Someone I was reading the other day, was of the opinion that Paul's thorn in the flesh was his own people. They persecuted him terribly.
I believe it was his eyesite.

I am not making mistakes in the eyes of God, my constant referrals to the law are because that is what this thread is about. You may want to be over in "not by works" if salvation is all you wish to speak on. This is not the place for salvation only talk as this is about "laws". So please don't concern yourself needlessly about all the talk of law here. That is what it is for. I know where I am. I am saved. The law doesn't save me. I know that God sent His son to die for my sins. To pay my penalty. To set me free from the bondage of sin and death. I accept that freedom from the bondage of sin and death and happily walk in the saving grace of my Lord and Savior.
Jesus told us we no longer need to keep the law of Moses to be saved (as if keeping the law saves, only Jesus can do that) when he said:
"Truly, I tell you with certainty, unless a person is born from above he cannot see the kingdom of God."
(Joh 3:3 ISV)

Yes, Paul did write in large letters.

I thought the writer made a good point though when we remember how the Jews killed the apostles, the prophets, and persecuted Christians including Paul.

I cannot help wondering who their G/god really is.

Clearly nobody reads the first three lines of my signature or they would never propose the law as their saviour.

Jesus is the atonement for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. (1Jn 2:2)
Jesus came to draw ALL men unto Him (John 12:32) but many exercise their free will and reject him.
If you try to be made right with God through the law, your life with Christ is finished (Gal 5:4 ERV)

How does John 3:3 address the Law? The new birth was a mystery until after the arrival of the HOLY SPIRIT.

Ephesians 2:15 says the commandments are contained in ordinances, so if the ordinances were blotted out being nailed to the cross ((Colossians 2:14)) the commandments also were, with them, contained in them.
Yes, and I remembered I also wanted to add that there are some verses that seem to break the law into categories like precepts and judgments. But I think this is just a stylistic thing, a way of writing.

For example, I might say that I really wanted to join the local knitting club but they had just too many rules and regulations.

It's not that I think there are two separate categories, rules and then regulations. It's just a common way of talking in English, it kind of rolls off the tongue.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. (Joh 3:3 KJV)

Jesus was preaching it in his lifetime.

Jesus talked about it. There is no indiction He ever explained it. Again, I don`t see a connection to the Law here. This same Jesus said He didn`t come to destroy the Law.

If I understand you correctly what you are referring to is the difference between the Law/Torah and the tradition which are the commands of the religeous leaders AKA the oral tradition that became the basis for Judaism after 70AD.

Of course you do not see the law there. The law does not save, it condemns!

Jesus said to the woman at the well, "Thy FAITH has saved thee."

Jesus would not want to destroy the law. The law separates the sheep from the goats and condemns the wicked to Hell on the basis nobody can keep the law. There you have it. Law keepers beware.

Salvation was never the purpose of the Law and condemnation is caused by sin not God`s Laws.

Let this be a lesson to all the law freaks out there:

Then let it be known to you, men, brothers, that through this One remission of sin is announced to you. And everyone believing in this One is justified from all things which you could not be justified by the Torah of Moses. (Act 13:38-39 HRB)

I find your remarks unbiblical. You got any scripture to back up these claims?

Romans 3
31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

I already acknowledged that salvation is not the purpose of the Law.

Read about the sheep and the goats on Judgement Day.

Hi RickStudies, nice to meet you!

Well actually no, I was thinking of something different.

There are some verses like this one
Leviticus 25: 18. "'Therefore you shall do my statutes, and keep my ordinances and do them; and you shall dwell in the land in safety.

Some of my brothers and sisters here on this thread had put forward the idea, I believe, that this meant that there were different categories in the law that Moses wrote down in the wilderness.

Their thinking went further, I believe, to the idea that the rules in some of these categories were still in effect today, while others were not currently in effect.

But other of my Christian fellows were saying, I believe, that the entire law would remain in effect until either heaven and Earth passed away or everything was accomplished.

How is the law established through faith?
