Baptism joins you to Jesus in his death, and therefore also his resurrection, a marriage if you can.
Speaking of marriage, a man and a woman become united through their wedding vows and the ring symbolizes this. Just as we become united with Christ through faith and water baptism symbolizes this.

Strictly speaking, the husband is united to his wife because of the marriage vows rather than the ring. Yet since the latter is the sign of their union, it is natural to speak of the ring with the reality it represents -- "With this ring, I thee wed," although placing a ring on the finger of your spouse is not what actually causes the change in your marital status, just like being water baptized is not what actually causes the change in your salvation status.

Acts 8 how does the eunuch know about baptism? All it says is Philip preached Jesus!
It is not hard to work out why baptism was integral to the gospel if we look at the culture of the day. Many religious groups demanded baptism by immersion in water as a sign that you were serious about the faith that you had joined. You could say you wanted to join a religion but unless you were water baptized, you were no taken seriously bearing in mind that it did not involve repentance and forgiveness of sin. That was exclusive to The Way as it was known.

Hearing that they had to repent and be baptized would hold no surprises for the new believers.

Jesus is my homie t-shirt? I think you are confusing me with Jessica Simpson. Becoming united with Christ through faith is the wedding and baptism (just like a wedding ring) symbolizes this. As Greek scholar AT Robertson points out, "a symbol is not the reality, but the picture of the reality."

Baptism would have no meaning without Christ’s death, burial and resurrection, but Christ’s death, burial and resurrection would still have meaning, even if there were no baptism. In other words, Christ’s death, burial and resurrection is the substance and baptism is the sign/symbol/picture. Without the substance there would be no sign/symbol/picture.

We aren't going to come to common ground on this. You can have symbolism, I'll have joining.

Dan is not denying the need to join with Christ. Earthly water simply does not accomplish this.

Jesus Himself makes a clear distinction on this matter.

Many fail to grasp it, and/or simply deny it.

I know what he means, and he knows what I mean. I don't need any explanation from you as to what someone else means. If there is some misunderstanding between me and another we can sort it out with out any assistance.
And like I said we ain't coming to any common ground on the matter so, I leave him to his, and he can leave me to mine, and the same goes for you.

I respond as I see fit, as do you. You are not my boss ;)

I did not give a directive. I gave a response that in no way said for you to or not to do anything but understand that we aren't coming to any common ground, and then offer you a deal.
But I can see by the way you interpreted what I wrote how you come to your interpretation of the Bible.

You basically told me to shut up, despite your blatant denial of that fact.

I am not blind.
I told you that I don't need your input, which does not remove your freedom to give it. It simply let's you know that I don't need it so I disregard it. Think of it as a courtesy really, so you don't waist your time responding to me. Because we don't agree on anything.

You keep responding which is not disregarding. I am not wasting my time to offer correction to error, even if you keep rejecting it; someone who is more open to the Truth than you are may benefit.

The t-shirt part is humor. I figured I would explain being that someone else interjected thinking I was mocking. Sorry no mockery intended, I was just trying to add levity.

If you believed he understood what you meant, why bother explaining to Dan now?

Oh, I get it, really, I do. It is just more of your denials :oops::rolleyes:
