Which translation of the bible do you use and why?

I use the KJV because it is the oldest. There are watered down translations like 'The Message', and they are watered down because they are cultural and more contemporary.

I hear using lexicons and learning the Greek and Hebrew language helps understand what is being said in the Bible.

I use the KJV because God said He would preserve His word to every generation...and He always tells the truth. Have you ever sat in a discussion group where they are using several versions???? Very confusing. God is not the author of confusion. I am glad He used the word AUTHOR...kinda clinches it for me..:)
There are several other reasons..but I am not into really long drawn out discussions on the comp...I do those with people I know and keep these things short.

I say don't limit yourself to one translation. Allow God to speak through whatever translation He will at the time. BUT, I only own NIVs and KJVs... The NIV is good when feeling sleepae - I canna handle the KJ at times like that :p

Also, the internet like has every translation imaginable. It is interesting to see any differences...

I use the King James, New King James and The Living Translation.

I like the Living Translation as it is easy to read and understand. It does not take too much away from the original translations.

However, If I am doing a study and want more indepth meanings on words, chapters, books or background etc I use the King James and use concordances against this version.

:)

all translations of the bible are tested against the septuagant, the vulgate, and dead sea scrolls, and other aintant sause documents, the king james bible is a word by word translation, a group of 47 scholars divided into 6 teams was apointed to undertake the task of puting it together, 3 teams worked on the old testament 2 teams worked on the new testament and 1 team worked on the Apocripha. it was published in 1611 Ad, the reason it is called the autharised version isnt because of its acuracy but because it was the translation autherised for the printers to print. it used the 1602 translation of the bishops bible as the basis of there revision and won the acceptance over the bishops bible as the autharised version, though the bishops bible witch was used as a guide in translating the king james wasnt as scolarly acurate as the geneva bible witch was the first compleate bible to be translated into english
the king james bible shouldnt be accepted for its acuracy because of its age for the same reason newer translations shouldnt be considered more acurate for being newer or more up to date. they are all tested and challenged correctly only when they are compared to the most reliable manuscript sauces of the aintant texts (that being the origanal documents witch there are none of )
there are manny translations of the bible in english witch when compared to these sauses are just as reliable as the king james version, some considered even more so, and manny have been tested and seen to be not as reliable.
in actualaty history shows that in bible translation the most authorative translations are the antiant texts witch all translations are compared to in order to test there acuracy.

Oh, also I've used several translations before NIV and with it currently. They seem to mesh pretty well, the NIV is just my personal preference.

I prefer KJV, but it can be a bit hard to understand at times..... I was raised strictly KJV, but as I get older I'm learning to be a little more open ;) If I don't understand something in the KJV, then I go to the NIV. *shrugs*

i would avoid the original KJV personally, because i have great difficulty imagining jesus and nhis mates using thees, verily, and such old english words. i reckon he would have used, like his parables, plain simple language that people understood.

I like the P e s h i t t a. It's been translated from the Aramaic the language that Christ spoke when He was in earthly form. It opens your eyes on some of the things that weren't translated so accurately.

I look at a verse from 16 different sources [translations and versions], to get a good feel for the verse.
Then, when I want to start really working that verse I'll go to Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, and Eastern Customs and Mannerisms, and Figures of Speech.

Wow! Some really great and useful info! I like the 1611 KJV but I like to use it against others like the New American Catholic Edition. There are some great interlinear Greek ones online too. I've got to check out this Pe****ta? Sounds Very interesting!

Hi, and God bless
The book you'll be looking for is called "The Holy Bible from Ancient Eastern Manuscipts" by Dr. George M. Lamsa

It's a great source , but not the only Aramaic source I use

Have a great day,

I prefer KJV,.I like KJ,. KJV is the best,. KJ is funny..!!??!!
Please! My version is different and nothing to do with the Bible.
Place "The" before "KJV" and I know you're not talking about me. :p

Anyhoo,.
From my helmet point of view, old translations have the finest quality but,
some words are so unfamiliar in today's ear, "Dictionary please!"
I suggest using the version that has the word "New" on it but,
Don't use The New World Translation - Jehovah's Witnesses Bible [1950]
Why? It's been contaminated! Please, stay away from this one.

Now,.
Can we talk about food in here? :D

I prefer the NKJV just because that's the version I grew up with so I'm used to it. I am currently using the NIV because the one I own can fit into my purse so I can carry it with me.
