Christ will exercise his Kingly authority on Earth when the 7th trump sounds:

Rev 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

The rod of iron reign only begins after Christ has come:

Rev 2:25 But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.
Rev 2:26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
Rev 2:27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

The saints reign will be on the Earth not from heaven:

Rev 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
Rev 5:10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the EARTH.

second coming:

Rev 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

After the second coming:

Rev 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

All these prove a literal kingdom with Christ and his saints physically here on the Earth literally ruling over human beings of various nations.

You do realize the "rod of iron" reign is momentary, right? There is no "1,000 year reign of Christ over the wicked on Earth" according to Isaiah.

In Isaiah 2:1-9 KJV, God says He's going to give the entire Earth to Jesus as His inheritance, at which time He destroys it along with the wicked. This is in perfect alignment with the Stone of Daniel 2 which scores a direct hit on the statue of kingdoms and crushes them to dust at His Second Coming, after which He will set up His eternal kingdom "wherein dwelleth righteousness".

The rod of iron rule is for a thousand years. Did you know what the word RULE means in Greek?

G4165
poimaino

From G4166; to tend as a shepherd (or figuratively superviser): - feed (cattle), rule.

To tend is to take care of! A supervisor watches over his employees, not kill them! A shepherd controls and protects his flock and that is the type of rule that shall be not the judgment and destruction of the wicked. They are protected from the deceptions of satan for the entire thousand years. It is clear error to mix the concept of shepherding with judging and punishing and killing. In addition, they will have no way to group and form together to rebel during this time which is expressed by the vessels being broken up. The pieces are individuals and the vessels represented the previous way they had been grouped together in evil armies and kingdoms and governments etc. in opposition to Christ.

11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved
, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Oops, my bad. I said "Isaiah" but I meant to write Psalms 2:1-9 KJV. It proves that the "Rod of Iron" reign is momentary at the Second Coming when God hands over the Earth to Jesus - and perfectly matches what Daniel says about the Stone striking the kingdoms of the Earth in chapter 2.
.
2:1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
2:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, [saying],
2:3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
2:4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
2:5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
2:6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
2:7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou [art] my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
2:8 Ask of me, and I shall give [thee] the heathen [for] thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth [for] thy possession.
2:9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

This passage and the one in Revelation are both dealing with the same event...yet here it is plain the "rod of iron" reign is very short. You are free to continue believing what you want, but if you find that trying to insert this square peg passage into your round hole scenario proves impossible, I'd be happy to present an extra-Dispensational interpretation for you. Peace.

The rule is not momentary. The initial breaking is, but the ruling comes after the breaking and that rule is a thousand years. Remember, the word "rule" in the Greek means to tend as a Shepherd not break or harm.

Rev_2:27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

Barnes:

As the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers - The ironic here is that of the vessel of a potter - a fragile vessel of clay - struck with a rod of iron and broken into fragments. That is, as applied to the nations, there would be no power to oppose His rule; the enemies of his government would be destroyed. Instead of remaining firm and compacted together, they would be broken like the clay vessel of a potter when struck with a rod of iron.
Rev_2:27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

Rev_12:5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

"Rule"
G4165

poimaino¯
poy-mah'ee-no
From G4166; to tend as a shepherd (or figuratively superviser): - feed (cattle), rule.

Some people don't understand what a supervising shepherd does when he TENDS a flock under his control. To tend is to take care of! A supervisor watches over his employees, not kill them! A shepherd controls and protects his flock and that is the type of rule that shall be not the judgment and destruction of the wicked during the Millennium. They are protected from the deceptions of satan for the entire thousand years. It is clear error to mix the concept of shepherding with judging and punishing and killing. In addition, they will have no way to group and form together to rebel during this time which is expressed by the vessels being broken up. The pieces are individuals and the vessels represented they previous way they had been grouped together in opposition to Christ.

There is another use of this vessel being destroyed and it is not about killing people but breaking up an organization of people who rebel against God:

Isa 30:12 Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and stay thereon:
Isa 30:13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant.
Isa 30:14 And he shall break it as the breaking of the potters' vessel that is broken in pieces; he shall not spare: so that there shall not be found in the bursting of it a sherd to take fire from the hearth, or to take water withal out of the pit.

The metaphor of a vessel being broken is never about individuals being killed. God didn't kill every Jew. But their rebellion and sin against him caused the demise of their chosen status, even the covenant between them and God. Fast forward to the Millennium and again those who rebel against Christ shall have their wicked organizations broken up, leaving them powerless and unable to organize against Christ during this period of TIME of the reign/rule with a rod of iron. They live to be reigned over. When God allows satan to deceive them, then a brief and failed rebellion occurs and they are killed and judged and are no more forever.

