addendum:

what part of DO NOT FORBID TO SPEAK IN TONGUES do you not understand?

and that was noted AFTER Paul gave correction and instruction

no

the perfect has not come and knowledge has not passed away

but you can operate on that if you so wish.
Oh I will...and JESUS is not a "THAT"..........and for sure he was COMPLETE from the day he stood AGAIN........

Get your facts straight dude....

Was JESUS loving the people when he drove out the money changers or was calling the Pharisees white washed coffins filled with the bones of dead men?

See.....you assume, mouth, accuse just like the one you referenced and when we fire back you put out the drivel and blather above........and the funny thing......you incessantly whine about God not using you.....maybe look at yourself then start accusing!

are you comparing a poster here on CC with the money changers at the temple?

or do you think of yourself as doing Jesus a favor with your obvious anger...which you deny of course by excusing yourself by saying you have taken on the character of Christ

you are just as refreshing now as you were the first time I ever had a ...er.....discussion blasting from you about tongues a few years back

did you forget the scriptures with this one?

arrogant much?'

chill dude. you are hurting yourself and obviously cannot handle a discussion because this appears to be too close to where you live

no one called Jesus anything and your anger is palatable

no matter how much you rage on, nothing will change because this type of anger is a sin

maybe you should change and try to make sense instead of attacking others who have done nothing to qualify the way you respond

or is that the only way you know how to respond

you have to ask why the topic of tongues stirs up so much anger

what is going to come next?

another inane video that is supposed to represent what tongues are or how they are used?

just make sure we never ever get to actually discuss scripture, but rather have to defend it because some believe it does not have any meaning in this day

Try reading it again and figuring out the context....I was comparing no one to anyone....the point is obvious.....just because we may light each other up once in a while does not mean that we HATE each other....geesh

Now you are just accusing......modus operandi of those that embrace carismaticism....and sure you did....THAT which is perfect is COME....you say he is a THAT by your stance.....

then why mention Jesus and the money changers

it's your point and that is how people see it. and they do understand what you are saying

I don't hate you at all. but I can come on strong as you do so don't misinterpret. you really do sound angry...maybe take that into consideration.

on this topic, I sometimes hurt over it and sometimes, yes, I do get angry

but as long as you come in like a bull in a china shop regarding this topic, I will be getting the china out of your way ;)

anyway

sigh

I don't embrace Charismatics and will never refer to myself as one of them. and not Pentecostal

I embrace what God gives and He has given me certain things you say no longer exist

but they do

the perfect argument cannot make sense to someone who is logical without seeing that knowledge would also have had to pass away

you said "Jesus is not a that" and now you say 'he is a THAT by your stance.'

and I have no idea what you meant by that. my IQ is either too low to appreciate 'that' or too high to give credence to 'that'

you invite hostilities whether you mean to or not

I really do not want to argue with you. you dove into this thread without first checking if there was enough water for that fancy dive

this isn't necessarily addressed to dcon, but my thoughts on his response which is the default position for some on this site

the Corinthian church received instruction from Paul

the NT is full of instructions and it seems people interpret them different ways

you ask why 'people use' these instructions because the church he sent these instructions to was, in your words, carnal etc...and yes they were in pretty bad shape

the interesting thing here, is that Paul didn't tell them they were going to hell or to shut up and never 'blabber around in tongues again'

nope. he did not do that at all

instead, he wrote down the instructions for how to act in a demeanor worthy of the gifts God gives by His Spirit

and you and others come along and for some reason, you think this is a bad example.

is it? let's see now.

David. bad example with regards to sin. how many men had to die because he numbered Israel? (I know...everyone thought I would mention Bathsheba but there is so much more) and then he had a man murdered by proxy, lied to everyone, ignored God over it etc...until he was called out by Nathan

and Moses who struck the rock and forfeited entering the promised land

and Abraham who kept lying about the fact the lovely Sarah was actually his wife

and Samson who had that affair and lost everything

and the entire nation of Israel who went a whoring

and really so much much more. individuals and an entire nation

yet God called everyone of those people and the entire nation

so why should the Corinthian church somehow become the example in scripture that is dirty and let's just ignore it?

since 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. II Timothy 3:16-17

why would II Corinthians be an exception?

