Open challenge to everyone and anyone.

John 14:12 Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I am doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

Q1. Who in this thread can confirm to us that they can do more works than Jesus ever did?
Q2. Those who are doing less than what Jesus did, give one good reason? (Mine is cessation)
Lest we forget, the same spirit who was in Christ, was also with the Apostles, is the same spirit we are claiming today.

Gibberish is an English word that best describes the modern day phenomenon of 'tongues'.
True, a lot of people call it gibberish, but that would be oversimplifying it; gibberish does not intend to mimic language. Glossolalia (non-cognitive non-language utterance/free vocalization) does. It's a subtle difference and maybe kind of splitting hairs, but it's there.

maybe you should ask yourself that question. this is why those with hidden agenda and bias make false narratives to support what they cannot prove the above post you have does just that why? because the context is not that. that is clear if you would have taken verses before 12 and after 12.

Read :

John 14:8-14

8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”

9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority.Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

again you look at the word of God to prove what God cannot do. Your question is misguided and frankly what I would expect from a non-believer who is trying to disprove the word of God.

Jesus said "Don't you know me " Jesus was saying to Philip I AM enough. Did you not see what I have been doing? the very works that Jesus did prove HE is God. And the relationship you have with Jesus reveals the Father. When Jesus said the works that I do you will them too and greater work because HE goes to the Father. What was Jesus talking about? It is very clear IF you would have read verses 15-21.

Jesus was setting the stage for the coming help and work of The Holy Spirit. Jesus Knew that once the Holy Spirit had come and HE was leaving them they would be troubled Jesus said I will not leave like that. The Comforter will come. Acts 1:8 tell what the greater work is seeing people saved. That's it salvation through the foolishness of preaching the gospel men were saved.

16And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another [e]Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.".

They would do more for the Kingdom. Jesus Is God but HE has chosen a man to be the one to take His message to the world That was the greater and is the greater work.
You make an excuse not to do greater works because of a made up word by liberal theologians? You hatred has blinded you. The greater work is not raising the dead, healing, speaking in tongues, or casting out devils the greater works is what John 14 says, shocking you did not see it :

from verse 1 -31
you believe in God, believe also in Me.

“If you had known Me,
Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me?
Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.
Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
“If you love Me, [d]keep My commandments.

And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another [e]Helper, that He may abide with you forever
the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him;
but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
“A little while longer and the world will see Me no more,
He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and [f]manifest Myself to him.”
Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
But the[g]Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
The peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

it is sad that you would attack the Holy Spirit so much I really feel sad for you after I went to 2 Timothy, 3

But know this, that in the last days [a]perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, [b]unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! 6 For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8 Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; 9 but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.

You rely on humanistic understanding and attack those here and the very word of God. You use terms not even found in the bible but in a secular humanism book which is more about atheism than Christianity. the Bible does not have the words" gibberish, free-vocalization. That was created to explain the supernatural power of God which you do not believe happens today and use worldly terms and man intellectual ability to disprove the word of God. You have no edifying words nothing comforting all you have is hate. I have yet to see any post from you that I can even say amen to. I disagree with many on this topic. They have more ability to explain their position fairly and with rationality. Not you.

This is very serious misinformation from you.

1. The sun and the moon and the stars falling or not giving their light doesn't mean what you have been indoctrinated to think.
Everything will be very normal to the very end, just like the days of Noah, people will marrying and being given for marriage, drinking, eating and making merry and suddenly, the day comes like a trap. This is what it means coming like a thief in the night.

Believers are the light of the world and the lights of the world are the sun/moon/stars. When it is said they fall or are blooded or darkened, it means the antichrist overcomes them by lies and are taken out of this world through death so that they are saved.
More allegory from you.

If you pay attention to the world today, you will notice that nothing is going normal even TODAY, let alone the very end. Massive fish/animal deaths in the sea, more earthquakes than ever, stronger than ever, more hurricanes, more tornadoes, stronger tornadoes, stronger hurricanes, never been this cold, never been this hot, weird signs in the sky, record breaking everything.
Never been a one world globalist world like today, never had this much ecumenical activity, never had this much watering down of Christianity.

Sun mooon and stars are believers? oookay.
Let this be a lesson to all: Once you start allegorizing scripture, you can make it say whatever you want. I'll say the sun moon and stars represent street lights, which go dark, meaning there is a power cut worldwide. See how that works? I can make it say whatever i want.

Luke 17:
26Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man: 27People were eating and drinking, marrying and being given in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.

28It was the same in the days of Lot: People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. 29But on the day Lot left Sodom, fire and brimstone rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.

IOW, Jesus was saying everything will be NORMAL. The sun and the stars and the moon falling and being darkened is not part of normal and people won't marry or given to marriage or merry when the sun stops shinning.

Do you believe life will continue as is then Jesus comes and eternity?

