Yes. I once quoted Ephesians 2:8,9 to a Roman Catholic and clarified that we are saved by grace through faith, not works and the Roman Catholic responded by saying, "I know that." That same Roman Catholic also denied that Roman Catholicism teaches salvation by works. Then after we discussed it a little deeper, it turns out the Roman Catholic contradicted himself and misinterpreted Ephesians 2:8,9 as such:

Saved by grace through faith "infused" with good works, just not by works of the law.

As you can also see, that Roman Catholic teaches saved by "these" works (good works) and just not "those" works (works of the law). The problem with that logic is you cannot dissect good works from the law. (Deuteronomy 6:5; Leviticus 19:18; Matthew 22:37-40) That same Roman Catholic also made this statement below:

We ARE saved by faith - as long as you properly define "Faith". Faith is NOT simply "believing". Faith INCLUDES: Being baptized, eating His body and drinking His blood/partaking the Lord's Supper during Mass, works of mercy and charity, obeying his commandments, doing the will of the Father etc..

His argument about faith being defined as and INCLUDES these works above (yet at the same time denying that Roman Catholicism teaches salvation by works) is just sugar coated double talk and equates to salvation through faith (his version of faith) + works.

They really have issues with Ephesians 2:8-9. No doubt about it.

The RCC teaches that grace is conferred through the sacraments of Roman Catholicism.

Just more nonsensical, hellish, worker for doctrine, that attempts to enslave the free believer back to "mother church".

Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Ephesians 1:6-7
To the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace;

The context is justification through and through. He's warning them not to become slaves of the law (the old covenant) because SLAVES DO NOT SHARE IN THE INHERITANCE. Slaves are not in line for the inheritance, only sons born by faith are.

Galatians 4:30
"the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son.”

That's how we know he isn't talking about them falling away from the growth of the believer in sanctification. The sanctification of the believer does not determine whether or not they possesses the inheritance (eternal life). Justification does.

If the discussion goes that way I'll share more about this matter of justification.

In Jewish Law, a verbal contract is LEGAL AND BINDING if you have 2 or 3 witness to the contract. THAT INCLUDES the Father on his death bed choosing the son HE WANTS to INHERIT all that he has; AND IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE AN OFFSPRING. Once Chosen that individual has the right to CALL HIMSELF SON of HELI (or what ever the Father's Name is). AND HE IF HE WANTS TO GIVE IT TO A SLAVE, he can, as long as there are 2 or 3 witnesses.

That is how HELI, Mary's Father ended up CHOOSING JOSEPH, as "SON" of inheritance, on the Mary's Genealogy list. It was illegal for any woman at that TIME in History, to Inherit Property, and HELI only had daughters. So he wanted it to go to MARY, so he had to designate Joseph her husband, THEREFORE JOSEPH had the RIGHT TO CLAIM THE INHERITANCE TITLE, SON of HELI.

There is a Law in ISRAEL, that will allow a SLAVE to become son of the Father. For example: SON of GOD, is NOT a designation of OFFSPRING, but rather the ONE CHOSEN to INHERIT all that the FATHER HAS, including HIS DEITY.

I am good.....had some good wind, small hail and no real damage here, but about 3 to 4 k up the road toward Richmond there are quit a few trees down....had some decent rain as well....all good overall....thanks for asking Ruby....how is WA going?

Amen! I have asked numerous works-salvationists in the past just how many works must they accomplish and "add" as a supplement to Christ's finished work of redemption in order to "help" Christ save them? Yet they never seem to have an answer.

Its the same thing here, yeah of course you're not saved by working this part of the law, its THAT part of the law you gotta work on to stay saved DUH.

Its not that you're saved by works its that you're STAYING saved by your own works of righteousness. <- This is another one that i've heard.

this is a great breakdown of what legalists do- they shout salvation by grace, but then backdoor " kept / maintained salvation" by exactly is what explained above.
