We have recently seen how some wish to promote the idea of two Gospels, when there is only one Gospel (with various designations) or Good News. We have also seen how some desire to confuse justification with sanctification and expect the Gospel to include both. And then we have the traditional ideas that salvation is by grace through faith + something (either good works, or sacraments, or the perseverance of the saints), when that is not included in the Gospel.

But none of this would happen if people simply went to the Bible and searched the meaning of the Gospel. The key passage is 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 followed by Acts 2:22-40.

THE GOSPEL = THE DEATH, BURIAL, AND RESURRECTION OF CHRIST

1 CORINTHIANS 15: THE GOSPEL
1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the Gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

ACTS 2: THE GOSPEL
22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool.
36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

As we can see, both Peter and Paul presented the Gospel as the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Peter included in the Gospel message God's command to repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. He further included Christ's command to be baptized immediately after believing the Good News. And Paul said that we are saved by the Gospel. Which means that we are saved by believing that Jesus of Nazareth -- who is God -- shed His blood for our sins, and offered Himself as the Lamb of God for our redemption.

When a person believes this and truly repents (turning away from all sins and idols), God justifies that sinner by His grace, and imputes the righteousness of Christ to that person.

Christians the world over remember how Christ was crucified as the Passover Lamb on Calvary on the 14th of Nisan, AD 30 on Good Friday. He was crucified on a Wednesday, but Good Friday has become the day of remembering the death of Christ, and Easter Sunday has become the day of remembering His resurrection. This is the heart of the Gospel.

Thinking slowly through this ,why would you ( or anyone) choose Acts 2.38 in a transitional book consisting of 28 chapters spread over many years and say thats the plan of salvation today ? literally makes no sense . But here we are many denominations landing on Acts 2.38 ? crazy !

There is nothing transitional about the Gospel which was preached by Peter. Kindly present your *version* of the Gospel is you cannot see that.

Christian, you are correct.

Jesus said repeatedly that in order to be saved you must believe in Him. He made it quite simple.

When people give extravagant gifts people often wonder "what's the catch?" finding it hard to believe that they've been given an inheritance worth more than silver and gold by simply accessing the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ.

They want more, they desperately want more, and they'll turn over every rock to find an explanation.

The answer for why the gospel exists is love, plain and simply.

John 3:16-17
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Romans 5:6-11
6For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
7For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
8But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us
9Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
10For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
11And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

The gospel is “good news” of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) and is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes... (Romans 1:16) To “believe” the gospel is to trust in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ as the ALL-sufficient means of our salvation.

Do you think, in Acts 2, Peter would also have told the "Men of Israel" that they are now dead to the Law, as what Paul would state in Romans 7:4?

The Gospel is the Gospel. But, yes, much later on the apostles and elders continued to teach the new converts the depths of their salvation. As we read very briefly: And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. (Acts 2:42).

We need to understand that the disciples were all strict Jews under the Law of Moses, and it took some time for them to move towards their liberty from the Law. Initially Peter did not even want to associate with Gentiles, but later on he had read all of Paul's epistles and declared them to be Scripture. Which means that Peter also believed everything written by Paul and applied it in his preaching and teaching. The epistles of Peter provide insight into his theology.

Peter's epistles were written near the end of Peter's life.

So you also agree that, at least in Acts 2, Peter would still have taught the "Men of Israel", that law keeping was still required from them, even after they "repent and be baptized" (Acts 2:38) correct?

No, I don't believe that would have been the case, since that would nullify the Gospel message of justification by grace through faith apart from the works of the Law.

Indeed here is what Peter said in Acts 15:
7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the Gospel, and believe.
8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;
9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
[Note: this is a reference to the yoke of bondage of the Law of Moses]
11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

So because you are starting off with the axiom that "there is only one gospel, that is the message of justification by grace through faith apart from the works of the Law." you have to also believe that Peter would not have taught, in Acts 2, that the Men of Israel needed to follow the Law?

This is despite you also realizing what Peter said in Acts 10 about the law regarding eating unclean animals and associating with gentiles?

Yep, your favorite "9 verses of Colossians 2" is what you would regard as the True Gospel. ;)

There is nothing transitional about the Gospel which was preached by Peter. Kindly present your *version* of the Gospel is you cannot see that.
ACTS is transitional, so its daft to pick the beginning of a transitional book of 28 chapters and call that the plan of salvation ( 2.38 ) literally insane .

Acts 2.38 is not a plan of salvation for today .. It was what Israel had to do because they crucified Their messiah. Nothing in Acts 2 is aimed at anyone but Israel and proselytes, Their children and all those Jews afar off ect ( Jews )( Acts 2 .11 ,19 )

Yes Acts 15 ..Which is over 10 years after Acts 2 and after Paul's conversion and after Cornelius ( Gentiles granted repentence, )transitions abounding.

Yes the Gospel continues to be misunderstood..by those who take Paul's Gospel and read that back into scripture prior to the revelation given to Paul by Jesus.

This is not the plan of salvation for anyone today.
38¶Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
This is a" another gospel ' if taught today as the plan of salvation. Yes I know it gets twisted to fit the gospel of grace , literally greek a fied to death to make it fit , as if as it reads in English cannot possibly say what it means .

So what? The Gospel message did not transition.