My question is: What do you do with the book of Revelation and all its signs? That doesnt sound like NORMAL occurances to me. I can show you from the NEWS all the things I mentioned in my earlier posts that the worlds going CRAZY now, nothing is normal. Fish-deaths alone, nobody knows why its happening

Nothing is happening today that has not been happening, only the magnitude increases but that doesn't mean anything:

Matt 24: 6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. These things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains.

I'm not an amillenialist, i don't hold to any of those positions.

(Mine is cessation)

you sound like the devil tempting Jesus

nasty work but someone's gotta do it

it illustrates the difference between the spirit of anti-Christ and the Holy Spirit

if you are anti Holy Spirit, which it appears you are, then you are anti-Christ

so, even with your bad English and all I am sure you understand

the more you speak against the Holy Spirit, the darker your understanding will become but you won't know it

it's called deception. of course you will not agree which totally illustrates the truth to those of us who do not rail agains the Holy Spirit

“The Holy Spirit illuminates the minds of people, makes us yearn for God, and takes spiritual truth and makes it understandable to us.” –Billy Graham

The Holy Spirit is a beautiful and powerful part of who God is. We need Him in our life as a conduit to become who God created us to be, and through His power we have aid in all situations. Without Him, we are powerless.

Who is the Holy Spirit?

  • Our first encounter with the Holy Spirit is when He convicts us of our sin, shows us that none of us can live up to the righteousness of Jesus, and reveals to us the judgment that is coming to those who die without a Savior (John 16:8-11). As we repent, confess our sins and receive the gift of Salvation the Holy Spirit regenerates our dead inner human spirit which now becomes sensitive to the spiritual things of God (John 3:1-16; Acts 2:38).
  • There is a second work of the Holy Spirit when He baptizes a believer (Acts 2:1-4). It's available to all (Acts 2:39) and a gift of empowerment, helping the believer to live a holy life. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, the Helper, we become more like Jesus and are directed to do the Father's will. Furthermore, the gift is primarily for the empowerment to witness to others (Acts 1:8).
  • We are encouraged to ask the Holy Spirit to fill us up on a regular basis. When you feel depleted or need strength, ask Him to replenish you (Ephesians 5:18).
It's not enough to exist with the belief that The Father and the Son are first and the Holy Spirit is secondary. They are equal and work in harmony with each other. The uniqueness of the Holy Spirit is His presence within us. Jesus said before he ascended to heaven that the Holy Spirit would come and dwell within us as a believer. With that, He empowers us to live victoriously for the cause of Christ and glory of the Father.

it was not sincere. it was nothing more than a temptation or challenge

you are about as sincere as a cat telling a mouse it wants to be best friends

you are here to mock and I don't think anyone sees you any differently than that. if you were sincere, you would actually pay attention to scripture instead of continuing in your flesh and faulty reasoning

when you tried to squirm out of the fact that edification is not some sort of self seeking gratification, you said English is not your first language. yet, your English is better than some folks who do speak English for a first language

you do not have any honest investment in this thread so play that game with someone gullible who has not met the real you yet

Ok. I paid attention to the scriptures but came across this:

John 14:12Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I am doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

I'm simply asking (not mocking), why aren't you doing greater works than Jesus did? if you are, well and good, just say so.

I'm not a good communicator plus there's nothing extra i will do apart from asking these same questions that i'm asking now, so i will decline your offer.

Let's look at the works Jesus talked about, shall we:

John 9:
1Now as Jesus was passing by, He saw a man blind from birth, 2and His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

3Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but this happened so that the works of God would be displayed in him. 4While it is daytime, we must do the works of Him who sent Me. Night is coming, when no one can work. 5While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
6When Jesus had said this, He spat on the ground, made some mud, and applied it to the man’s eyes. 7Then He told him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). So the man went and washed, and came back seeing.

John 10:
31At this, the Jews again picked up stones to stone Him. 32But Jesus responded, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone Me?”
33“We are not stoning You for any good work,” said the Jews, “but for blasphemy, because You, who are a man, declare Yourself to be God.”

John 5:
1Some time later there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
2Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool with five covered colonnades, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda. 3On these walkways lay a great number of the sick, the blind, the lame, and the paralyzed.a
5One man there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. 6When Jesus saw him lying there and realized that he had spent a long time in this condition, He asked him, “Do you want to get well?”
7“Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am on my way, someone else goes in before me.”
8Then Jesus told him, “Get up, pick up your mat, and walk.”
9Immediately the man was made well, and he picked up his mat and began to walk.
Now this happened on the Sabbath day, 10so the Jews said to the man who had been healed, “This is the Sabbath! It is unlawful for you to carry your mat.”.......

16Now because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jews began to persecute Him. 17But Jesus answered them, “To this very day My Father is at His work, and I too am working.”

But you want us to believe that greater works is only limited to seeing people get saved?!!.

You have to do better than this. There's nothing wrong with accepting that you can not do greater works than Jesus, then we will help you understand why it is so. CESSATION.