Barnes:

As the breaking of the potter’s vessel - That is, as an earthen, fragile vessel, which is easily dashed to pieces. The image here is all drawn from the bursting forth, or the complete ruin of the swelling wall; but the sense is, that the Jewish republic would be entirely broken, scattered, demolished.

Psa 2:9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

Barnes:

Psalms 2:9

Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron - That is, evidently, thine enemies, for it cannot be supposed to be meant that he would sway such a scepter over his own people. The idea is that he would crush and subdue all his foes. He would have absolute power, and the grant which had been made to him would be accompanied with authority sufficient to hold it. That dominion which was to be conceded to him would be not only one of protection to his friends, but also of punishment on his enemies; and the statement here is made prominent because the former part of the psalm had respect to rebels, and the Messiah is here represented as being invested with power sufficient to punish and restrain them. The Vulgate renders this “thou shalt rule;” the Septuagint, “thou shalt feed - p??µa?e??? poimaneis; that is, thou shalt feed them as a shepherd does his flock; thou shalt exercise over them the care and protection of a shepherd.

The passage is clear that the kingdoms are going to be "dashed to pieces" meaning they're going to disintegrate.
The Greek for "Shepherd" means to tend not to break or cause harm.
Shepherds rule over the entire countryside, do they not? They comfort their flocks but also DESTROY bears, lions, wolves, etc., and any other enemies that threaten them. Jesus is NOT going to comfort the wicked, He's going to "dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel."

How does 2 Peter 3:10 KJV fit into the popular scenario which says Jesus will come "as a thief in the night" to rapture away the church, after which the wicked and the Jews will be left behind to go through the tribulation?

2 Peter 3:10 KJV says the destruction which accompanies the Lord's coming "as a thief in the night" won't allow for even 7 more minutes of anything down here, let alone 7 more years of tribulation, yes?

The bible says Christ will rule/Shepherd the nations and that happens for a thousand years. The ruling has nothing to do with the smiting/killing at the beginning of the second coming at Armageddon. The peaceful ruling comes AFTER Armageddon.

This is what ewq1938 is referring to...

Daniel 7:11-12
11 I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame.

12 As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time.

1) Burning Flame Event = The initial breaking

2) The rest of the beast's live for a time a season after the coming of the Messiah. This is the Millennium Reign.

Perhaps you can help me find the things claimed by those teaching a Literal 1,000 year Millennial Kingdom On This Earth in Revelation 20:1-6 below?

1.) Physical Earthly Kingdom?
2.) Physical Earthly Throne?
3.) Physical Mortal Humans?

The Above Claims (Don't Exist), A 1,000 Year Millennial Kingdom On This Earth, Is A Man Made Fairy Tale (Fact)

Revelation 20:1-6 Is 100% In The Lords (Spiritual) Angel, Heaven, Devil, Satan, The Souls, The Dead, God, Christ?

100% Spiritual Realm, No "Literal" Time (Fact)

2 Peter 3:8KJV
8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Revelation 20:1-6KJV
1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.
4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger. This is clearly an OT prophecy of the Second Coming when "at the presence of the Lord" Jesus, the wicked will be consumed "at the brightness of His coming" at the same time the cities, mountains, islands, atmosphere, EVERYTHING is destroyed.

Jeremiah speaks of this same event in chapter 25 when he says God is coming with FIRE to take vengeance upon "all flesh" all over the world, and says, "the slain of the Lord in that day shall be from one end of the Earth even to the other end of the Earth." Can you see that at the Second Coming, there's not going to be any "1,000 year rule of Christ" over the wicked? They are going to run for the rocks and mountains. The 1,000 year reign is over the saints in heaven while the Earth lies destroyed.
The bible says Christ will rule/Shepherd the nations and that happens for a thousand years. The ruling has nothing to do with the smiting/killing at the beginning of the second coming at Armageddon. The peaceful ruling comes AFTER Armageddon.
The Tree of Life is "for the healing of the nations", is it not?

Now, is the Tree of Life on Earth? Of course not. It's in "the paradise of God" which is where God's throne is and is from which the River of Life flows, above which is the Tree of Life, under which the leaves are for "the healing of the nations".

Can you see that the "nations" over which God will rule doesn't necessarily refer to geographic location but to a specific class of people (namely, the "righteous") irrespective of geographic location?

This is what ewq1938 is referring to...

Daniel 7:11-12
11 I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame.

12 As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time.

1) Burning Flame Event = The initial breaking

2) The rest of the beast's live for a time a season after the coming of the Messiah. This is the Millennium Reign.
This is symbolism. A "beast" is a kingdom, not a man. The "Beast" or "Little Horn" arises after the destruction of the four other beasts, namely Babylon, Medo Persia, Greece, and Rome. This Little Horn Beast was to arise among the Ten Horns, the ten barbarian tribes which invaded and destroyed the Roman Empire, and this Little Horn was to continue until the end of time and to its appointed day of destruction (which proves it's not an individual, but a kingdom).

