So water baptism is necessary for forgiveness of sins then today?
Or could it be that acts 2.38 is not a prescription for how a person receives the Holy Spirit ? Given the fact we don't see this pattern apart this verse and to Israel.
I don't pick and choose which scriptures I will believe or which scriptures I believe are valid. As ALL scripture is God breathed I need to know it if is not valid, not if it is valid.

also note....show me any teaching prior to the 1960's that even questioned the requirement of baptism ......???

So far I have not found any .
Christians are to look to God's teachings, not man's teaching. If baptism is offered to anyone in scripture, it is accepted, not rejected. There are instances in scripture of souls being saved without baptism, as the man on the cross was saved.

I believe Baptism is a spiritual marker for a believer but not for the forgiveness of sins.

Its a symbolic act of the death and resurrection of Jesus.

The problem we have today is that it's made such a big issue.
The big issue being "Stand up and give a big testimony"
A big issue "The grilling of ones lifestyle"

The above and other things.

It breaks my heart that believers don't want to get baptized because of things like not wanting to give some big testimony in front of many people or are worried that they we be rejected because they have to be sinless or feel they need to before they get baptized.

My son got baptised but was worried about being baptized because his testimony was not spectacular.

When he told me this I just said "No testimony needed just say you are being baptized because you believe in Jesus and want to be like him"

Two weeks later I baptised him in our church.

My nephew sought me out about baptism, felt he was not worthy to be so as he still sinned.

I said Jesus died for you as a sinner go get baptised.

In Romans Paul says,

If we confess with our mouths the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart the God has raised him from the dead you will be saved.
For with heart one believes unto righteousness and with the confession is made unto salvation.

This is very important, the death and resurrection.

I had to refuse baptism to a person because they could not confess the above.

Every person I have baptised I ask them have you done this.

My opinion is that anyone who has done should be baptised straight away.

As ALL scripture is God breathed
Speaking of God-breathed, here is the disciples receiving the Holy Spirit well before Acts 2:38:

John 20:22
New King James Version

22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

Kind of interesting that Yeshua being the Second Person of the Trinity is able to Breathe the Third Person of the Trinity onto His Disciples.

You don't know that the thief on the cross was not baptized...do you?...so why introduce a unknown as a known?

God may grant special dispensation as He wishes and when He wishes.
Not proof of anything.
But, go ahead list me one?

So God illustrated another way to receive the HS....so?...and your point is?

Why not ,still believe the bible , but rightly divide it ?

We know that God told us to repent, but did God tell us that if we don’t repent, we will not be forgiven?

Psalms 51: 17 The sacrifices of god are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

God hears our repentance, but is it a requirement?
That would depend on who you are talking about. If you are talking about a Christian or believer, then repentance of one's sins would be one of the steps necessary for forgiveness. The other would be to confess said sins with your mouth. The third is to have faith or trust in God to fulfill his word when he said, if you confess your sins, he is faithful and just to forgive you your sins, and to cleanse you of all unrighteousness.
As for the unbelievers, they do not need to repent of their sins to receive forgiveness, but of their doubt and unbelief.
Unbelievers receive forgiveness of their sins when they believe and receive Jesus as their lord and savior, by confessing him with their mouth or acting on said belief, according to Romans 10: 8- 10.
As I said earlier, repentance of one's sins is reserved for the Christian and not the unbeliever.
This is a good subject to discuss.

The idea that we must confess verbally is a new idea to me, I question that requirement. If God required it of all people, then all people would have that opportunity to verbally confess to other Christians, and there are humans that live in places that it is not possible. I am one. I live in a facility with no Christians around me, I'm wheelchair bound. I have outlived my friends.

The new testament does not list all sins Christ forgives us for, but the old testament lists every sin as Christ fulfilled the forgiveness offered. One group of sins are the sins we are not aware of. Christians cover these sins when they confess repentance of all sin, stating they turn from all sin and want to be sin free. You could not confess a sin you are not aware of.

What a novel idea that man has that authority....would you share reasoning for that thought?

2 Timothy 2:15

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
