The church's greatest need is for a genuine national revival. Most Christians believe they long for a revival, but they show by their actions that actually don't. If they did, they'd have a passionate longing to know how historical revivals come, but in my experience, very few believers are interested enough to thoroughly research the matter. The videos I'm going to post on this thread have had a greater impact on me than any other online videos. Just watch this one on the great Welsh Revival of 1904-05:

The Welsh Revival of 1904-05 soon spread in 1906-08 to Azusa Street in Los Angeles, the place where global Pentecostalism was birthed--a revival that has led to 600 million converts. The spearhead of the revival is the most spiritually effective African American of all time, William Seymour, a man, tragically, that most modern Christians have never heard of. If you hunger for more of God and want to learn from the most effective prayer warriors ever, then you need to watch this excellent documentary:

I'm not sure why, but I was expecting this to be in black and white.

Then I started wondering, when was motion picture even invented? Probably not until after the revival.

I was expecting to see video of the actual revival and the sermon that started it off. And then I felt a little silly for expecting that.

So people need to watch videos to learn how to force a revival? I guess no need to involve God's timing.
The birth of Pentecostalism? Now i know where to point fingers. Also responsible for turning untold numbers away from God.
No, I've never heard of that long dead, non-biblical preacher, either. Though i suppose it's no tragedy since that's not who we are called to learn from.
African-American, such a worldly, PC culture term. Not sure how it fits into the 'turn away from the worldly things' revival to be using PC terminology.

Subhumanoidal: "So people need to watch videos to learn how to force a revival? I guess no need to involve God's timing."
I guess you're just another wannabe beiiever who doesn't long for more of God in your life. If you watched these videos, you would realize that God's timing is shaped by meeting God's conditions for revival.

Subhumanoid: "The birth of Pentecostalism? Now i know where to point fingers. Also responsible for turning untold numbers away from God.."
On the contrary, 600 million converts amounts to a lot of fruit from just one revival period. And with people jumping out of the windows to leave other churches, the phenomenal growth of Pentecostalism demonstrates what can happen when the Holy Spirit blesses Gospel preaching ministry. Beware of blaspheming aganst the work of the Holy Spirit. If you don't believe you have committed this grievous sin, then watch both videos and then explain why the events they describe are not of God. But watch out: if you are honest enough to watch these videos with an open mind, you will fall under the Spirit's conviction. I challenge to watch them and say otherwise!

Suhumanoid: "No, I've never heard of that long dead, non-biblical preacher, either. Though i suppose it's no tragedy since that's not who we are called to learn from."
You epitomize the essence of closed-minded bigotry. You dismiss this godly man without having a clue about who he was, what he die, how he prayed, what he experienced, and what his faith produced.

Subhumanoid: "African-American, such a worldly, PC culture term. Not sure how it fits into the 'turn away from the worldly things' revival to be using PC terminology."
Are you a racist, too?

The last great mass revival is the Hebrides awakening in 1948-1952. Duncan Campbell, a Presbyterian minister, was a central figure in that revival and his testimony about how the revival erupted and why is presented in this video. I have never heard a sermon that haunts and challenges me as much as his testimony. As you will see, the Presbyterian experiences of "falling under the power" (=being slain in the Spirit) are central to the move of the Spirit that ignites this electrifying revival:

"Watching this video will transform your attitude to prayer. I guarantee it!

The question for me is which Spirit is behind. It is not the HolySpirit.

wolfwint: "The question for me is which Spirit is behind. It is not the Holy Spirit."

So you dismiss as demonic when one night 100s of anti-religious young people suddenly and without any outside prompting, feel compelled to repent of their sins, embrace Christ as their savior and Lord, and then spend hours day after day just lost in praise and gratitude for Christ's forgiveness and His atoning sacrifice on the cross? What perverted view of the Gospel do you embrace? You are just another poster boy for pontification from ignorance. Study the sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit and then prayerfully consider whether you have just committed it!

I cant look in the heart of people.
But i know that slain in the spirit is not from the Holy Spirit.
And i know that Satan and his servants come as angel of the light for to deceive believers.

Theres been several I have heard about...and some preachers

Toronto airport blessing 1990s
Welsh revival
Smith wrigglesworth...?
Jesus movement 70s
Asuza st 1900s
Charles finney
Great awakening america 1800s
Moravian revival 1700s

Many come about because of much prayer and fasting. Although revival can also just mean an evangelistic campaign every few years to get people back to Christ via the church...set up a tent/stadium/rally and call everyone in.

One of the ladies in my bible study was saying her grandparents were in the welsh revival. The thing is even though there was revival doesnt mean the next generation will run with it cos not everyone in her family believes.

Great Historic Revivals and What Triggers Them...
Three things are the cause for God to send revival upon His People:

Prayer, more Prayer, and even more Prayer!

If there is NOT constant prevailing earnest Prayer, there will be NO revival! Psalm 26v4 with Luke 24v49, Acts 1v8.