Now, the symbolism refers to the other beasts "who had their lives prolonged". Since we cannot interpret this literally, seeing that these empires are long gone, the only explanation is that the "philosophies" of these kingdoms is what lives on, all of which make up the characteristics of the Little Horn:

Babylon: Sun god worship
Medo Persia: irrevocable code of law demanding strict (blind) obedience
Greece: human wisdom exalted over God's Word
Rome: iron fist (and nails) persecution and death of anyone who dares oppose it

Forget Jesuit Futurism and get to know Protestant Historicism. These are among the almost countless reasons why the Protestant Reformers all saw in Scripture that the Papacy is the Little Horn Antichrist, and is why Spurgeon wrote, "It is the bounden duty of every Christian to pray against Antichrist, and as to what Antichrist is, NO SANE MAN ought to raise the question. If it be not the popery in the Church of Rome, there is nothing in the world that can be called by that name."

There will be a thousand years reign on earth of Jesus and His saints that rule over the heathen that God spared at the battle of Armageddon.

Luk 19:16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.
Luk 19:17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.
Luk 19:18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.
Luk 19:19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.

The saints will rule with Jesus.

Zec 14:1 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.
Zec 14:2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
Zec 14:3 Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.
Zec 14:5 and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.

Joe 3:1 For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem,
Joe 3:2 I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.
oe 3:9 Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up:
Joe 3:10 Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong.
Joe 3:11 Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O LORD.

Rev 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
Rev 19:12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
Rev 19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
Rev 19:14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
Rev 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
Rev 19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

Eze 39:2 And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel.

The battle of Armageddon is when the antichrist, New Age Christ, and the world, attacks Israel after God put them all back on their land, and then Jesus comes back with all the saints and defeats the world, and saves Israel, and Jesus and the saints rule over one sixth of the heathen that God spared.

Zec 14:9 And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.
Zec 14:16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

Eze 39:21 And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them.
Eze 39:22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward.

Jesus will be King over all the earth, and in that day there shall be one LORD, and His name one, which means that the heathen will only acknowledge Jesus and no other religious figure or god.

God will set His glory among the heathen, and the heathen have to go up year after year to Jerusalem to worship Jesus.

This is on earth for there is no heathen in heaven.

Mat 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Jesus came to fulfill the law by being a sinless man obeying God's commandments perfectly, and fulfilling all the roles of Israel which He is the perfect King, High Priest, Prophet, saint, and is the temple and sacrifice.

This must be fulfilled on earth, but Jesus has not fulfilled the role of perfect King on earth for He came as a humble servant.

Jesus will fulfill the role of perfect King on earth during the millennial reign fulfilling all of the law, and then heaven and earth shall pass away, and there will be a new heaven and earth the New Jerusalem.

Isa 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

Joh 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Joh 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Rev 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
2Pe 3:11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
2Pe 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
2Pe 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

God will create a new heaven and a new earth, which Jesus went away from the earth to prepare a place for the saints, and the first heaven and earth shall not be remembered nor come to mind for they are associated with sin and rebellion and God does not want them to remember that so the angels and saints will remember nothing prior to the New Jerusalem but will feel as if they have always been there and nowhere else which is a place wherein dwells righteousness where sin has never been and sin will never be, and sin and rebellion will never come up again.

The former heaven shall dissolve with fervent heat, and the earth shall be burned up and all the works of it for the heaven and earth has been tainted with sin and all sin must be purged with fire.

Psa 63:9 But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.

Eph 4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
Eph 4:9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
Eph 4:10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

Rev 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

The wicked shall go in to the lower parts of the earth, which Jesus went to the lower parts of the earth and conquered death and hell, which death and hell shall be cast in to the lake of fire, so the earth shall be cast in to the lake of fire where it will be burned up and all the works of it.

There will be a millennial reign on earth which Jesus and the saints will rule over the heathen and Jesus fulfills the role of perfect King on earth, and then the law will be fulfilled perfectly and heaven and earth shall pass away, and there will be a new heaven and earth the New Jerusalem.

Rev 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

Bravo
I look forward. The spirit & the bride say COME!
The messianic age of earth is one of the main & most exciting themes of prophecy & a big part of the gospel message.
Jesus bought with his blood, the right to sit on the throne, on the earth.

Isaiah 2
This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:

2 In the last days

the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established
as the highest of the mountains;
it will be exalted above the hills,
and all nations will stream to it.
3 Many peoples will come and say,

‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the temple of the God of Jacob.
He will teach us his ways,
so that we may walk in his paths.’
The law will go out from Zion,
the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4 He will judge between the nations
and will settle disputes for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into ploughshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nation,
nor will they train for war any more.

Romans 8
18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God. 22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.
