatics and all Pentecostals and you are still at it

nothing like youtube for educating the masses

The flaw is built into their doctrine and core truths. I never said kundalini was a group of people. But yes a group of people, the Pentecostals have embraced it. If we are going to just accept every new revelation like the Charismatic Movement then we might as well accept the Muslims, Mormans, and Jehovah’s Witnesses.

@stonesoffire & CherieR –

Thanks for both of your responses.

CherieR, with real and fake, how would you know which is which by just listening? Or, perhaps a better question might be, would you be able to tell from just listening?

With all of these (with the exception of someone incorporating animal sounds into their tongues), it almost sounds like you’d need it to be interpreted.

Could you tell which is which without interpretation (again, excluding hearing anything with say, animal sounds)?

Stonesosfire, correct me if I’m wrong, but it sounds like for you, it’s more of a perception kind of thing. Would the same apply if you just heard the tongues without physically seeing the speaker?

The disciples also had flames swirling around and resting over their heads. Why isn’t that sought after as a sign of being baptized in fire?

Ever heard of mis-translation?

Look at Lot's wife claimed to be turned into a pillar of salt. But the actual word which was mis-translated for salt actually means she vanished (disappeared like vapor into thin air - poof).

Just a quick question - are you essentially equating modern tongues with the Hindu concept of Kundalini?

The gift of the Holy Spirit in any form, no. The distortion of those gifts to include most tongues today, yes.

I’ve also noticed the part I’ve mentioned several times about testing spirits has been completely ignored by everyone that’s responded to my assertions.

I missed the part where Paul said speak in gibberish and hold tongues above all other gifts as the sign of a true believer.

No, he claimed he spoke in tongues more than anyone did (he bragged about it)

1 Corinthians 14:18
I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:

You are making my point. The Bible never says tongues is the first sign every believer will display or that they will be gifted with it. We are not to seek a baptism of the Holy Spirt. It was poured out to the disciples as the initial outpouring. Now it is one and the same as our salvation.

From the mouth of your Lord and Savior, Yeshua:

Mark 16:17
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

actually, the flaw is built into cessationist Baptist doctrine that differs from scripture and denies the power of God

you start and stop and salvation and differ to the experts on youtube and relegate the Holy Spirit to collecting dust in the back of your mind

however, that is your problem and the problem of all other non-believing 'believers'. you only believe half the Bible

thankfully, accepting the gifts of the spirit is not a salvic issue

BUT blaspheming against the Holy Spirit and saying all people who speak in tongues do so by a demonic spirit may just be a salvic issue

you would do well to learn something and not show yourself so ignorant as to assume all who speak in tongues are Charismatic or Pentecostal

I will do you the same and acknowledge that not all Baptists are as ill informed as are you

Keep going just a little further. What does Paul say next?

He is speaking that in church he used less Tongues in order to communicate.

This is a no brainer because Tongues is language to God, not other humans with one exception:

22
Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

Kundalini and (modern) tongues are two different phenomena entirely. The connecting of the Hindu concept of 'kundalini' with modern 'tongues' is an attempt by some to associate "New Age" (though Kundalini is certainly not 'new') with the modern tongues experience.

There are certain parallels in that both can be considered a type of “spiritual awakening”, but really, that's about where the similarity ends.

Not written by Mark. 16: 9-20 is contested and should be read with caution. And it always what people fall back on to defend their distortions. There is a lively discussion on the topic.