Why you attack me Personal? I am taught that we should discern the Spirit. Nothing else i do.
How many people are dislead because they trust a false teaching from a false spirit, which claimes to be from God?

Wow! Fear mongering, trying to scare Subhumanoidal to subjection by warning of blaspheming the Holy Ghost and pretending the growth of pentecostalism is some miracle whiel other churches are dying.

AS someone who has dealt with and still does deal with pentecostalism/pentecostals, let me tell you why pentecostalism is growing:

Its growing because its WORLDLY! Its growing because its CARNAL! Its growing because of smoke machines, disco nights, emotionalism, name it claim it, promises of earthly wealth, worldly backstreet boys sodomite sounding moaning "praise"music, queer looking "cool" pastors with ripped skinny jeans and 40pounds of hairgel on with sermons about how great you are and how much of a great plan God has for you.
Its growing because nobody is preaching hard against sin and people are made to feel comfortable. (Quite literally in some churches, cup holders and everything in some "nondenom" churches)

Yeah.......... Thats some growth, NO WONDER its growing. Thats a terrible argument, did you know that ISLAM is growing even faster? Doesnt prove a thing.

And to top it all off: being against Political correctness somehow equals racism? I also am officially confiscating your "dudebro card" Hand it over! You lost it by using the word "bigotry". Thats the second one I have confiscated! The first guy lost it by saying "patriarchal misogony" or some other tonguetwister like that. Hahaha....... its sad. Christians have gone too soft! We need some real hairlegged redblooded men in the pulpits!

Yeah there is no discernment........ its unbelievable what passes as Christianity. I wish these heretics would stop calling themselves Christians and come up with another name. Or regular Christians could come up with another name i guess, im open to suggestions...

This is another thread I will have to leave right now, too depressing. I'll go for a walk!

First, readers, carefully notice that critics on this thread are pontificating from ignorance and have not educated themselves by watching the videos, so they might know what they're talking aobut.
Second, notice how this point is overlooked: only one revival video deals with the growth of Pentecostalism. The other 2 deal with revival fueled by Presbyterians, Congregationalists, and Baptists!

Hevosmies: "Wow! Fear mongering, trying to scare Subhumanoidal to subjection by warning of blaspheming the Holy Ghost and pretending the growth of pentecostalism is some miracle while other churches are dying.

You are blissfully ignorant of how the NT church understood Jesus' teaching about blaspheming the Holy Spirit. The only 2 Christian documents from the NT period that are not in the NT are the Teaching of the 12 Apostles (better known as Didache) and 1 Clement. [Ignatius's epistles are written a decade later.] Jesus does not explain how the sin of blaspheming the Holy Spirit is committed; so it is important to see how the NT church understood this sin. They understood it to mean a persistent refusal to be open to the revelation of divinely accredite prophetic manifestations:

"And every prophet who speaks in the Spirit you shall neither try nor judge; for every sin shall be forgiven, but this sin shall not be forgiven. But not every one who speaks in the Spirit is a prophet (Didache 11)."

The prolonged disciplined praying that ignites the prophetic conviction of sin that sparks the 3 great revivals celebrated in the videos warrants in depth study and imitation. Posters' intellectually dishonest dismissal of God's work in these revivals without bothering to watch them exposes their godless spiritual priorities and puts them in danger of blaspheming the Holy Spirit according to the understanding of the NT church.

AS someone who has dealt with and still does deal with pentecostalism/pentecostals, let me tell you why pentecostalism is growing:

Hevosmies: "It's growing because nobody is preaching hard against sin and people are made to feel comfortable."

On the contrary, it's growing because the manifestations and gifts of the Holy Spirit confront the sins of the people with unique power and conviction! I grew up Pentecostal and have had 3 Pentecostal uncles who preached repentance to great effect. You don't know what you are talking about.

Hevosmies: "It's [Pentecostalism] growing because its WORLDLY! Its growing because its CARNAL! Its growing because of smoke machines, disco nights, emotionalism, name it claim it, promises of earthly wealth, worldly backstreet boys sodomite sounding moaning "praise" music, queer looking "cool" pastors with ripped skinny jeans and 40pounds of hairgel on with sermons about how great you are and how much of a great plan God has for you."

Now you are resorting to the uneducated desperate expedient of creating a stereotype straw man from the loony fringe as an excuse to dismiss God's marvelous work of redemption. You really do need to read a book like "Jesus in Beijing" in which a NY Times reporter documents the conversion of 80 million Chinese to Pentecostalism through outpourings of the Spirit like in Acts 2 and not through the rubbish outlined in your godless slander.

Hevosmies: "And to top it all off: being against Political correctness somehow equals racism?"

More bigotry! First, I merely asked the question and leveled no accusation.
Second, American Blacks want whites to refer to them as "African Americans" and their wishes should be respected. After all, we routinely refer to Irish Americans, Italian Americans, and Asian Americans, etc. So any irrelevant objection to the designation "African Americans" rightly raises the question of racist motivation for this disrespect.
