It may not seem like a temptation if one is used to doing it but once they try to stop they will notice there is always the initial temptation. The prompting to gossip originates from the evil one, and we accept it as out own idea. That may be over simplifying it but that initial prompting can be resisted and if so we have not sinned. We cannot stop thoughts from coming to our minds but by not acting on them we have resisted the temptation. Don't you think?
AMEN

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:7 KJV

Yes, as the book of James says we are drawn away by our own lusts
Amen and amen!
And it also explains that those lusts are what, if acted upon, bring forth sin. So all sin begins with temptation.
For if nothing temps us to break the law we would never do it. Not loving our neighbour means we are tempted to disobey Gods command, to have a momentary pleasure of rising up in our flesh, which is always wanting to have dominion and do what it wants (It wars against the Spirit). All sin comes forth from temptation but that originates from within us ever since the fall sadly. This is why we need not to fight it but to crucify it daily. The Lord understands however that we are not born of pure seed as He was and our flesh is indeed still weak, however willing our spirit becomes. We have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in our struggle against sin, but thank the Lord He did on our behalf.

Thinking about the way of escape is what we must do when we are tempted. There is always a way out. Sometimes it is changing the subject, sometimes it is walking away. There is always a way of escape, we have to look for it.

My point was to show sin can be just a reaction a every day thing we're not even aware of.

Sin is not a choice to the person who is Unregenerate.

But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
Hebrews 12:8 KJV

Man could not help themselves thats why God sent his Son Jesus to do for us what we could not do for ourselves

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Ephesians 1:7 KJV

Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
Romans 3:24‭-‬25

In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
Colossians 1:14 KJV

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
Romans 8:1‭-‬3 KJV

Sin is not a choice to the person who is Unregenerate.
Hello again AlmondJoy, while I believe that I understand what you are saying, that the unregenerate man/woman is a slave to sin because that is what they desire most in this world, so they will always/freely choose to sin when they could have chosen to act according to righteousness instead (if righteousness was their principle desire instead of sin, that is).

And just to be clear, you do not mean that there is a third party (like God) who is overwhelming their free will choices and 'causing' them to sin/leaving them with no choice but to sin (causing them to do what they would have never chosen to do on their own), do you

Thanks :)

I have heard people say for years that Christians HAVE to sin everyday.

Do we not choose to give into temptation when we do?

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV

If God provides a way of escape when we are tempted then we must make a choice to sin.

If we choose to sin, can we not also choose not to?
Love your username I used be obsessed with butterfinger before I became diabetic.
Yes sin is a choice, it isn't that we have to sin it's that we like everyone else are human some days I try to see if how long I can go without sinning eventually messing up of course but then again temptation is perhaps my greatest weakness it's actually good thing I am diabetic because I would likely be a major alchohalic

We are all tempted it is the act of acting on that temptation that makes it a sin

Actually think of it this way sin is the act of disobeying God but an act is a choice we willingly do it but an act to do something is a verb, there are some who like to complicate it by several ways some claim to be without sin which in of itself is a sin for only Jesus is sinless, others divide wilful sin with unwilling sin an accidental sin
And if we didn't chose every act of sin then we could not be held responsible for it but luckily Jesus took that responsibility for us

We are all tempted. Even Christ faced temptation but he never gave in to it.

He released us from the power of sin, we are no longer slaves to it.
Romans 6
17But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, 18and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.

We sometimes deliberately choose to sin, other times we have sinned in ignorance. But thanks to Christ, no one, Including our own old self, can force us to sin. There is ALWAYS a way to escape it if we look hard enough and choose resist and flee.
1 cor 10
13No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
14Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.

We do sin still as believers but we do not make it our habitual practise. If we make it our lifestyle by habitually practicing it then it is evidence we are not born again and the Lord is not working His will and His ways in us by the power of His Spirit. We should always strive to practise righteousness as believers but at times we will and do fall short. We always have the option to turn to God in our times of weakness, and He can deliver us from every temptation if we were completely serious about it. But truth be told we are not able to perfectly exist without sinning in this fallen flesh. It will at times get the better of us sadly, and we are totally responsible for those occasions.

1 john 1

5. This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
Sin, Its Reality and Remedy
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
Do you think jesus could have sinned?

Not so. God has given every human being a conscience, and the conscience in fact has the Law (the Ten Commandments) embedded in it. See Romans 2.

Behind every sin is an initial invitation to go against the will of God. There is no compulsion. We retain the right to say either yes or no, to yield or not to yield ourselves to it.

I am not going to say that I sin every day. I don't think it is biblical. If we define things like not being as productive with our time as a sin then it would be easy to say we sin everyday but I think we are redefining the definition of sin when we do that.
The biblical definition of sin, transgressing the law or the commandments of God is not something I think I do every day.
If I decide to take a nap I do not condemn myself as slothful. Some others do and so they consider themselves being guilty of the sin.
If I say something nasty or mean, or provoking or condescending, to a member on CC because I don't like what they posted, I have sinned and should repent. I don't do that every day and I am trying to never do it. I think I have done it before in the past. It is not nice and not love and that is a sin because it is a transgression of the command to love and of the admonition "the servant of the Lord must not strive but be patient with all men apt to teach.. etc.."

Maybe some people do sin every day. They need to stop. We can do something about such uncontrolled lives and we better because holiness and obedience is a not a suggestion. It is a commandment.
I think we should also add the following to the definition of sin
Sin is defined as the thought of foolishness (Proverbs 24:9)

All the temptations we face stop or continue at the door of our thought.

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Galatians 5:16 KJV
If we believe this as it is written, why then do we still believe it is impossible not to sin?

If God provides a way of escape when we are tempted then we must make a choice to sin.

If we choose to sin, can we not also choose not to?

10 They say to the seers,[b] ‘Don’t see ⌞the future⌟.’
They say to those who have visions,
‘Don’t have visions that tell us what is right.

Tell us what we want to hear. See illusions.
11 Get out of our way! Stop blocking our path!
Get the Holy One of Israel out of our sight.’ ”

9 These people are rebellious and deceitful children,
children who refuse to listen to the Lord’s teachings.

“My people travel through lands
where they experience distress and hardship.

15 This is what the Almighty Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says:

You can be saved by returning to me.
You can have rest.
You can be strong by being quiet and by trusting me.

But you don’t want that.

But you don’t want that.
16 You’ve said, “No, we’ll flee on horses.”
So you flee.

You’ve added, “We’ll ride on fast horses.”
So those who chase you will also be fast.

18
The Lord is waiting to be kind to you.
He rises to have compassion on you.
The Lord is a God of justice.
Blessed are all those who wait for him

12 This is what the Holy One of Israel says:

You have rejected this warning,
trusted oppression and deceit,
and leaned on them.

20 The Lord may give you troubles and hardships. But your teacher will no longer be hidden from you.

You will see your teacher with your own eyes. 21 You will hear a voice behind you saying,
“This is the way. Follow it, whether it turns to the right or to the left.

Isaiah 30
