God is not the author of confusion, quite the opposite, He is a God of order.
Good to see you.
This is quite a day for the world and His own as we stay in prayer for His perfect will to be done, in His world and in each of our lives.
A lot of "trouble" disappears when we focus out on others and not ourselves.

Sigh! I seem to have trouble either way, Shittim. Whenever I try to help people outside of my work specialization, things go wrong. I spent the first 38 years of my life hearing my mother ask, every time she saw me, "Can't you do anything right?!"

That sounds like a root of a lifetime curse, your mother cursed you with that thought and you have replayed it over and over. When we accept Christ as our Savior and make Him Lord of our life scripture clearly explains ALL THINGS BECOME NEW. To the point our ancestry goes back to Him, what you mother cursed you with is null and void. Jesus said you are the righteousness of God in Christ, staying in Christ, ensuring His thoughts are your thoughts, His actions are your actions, with every thought word and deed.
Replaying what your mother said is not Jesus thoughts, when you keep your focus on Christ you will have no room for the negative thoughts.

In January, 1980, the man who had led me to Christ 2 years before sat down with me and wrote out the fruit of the Spirit, as outlined in the NIV version of Galations 5:22-23. "22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." He then asked me how I thought that I had progressed in the fruit of the Spirit over the last 2 years. My responses might be familiar to some: "Definitely more love, forbearance, kindness, and gentleness.", "Joy, peace, goodness, and faithfulness, hmm...hard to tell.", and "Self control, ouch!" He then told me that he had seen "no improvement in love, no improvement in joy, no improvement in peace..." and so on, through every one of the fruits. I was devastated. He then said that he didn't believe that the Holy Spirit was at work in me.
Our "Discipling meeting" (in the Navigators' style) ended then, and I went on down the street, practically staggering in shell shock, praying "Oh God, how have I managed to fail at something that noone is supposed to be able to fail at?!" Ever since then, I have been in severe doubt of my own salvation, and even humanity. I have tried to kill myself 4 times--it probably says something about my competence that I am still alive and kicking. I have learned to endure, and am not presently suicidal, but I still want to discuss this with someone who will actually listen to me, rather than transmute what I say out of all recognition through their own prejudices. No offense intended, but that has been a common experience of mine, even with supposedly trained counselors, psychologists, and psychologists.
A few short studies that should be of help to you can be found Here, Here, Here, Here and Here

I hope that helps. We have all been given and heard studies upon studies, teachings upon teachings.
Few understand, have received, and walked in the Holy Spirit who Jesus sent to indwell told us and would guide us in ALL truth.
Thus many needlessly struggle when Jesus paid everything for our healing and restoration 2,000 years ago at the cross, if we would only receive it and walk in His gift.
There are only 2 kingdoms, unworthiness, lack, self doubt are not from His kingdom.
His kingdom supplies love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self control.
Best wishes

hi,bro Forlorn
You seem to care about what others think of you a long time.
If others think you are unhappy, are you really unhappy.who really knows but yourself.
At that time, whether that person's evaluation of you is accurate or not.
You screwed up everything,It can be said that you didn't realize that you made other people's words true.Although you don't want to.

How can God not love you? Why does Jesus reject you? It's good that you have this feeling. It shows that you care about God and Jesus.
If you knock, he will open the door for you.
If you want fish, how can god gives you a stone.

I think if I were the Holy Spirit, I would tell you
How come the more you believe, the weaker you become?should be more you believe, the better you become.

I hope what I said won't hurt your confidence, but encourage you.

Amen

Hi, soberxp!

I care that I do good, not evil
I care that I am a blessing, not a curse
I care that I tell the truth, including to myself
How can I not care what I do to those around me,
both the saved and the unsaved,
because they are beloved of the Lord.
How can I not examine myself,
when they accuse me of doing evil?
How can I not worry,
when they accuse me of being evil?
Do you think that I lack compassion?
Or, do you think that I SHOULD lack compassion?
How can I not feel shame and guilt,
when I have unintentionally hurt them?
How can I not fear,
when evidence has been shoved into my face
that Christ,
my only hope,
has rejected me?

Beginning in line 7 you leave keeping your mind "stayed on Him" and go to looking at the world through your own lens and not His.

These ideas showing you are humble of mind.
I've had all these feeling before,
Sometimes learn to forgive yourself, or ask God to forgive you.

and trying to do these 7 things as best as you can.
bowels of mercies,
kindness,
humbleness of mind,
meekness,
longsuffering,
forgiving one another,
and above all these things put on charity

I believe you can doing well.

Amen

I don't want to forget what has happened in my life, but I do want to see it from God's perspective--as humanly possible, of course :)
Can you tell me what to do instead? I am already doing what you have told me to do so far, and have done for years, but it doesn't seem to help.

Receive the restoration, healing and blessing He already has paid for.

True, and thank you, shittim, but how do I do this? People keep giving me goals, but never techniques.

Pray without ceasing, said it several times. Pray in the divine language without ceasing, if you don't have it. ask for it. He freely gives.

I don't know if I have the divine language or not. I have prayed in tongues, but since Mike said his piece, I am never sure whether it is the Holy Spirit, or my own imitation. No noticeable response when I ask in prayer. Aarrgghh!!

He always gives confirmation in the spirit when we pray in the divine prayer language.

we don't "try it a couple times" we stay praying without ceasing. Walking with Him is a lifetime, eternal, process, not an event. it is an ongoing complete lifestyle for eternity, not a quick fix.
Your handle here is "forlorn" when we can't be since Jesus indwells the believer, He is never forlorn.

If there is a problem it is never on His end, it is ALWAYS down here and on our end.
