Some get overly critical and legalistic about their own behaviour.
Like a child learning to paint, keeping the paint on the brush and putting on the
paper is the first step. Compared to a developed painter it is rubbish.
But not painting at all, is like sinners who only serve themselves.

Love is righteousness when expressed to others through the power of Jesus.
So practising righteousness is doing something encouraging. This for instance
is an act of love, to encourage another brother in Christ to reach out and help
another to the Praise of His name.

Jesus put it in terms of giving water to the thirsty, food to the hungry, visiting people
in prison, inviting in strangers to ones house. We so easily dismiss the acts of love
flowing through us in every situation, not to boast or to get praise, but just because
we see the need and desire to love others.

Once one starts down this road, you begin to see what Jesus means, and how to
relate to others in their circumstances. Jesus did this for us, in coming to earth
and walking with the disciples and dying for us at the hands of the Romans.

Practicing righteousness is DESCRIPTIVE of believers. It describes the walk of faith. It is not prescriptive, (practice righteousness in order to be saved), it is descriptive, (those who are saved practice righteousness. )

Practising love

I was on a christian holiday, fairly simple, fixed camping with own cooking etc.
A couple who were not believers tried being nice to others. They found they got
rejected and hurt, and summarised the experience as, "Loving does not work."

What they did not realise was this is not about the response, but is the outflow of
our hearts to others. And whatever the response is not why we do it, it is because
Jesus's love in us just wants to share and encourage.

We can get quite discouraged when we do not spend time with Him, because the
source of our energy is His Holy Spirit, and our hearts rejoicing in Him.

The reality is, if you think love is simple, you will not last long, and soon will have
to withdraw and lick ones wounds. Sinners are not friendly nice creatures, but hurt
monsters, who hide under a veneer of being polite, lol

It is why we need the cross, no matter how absurd it sounds, this is who we are.

um, no, " we " do not all have serious emotional issues, so while yes we all need the Cross, the rest of what you said here does not apply to all...….

At any rate it does not matter, since more accurately the Blue Letter Bible should have listed it a "participle" to be accurate...to be even more accurate... an "articular participle"

Now participles are fundamentally verb/adjectives.

In this case it is not stating that we practice righteousness....like an athlete who practices shooting the basketball in the net and gets better at it, but rather.... WWWaaaaitttt for it

You do not mind if I do not believe you. YES to say I have to go to PRACTICE, would be a noun. But to say I need to Practice Righteousness. Righteousness in the NOUN, and Practice is the VERB.