Paul was reproving, correcting if you will and instructing the Corinthians so that they could be perfect and thoroughly furnished to all good works, tongues being a part of it

Paul said do not forbid to speak in tongues. yet you and others do

continue to do so at your leisure. it is simply an unavoidable fact that you have an opinion and believe that tongues and knowledge have ceased. tongues could not have ceased if knowledge has not ceased. you're not dumb. you know that but you continue to argue otherwise

those who speak in tongues and heed the instructions are not rolling in the aisles, barking or crowing or acting out in immature emotional chaos. apparently, many do not heed the instructions

nothing has changed from the time Paul wrote what he did up until now.

so your opinion is how you conduct yourself

ditto for those who are not cessationists

and of course there are no more carnal, immature and or worldly Christians so we can dismiss all instruction

we have arrived at the perfect. I just didn't think it would look like this

full preterists say we are living in the kingdom. I didn't think that would look like this either
Wish I could give you a big ol' hug for that.

what part of DO NOT FORBID TO SPEAK IN TONGUES do you not understand?
I used to focus on that part, but with this last study my mind has been drawn to 36Did God’s word originate with you? Or are you the only ones it has reached? 37If anyone considers himself a prophet or spiritual person, let him acknowledge that what I am writing you is the Lord’s command. 38But if anyone ignores this, he himself will be ignored. And for some reason it's been resonating with
Matthew 18:15-17 "If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother. "But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that BY THE MOUTH OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES EVERY FACT MAY BE CONFIRMED. "If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. I'm really inclined to believe that these uninstructed people, as Corinthians calls them, having refused repeated instruction, should be ignored like it says. They're not going to listen, and the bickering must look horrible to a new believer or someone on the fence.

Wonder how it looks for a new believer to see a supposed believer whining incessantly about the Lord not using them....?

Hilarious.......UNINSTRUCTED <---just another mouthy accusation from one that thinks they have the answers.....NOT!

I wonder what those that think "perfect" has already come have to say about the two witnesses of Rev. 11. Are they going to make new prophecy?

I don't think the perfect in 1 Corinthians 13 is past according to this verse: 1 Cor. 13:12 "For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known." Definitely looks like the future.

there is NO NEED fro NEW KNOWLEDGE.
that is you adding to scripture to support your suppositions.
Scripture does not state anything about NEW knowledge - stop adding to the word of God.

1. The two witnesses already came and went even at the time of writing that verse, the reason John was told to prophesy again. But i guess this is just some other noise to you.

2. Prophesy doesn't mean predicting the future, it is a word that has multiple meanings; including understanding the scriptures, understanding and interpreting what was prophesied, blessing other peoples hearts by making them joyous- we see in Kings and Samuel (in the OT), there was a group of prophets that prophesied through stringed instruments (music)

3. The perfect that was to come is 'perfect love' even as per 1 Cor 13. In the presence of this Love, everything that was partial aka gifts, has to cease. This same perfect love has been described in details in 1 John 4. In summary, perfect love is knowing God, and knowing God is loving one another. Saying that the perfect has not come means that the church after 2 millennia, doesn't know God and therefore doesn't love one another which also means that the Apostles, the 1st century church and God has failed at what they set out to do (God forbid).

4. No one can claim today that God has appointed them and what they are saying is from God or of God. It essentially means that the canon is still open and additions can be made because God is still speaking through His appointees. Not possible.

5. Some have questioned cessation and are even asking if knowledge has passed. It shows they are not knowledgeable on what they argue against. Knowledge just like tongues (language), will never cease, but the gift of knowledge and tongues ceased way back in the 1st century. It means the idea that one or two people are gifted above everyone else so as to teach others, is long gone. It was meant for spiritual babies in those days and Paul urged them to grow because it was 'childish'.

And people say; knowledge and other gifts will only cease when Jesus comes back. In the back of their minds, this is the picture they have: As soon as Jesus appears in the cloud, people's mind will go blank. They become zombies for Jesus.

The idea is unscriptural/ unpalatable/ laughable/ pitiable/ uninformed.

This idea is not worrisome to me, just childishness, the biggest worry to me is that this same group claim that they are being lead by the Holy spirit (God). How?!
