What happens when God claims to love someone, and that someone goes after other gods in his old age before he dies?
If that someone you are referring to claims to be "Born Again" and also goes after other Gods, then, yes, they are a "Heretic".

Insufficient information.

EVERYBODY'S a "heretic" according to somebody else's "theology".
What happens if this person I am referring to, who claims to be "Born Again", is actually a "Heretic according to God?

I'm not a heretic, even if I put forth heresy.

It's not about who claims to be born again. It's about who God loves. 😉

is actually a “Heretic”?
Matthew 7:22-23 CSB - "On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, didn't we prophesy in your name, drive out demons in your name, and do many miracles in your name? ' "Then I will announce to them, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you lawbreakers!"

Heresy just means something contrary to the Bible. The thing is that there are many Biblically viable doctrines that aren’t necessarily true. Part of the reason for vastly different Biblical interpretation is not only because the Bible says many different things, but rather because we speculate as to why those things are said.

Some common examples are whether or not water baptism is required and why, pre/post-trib rapture, the Trinity, and many many more. Heresy can be difficult to define in my opinion.

Like someone said, from someone’s perspective everyone is a heretic.

God will only judge someone a "Heretic" He deems a "Heretic", God does not judge based on our excuses.
